As for player of the year and all conference honors, there are going to be some tough decisions.

I could see a co-POY on offense with Scottie Williams and Jordan Roberts. Could also be Mark Hiben, it really depends on who Swider nominates but both are worthy.

Defensively, you have to look at a guy like Josh Mitchell or Joey Michals. Those guys have been pretty consistent all year. I can't think of any other super standouts on defense.

Quote from: Mugsy on November 04, 2012, 06:03:20 PMIt is really weird that there isn't a defensive player who stands out.

The best defensive player I've seen this season is LB Erik Westerberg of Augustana.

Yeah, I was looking at his stats when trying to discern who are the stand-out defensive players.  He has the stats.  I haven't seen him play so I can't say beyond that.

I got very, very tired of saying his name while doing the Augie @ NPU webcast. It seemed like there were three or four Augie players out there wearing #41.

Mr. Y is a naughty boy.  Stuck my 'I Voted' sticker on my dog's forehead; walked to my neighbor's house.  He's a conservative Republican; I'm a liberal Democrat; (shucks ::)) he had a good laugh.

Tried to ramp up his paranoia, but (probably fortunately) he is a very good neighbor and friend.

(Besides, he is twice my size!  AND 20 years younger! 8-))

Does that surprise anyone? :)

Is Wheaton capable of beating NCC?  Absolutely, but it will take Wheaton cashing in on NCC mistakes (at least 2 or 3 turnovers) and the Wheaton defense playing their best game in several years.

In my heart I'm rooting all the way for Wheaton and I put a lot of faith in the staff and players putting together a solid scheme and executing on it.  At this point in the week my head tells me NCC over Wheaton 42-17.

Agreed, Wheaton is capable of beating NCC. Wheaton is a good team, with very good skilled athletes.  But Wheaton has to do what no other team has done - force turnovers and protect the ball.

The stats are interesting. What they don't account for is the large margins that NCC has had over Elmhurst, IWU, and Millikin. In those games, NCC played mostly 2s and 3s in the fourth quarter in those games. So, the offensive stats especially would be more gaudy. Roberts has earned a lot of praise for his play this season. Stanek has quietly had a very good season, after the game 1 disaster. His stats compare well against the passing numbers that Wheaton has put up.

Catching up late on the w/e's results... congrats to the Wheaties on a terrific performance.

... and I wanted to spotlight both of the posts in the quote above -- both were spot-on in calling the path the Wheaties could take to the win.   The Thunder did exactly what was laid out -- forced the turnovers, protected the ball, and played great defense.  Nicely done gents.

I woke up this morning with a nasty ringing in my ear.

Trace ringing in ears is a very common symptom following close proximity to violent clap of Thunder, along with:
1. Loss of trophies
2. Elevated anxiety
3. Depression
4. Loss of appetite
5. Headaches
6. Nausea
7. Trouble sleeping
8. Itchy eyes
9. General irritability

10. Oily discharge
11. Jaundice
12. Loss of feathers

... and #12 here is my nomination for best line of Bell week.

Pat and Keith have 3 CCIW teams getting in.

I have my doubts. We will see.

Taking all of that into consideration, I would have to think that NCC is hopefully in with a win, regardless if the Weenies beat the Blue birds.

I'd rather it not come down to that. Go Jays!

I think they need the AQ or they will most likely get left off the table. If Elmhurst were to lose, I think they would get left off as well. Go Jays!

Loving all the positive Bluejay vibes i am feeling!  Music to my ears - hopefully the 'Jays can keep that sweet music loud and proud and the Langhorst Bell ringing long into the evening this Saturday.
It's a Great Day to be a Jay!

And free Kool-Aid on the house courtesy of L-Ghost at the EC game Saturday  :)

The prospects are looking good for Elmhurst and happy to see Elmhurst in position to dance for the first time.  Though, they need to be sharp Saturday because IWU is always tough no matter how depleted they may be.

Pretty cool stuff here from EC...http://www.elmhurstbluejays.com/news/2012/11/5/FB_1105125648.aspx

From the Head Ball Coach, Tim Lester:

"There's been non-stop conversation about the dangers of concussions from youth football all the way up to the NFL.  We've had players sidelined for games and had student-athletes walk away from the game because of multiple concussions. We wanted to be proactive in our attempt to try and curb concussions during practices.  Unfortunately, there is no sure-fire away to completely eliminate concussions, but if we can help keep our players safer, we're going to do it."

It'll be interesting to see if more teams at all levels take similar steps.  I know Wheaton has had more concussions this year than ever before.

North Central did as well. Using the Guardian looks like a step in the right direction, as well as less hitting during the week.
