NPU @ WC will start in 20 minutes.

It's weird hanging out in the McCully press box while the stadium's been cleared. The press box at Holmgren is 100% aluminum -- can't hang out there when there's lightning strikes!

I think you're quite safe inside the Holmgren press box, because it's a Faraday Cage.  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage and http://youtu.be/GZxgYNnkBd0

Best thing about today was the fact that Wheaton serves Chic-Fil-A in the press box.

Having spent a year at Wheaton long ago ... I would say ... "That figures!"

Congrats to all of the Co-Champs...What a year in the CCIW. Good Luck to all playoff teams.

PLEASE Titan fans, stop mentioning injuries with every post . Everyone has them and nobody really likes to hear the crying. As an alum, I would rather we just worry about the things we can control, and figure out a way to beat just 1 winning team before we start to say how promising a season is.

Have a great selection Sunday and let's see if we can get 3 teams in.

Point taken, but while every team incurs injuries, I can't recall a top team (IWU was ranked #12 in the nation before the Wheaton loss) being THIS decimated by injury since Wheaton in 2009 (who were ranked #3 nationally before disaster struck and finished 1-3).  Depth is an absolute necessity for elite teams, but at some point injuries can overtake anything that depth can reasonably overcome.

ugh...no wonder we get called green weenies

Didn't know that. Thanks, ncc_fan. That's my new fact for the day!

Congrats to the Tri-champs (jaybird79 and all you other Elmhurst posters; newcardfan, ncc fan and colleagues and, of course, all our Wheaton friends including Usee and mugsy).  It would be neat to see all three teams get in.

But I still want to thank and congratulate the 20 NPU seniors for all the hard work and effort that they put in. I assign no blame to them. On the contrary, they are to be admired for sticking it out through thin and thinner. There's just not enough there in terms of team speed for the Vikings to compete in this league. But at least the program is retaining its players ... and the quality of young men in terms of academics and deportment that Scott Pethtel and his coaches have been bringing in continues to impress me.
I second that, Greg.  I know many of the players as students in my classes, and so many of them impress me with their work ethic, discipline, and positive attitudes.

Big thanks, too, to Matt Hassan's family (who live near the Wheaton campus) for having the NPU football team (including players, coaches, significant others of coaches, team managers, parents, and yours truly) over for dinner tonight.

Excellent post GS.  Had a chance to observe the NPU players during the lightening delay and was very impressed with how conducted themselves.  They were respectful of others, stayed focused on the fact they had a game to prepare for, even at 1-8.  Plus they genuinely seemed to enjoyed one another and were having fun - not an easy task while losing.

On the field I didn't see any quitting.  Very admirable.

I had a great time at Langhorst Field today.  Kudos to the Titans on a wonderful 2nd half effort.  They did not make it easy for Elmhurst.

It was a great atmosphere!  The campus was packed.  Elmhurst is hosting a volleyball regional this weekend, too.  I'm very proud of the 'Jays for setting a school record for victories in a season.  I feel good about their chances to play another game this year.

When the season started, I was hoping that Elmhurst could maybe break into the top 3 of the CCIW with a few breaks.  They did catch some breaks but made the most of it and have a decent chance of actually hosting a playoff game next Saturday.

Congrats to Wheaton, North Central, & Elmhurst for the 3-way championship!  The Cardinals get the AQ.  The Bluejays are probably in with a Pool C bid.  I hope the Thunder get one, too.  They are capable of winning 2 or 3 games or more in the D3 playoffs.

Congrats to the three top teams of the CCIW - all have done impressive things throughout the season. I hope all 3 make the playoffs.

I had the opportunity to visit Elmhurst twice this weekend- for volleyball and a little (first half) football. Very nice campus and people.

It will be a shame for this Wheaton team not to make the playoffs being that it is a long shot at best.  I don't think we know exactly where this team really stacks up.  Yes they lost two games but I would love to see the offense and defense play a team like Mount Union to see if we are getting closer and where improvement is needed.

Regardless this team has a lot to be proud of.

Be careful what you ask for ;)
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

On a real note! Congrats to the tri champs and my jays! Great coaching and players! I could not be more proud! The kool aid tastes good!

late to the boards...out celebrating - and the blue KOOL AID is delicious!!!!  To all the TRUE BLUE Elmhurst faithful out there - i am with you!  We did it!  To all the negative neigh-sayers, the boo-hooers, the doubters (you know who you are) - all i have to say is...

IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A JAY!!!!

The Jays will be dancing in November for the first time in school history!

Just got a chance to read Pat's final projected brackets. If that hold true, the Cardinals are the winners of the play-off lottery in round 1. I'd post the link, but my phone won't let me.
