USee...on a linear level for you then.

I KNOW LINFIELD can beat NCC at home.
The WILDCATS are pushing their luck with C-LU.
Had to block a field goal in the waning seconds to beat them last year in the playoffs and a field goal with 6 seconds left to win in their house this year
.
NCC lost to a team that will not even schedule LINFIELD any more: Redlands.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc, my previous post.

Yes...in 2011!.  Last I checked, there was a game played between the two schools in 2012 and it was quite lopsided one way!

The top defense in Cal Lu's league is Redlands and NCC put 42 pts on them. That doesn't bode well.

Not sure I understand the logic with this?  Cal Lu put 45 on them so what would it matter that NCC put 42 on them?  I'm not trying to be a donkey here but I find it interesting that some feel that NCC is going to go on the road and win this game with ease.  Maybe I am wrong and it will happen, but it seems like nobody is giving CLU a shot in hell to win this game.

Better students, more retention, more seniors than I don't know when and much more discipline on the field.  Lack of talent, yes, bad coaching no.  I agree with your conclusion, NPU is doomed if they are now firing coaches.  I can't imagine who wants that job.  I am sure someone will take it but that's disappointing to see them fire Pethtel.

I don't understand why you take exception, USee. You said in your initial post that NPU had made "huge strides." Huge strides in what way? Since this is a football forum, after all, it's entirely reasonable to think that you were talking about what happened on the field rather than off the field. And, as I said in my reply to you, if you were talking about off-the-field stuff when you said "huge strides", then I don't have a problem with that. In fact, as should be apparent by now, I agree with you.

Onfield success starts with off filed success. They are inextricably linked.  Winning always comes last.  NPU made huge strides under Scott Pethtel.  The program is in trouble now.  If a candidate thinks the university will fire you for doing things the right way, no one worth a hoot will go near the place.

Ah yes I wasn't clear.  I was saying if the top defense in the league gave up 42 pts to NCC, what chance does CLUB have of slowing the Cards? Likewise, Redlands could only manage 16 pts against NCC when they scored more than 2x that vs CLu.

Wait, you don't even know Redlands played us this year and lost 42-16? It was 42- 7 starting the fourth quarter, and with our bench emptied they managed to make it look a little more interesting. So therefore -- what now?

I would disagree that nobody is giving CLU a shot.  CLU seems to have an offense that will give us all we can handle.  This will come down to how well CLU is able to play defense against the Cards.  I'm expecting a great game.   Good luck.

Cardinal alum. I disagree. Cal Lu gives up about what NCC averages so we know Cal Lu won't play defense.  What matters is if NCC can slow down the Cal Lu passing attack.  If this is a shoot out Cal Lu will likely win.  IF NCC can slow the CLu attack and not turn the ball over, they can win in California.  It won't easy either way but defense win in the playoffs and the data seems to give NCC an edge in this game.

Have to agree with CardinalAlum here.  I think there is a healthy respect for CLU's offense and some apprehension over how the 'Birds will do against a strong aerial attack.

North Central has had mixed success in the playoffs against teams outside of the Little Sisters of the Poor conferences.  I do not consider the SCIAC to be part of that crowd.  This will be a good test to see if the Cards can take a step forward and move from frequently-making-the-playoffs-and-sometimes-winning to frequently-making-and-progressing-in-the-playoffs.

I think it will come down to whether the Cards can (1) stop the CLU passing game and (2) not turn the ball over on offense.  But that of course is just speculation -- we'll see what ultimately drives the result once they settle things on the field.

Good luck to both teams and may both emerge from the game as healthy as they go into it.

Again, though, I have to point out that the numbers were down at NPU this year in terms of incoming freshmen. That counts for a lot, since football's supposed to bring male bodies onto the campus and NPU is a tuition-driven school.

It stinks that this has to be a part of the calculation of what constitutes off-field success, but it is. No getting around it.

"Mixed success" indeed!  Here's NCC's playoff record:
NATHC   1-0
PAC       1-0
MWC      1-0
IIAC       1-0
HCAC     1-1
OAC       1-2
NCAC     0-1
WIAC     0-2

Got ya, maybe I read into a little too much.  I think this is one of the most intriguing games to open up the playoffs.  Thank god there is no BCS in D-III.  Safe travels to all and enjoy the game.

Fully aware of what happened in 2012.
Fully aware NCC has two losses this season.

Where I have trouble is keeping the 57 consecutive winning seasons straight.

I reiterate. I'd rather beat NCC than C-LU again.
