... except in the picking-on-you-people sense. I'm sure that CardinalAlum will agree with me that, when it comes to rivalry gibes, just because it's Wheaton means that it is always easy. ;)

Lol.  With me it only takes saying one word.

The one number that really stands out to me is the Def. Rushing yards allowed per game!   :o
Keeping the CLU offense off the field will be key and this will surely help our cause if these numbers run true to form.  Would have loved to get to the game but I'm pretty sure my kids will appreciate the "extra" $1000 in my pocket a month before Christmas!   ;D

Yep, CLU has given up a lot of yards (hence their ranking on 201), especially on the ground. i think there was a comment on the SCIAC board that in their last game, it was close in the first half as their opponent controlled the TOP stat early by running successfully. Their defensive stats aren't what I would expect from the #8 team, but they played a lot of high scoring games.

CLU had a DT on this week's team of the week with 10 tackles, and 25 in his last two games. That's just sick for a DT. Hopefully, the Cards will be able to neutralize him.

So if the games were played on the Stat sheets, it would be NCC and Coe advancing.

I'm more confident about NCC this weekend as I HAVE to believe they have figured out a way to limit the damage of a very good passing team.

As for Elmhurst, the problem I'm having in getting on their wagon is that I only saw the first half of their game vs. IWU.  Although I think Scottie Williams is fantastic, I didn't see a whole lot of reason to think this is a team that will win playoff games.  Perhaps if I had stayed around for the second half I'd have a different opinion.  Of course, perhaps I would have stayed for the second half if Elmhurst had any seating.  What's up with the tiny stands anyway?  The slice of Kirkland pizza was bigger than the home stands.

As a side note, how many have experienced this perplexing statement when ordering pizza:  "I'll take one slice of cheese and one slice of cheese and sausage".  "Sorry we only have cheese or sausage".

79jaybird

Elmhurst will be able to move the ball on Coe.  Offensively, I think Williams and Co. can handle it.  It's on the defensive side of the ball I would be worried about.  Elmhurst gives up just as much as they put up.  That formula won't work in the playoffs.

There is a party being planned in downtown Naperville(final destination not determined as of yet) for all who want to watch the game and have some fun. We are heading out on Friday, hoping to see a great play-off game.
Any information on this get together will be appreciated!  I am trying to find flights out to the game but if that doesn't work out, I'd love to watch with other Cardinal Fans!
Thank you
The party is at Bar Louie. Contact mary reynolds in the alumni office if you want to  attend.

Chiming in from the SCIAC board regarding the CLU/NCC game.  *I will put a disclaimer here that I know very little about NCC*

Cal Lu is a very explosive offensive team that has had a lot of big plays this year.  Eric Rodgers is about as good as it gets in D3 for receivers.  That being said, there are plenty of others that can hurt you.  The freshman RB is small and quick as hell and finished with over 1,000 yards in 9 games.  The QB that is playing now was the backup at the start of the year and after the starter went down, he stepped in and even with the original starter healthy he is still in there.  He has been very solid as the starter.

The defense has been beat up the past few weeks.  It seems like Cal Lu is playing a very intense game of "bend, don't break" and so far they have not broke.  I believe one of their top DL guys will be back this weekend (what they were saying on the broadcast last week).  There are a lot of new faces on D and who knows what will happen.  The last 2 weeks they have played teams with RB's that went over 1,000 yards in 9 games so that could be a slight bit misleading, or it could be a glimpse into what could happen this weekend.

Overall I think this game is a 50/50 matchup.  Yes, they have 1 common opponent but I don't really read into that stuff too much.  Obviously NCC is a very solid team and have been for years and Cal Lu is still a little bit of an "up-and-comer" but if anyone questions how good Cal Lu is, just ask the Linfield guys.  Those 2 teams have been battling for the past few years and there is no denying the closeness of a few games.  Cal Lu went to PLU to open up the year and beat them which was a huge win for them, or they would be on the road for the 1st round.

The biggest advantage (IMO) is that CLU is at home and NCC has to travel.  Although it is a fairly simple travel plan from Chicago to LAX, these are still 20 year olds who do not travel like this during the season.  The routine for CLU is the same but who knows, that might not matter at all.

My prediction-  I think this will be a very physical game that turns into a shootout.  I would not be the least bit surprised if either team won.

NCC fans....we're looking to forward to hosting you on Saturday and showing off our beautiful weather and fantastic new athletic complex. Looks like the forecast is calling for rain but I hope they're wrong. This is our first home playoff game since 1979 as well as our first playoff game against a team other than Linfield since 1979 (0-4 since '79).

It's no secret that our defense has been decimated by injuries and I don't see us winning a 17-14 game. Eric Rogers is the best football player in the 50-year history of the football program and we look forward to showing him off to the country.

Looking forward to Saturday,
