Augustana has quietly turned around their season with some nice wins.  Was looking really bleak early in CCIW season after 49-7 loss to Wheaton, but they've played much more solidly since.

Elmhurst wins 41-24. Tale of two halves. Whatever Lester said to the team at the half proved to work.  Great win for Coach Swider and the gang.  Elmhurst now has a chance for a co-champ for the first time since 1980 (IWU).

Not to be snide, and I have no dog in the fight as an outsider, but it seems as though Wheaton's ranking was definitely not a joke!

Well as USee and a few other Wheaton posters have pointed out, Wheaton is 2 or 3 plays away from a 9-0 season right now.  Albion scored on 4th and goal from Wheaton 27 yard line with under 90 seconds left in game.  Elmhurst had a pick 6 for a TD and 2 other critical 4th down conversions in a 35-30 win over Wheaton.

Granted Wheaton didn't execute on those 2-3 plays, so they are where they are - with 2 losses.  They could have packed it in, but they have kept fighting.

Heck yeah! Chance for at least a share of the title next week at the Horst! I'm painting my face now!

Lot of losses from ranked teams today.  #'s 7, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 25 all go down.  It will be interesting to see where NCC, Wheaton and EC end up this week as I'm willing to bet that all will be in the top #25.

I watched most of the Wheaton @ NCC game.  Wheaton's gameplan and, most importantly, execution were outstanding.  Just a really impressive performance by the Thunder.  They looked like a talented, well coached, and balanced football team.

Agree with Wheaton's ranking.  Whether it was the intent of the voters or whether they were going more on past success, I think most people knowledgeable about the CCIW believe that Wheaton is a better team than Elmhurst this season.  I think if they played 10 times, Wheaton wins 8 or 9 of them.  Sometimes upsets happen, and that's what I would call Elmhurst beating Wheaton this season.  That being said, I give EC credit as they have managed to go 8-1 to this point and will be in the playoffs if they win next week.  That's certainly not an easy thing to do playing in the CCIW.

If you would have told me with 5 minutes left in the Wheaton game that IWU would finish 3-4 in the CCIW, __________________.

Mr. Ypsi

It's going to be a fun week on the boards as Mugsy, USee, etc., are forced to hold their noses and root for the Weenies! 8-)

Mugsy,

They have certainly played better than they did at the start of the season and will finish, at worst, .500, which I didn't think was possible based on their performance in the first few games.  That being said, the teams they had beaten until this week have a combined record of 10-26, so not too much to get excited about there.  Yes, they beat an IWU team this week that is now 6-3, but we all know that they are a much different team without Galik.  If they somehow beat NCC next week (which I don't think anyone see's happening), then I will give them the credit due and may even be looking forward to next season.  If the lose and get smoked in the process, it will indicate that there is still much work to do before Augie is even a consideration in the CCIW race.

Congrats to you and all the Wheaton fans on the board on their big win vs. NCC.  I watched most of the game online and they were extremely impressive.

If Elmhurst, NCC, and Wheaton all win next week, NCC wins the AQ by virtue of the tiebreaker, which is point differential. (Elmhurst is -29, Wheaton is +9 and NCC is +25). Wheaton's only chance is IWU beating Elmhurst which would give the Thunder the edge vs HTH.

Great performance by Jordan Roberts today and the Wheaton defense came to play. A dominating win by Wheaton.
I just got home from the game and my feet are frozen. Congrats to Wheaton for winning the Bell today, their execution on both their o-line and d-line kept us on our heels most of the day. We certainly didn't help our cause with 5 lost fumbles (out of 7 overall).  Wheaton missed an 18 yard field goal ,the ball was at the one yard line and it was 4th down and i think they could have punched it in for a touchdown. Why go for the field goal? Why not try and get the points to win the tiebreaker?
Once again congrats to the Thunder.

At the time, Wheaton was trying to secure the win, not the tie-breaker.  The FG would have made it a 3 score game and would have locked up a big win.  (There was still enough time for NCC to score twice if I recall.)

The Titans are still capable of winning in Elmhurst next Saturday.
