Wow, jaybird and Elmhurst fans, Lester leaves.  I guess that is not so surprising being that he has played and coached at DI in between DII (St. Joseph) and DIII (Elmhurst and NCC).  However, it is surprising as I thought he relocated to the Chicago area because of his wife and her family being there.  Also, the article/announcement did not mention which DI school he accepted the assistant's position at.  Does anyone know as yet?

I hope Elmhurst can continue on with the momentum they had in the program this year.

oldnuthin indicated it was Syracuse.  I can neither confirm nor deny.

Looks like OC at Syracuse.  I'd say that's a fairly big-time job.  Congrats to Lester.

Coordinator at a BCS school is a big jump. Position coach is more likely.

There is a good chance you're right.  I'm not 100% on the OC part.

I'm sure that was a great way to get her to move here ;D ;D  Can't blame him for taking the position before the window of opportunity closed, however. Good Luck to him!

And now the obvious question - which I would assume NO ONE can currently answer:

Will this past season turn out to be a 'one-hit wonder' for the Jays, or can they bring in someone who can keep the magic going?

**Mr Ypsi- Referring to is this a one year wonder?  I said the same thing shortly after EC's loss to St. Thomas.  I think Elmhurst's current players are going to have to step it up and determine "from within their hearts", where this program advances to.  Lester brought guts, a daring enthusiasm (see the Coe game 4th quarter), and some confidence, etc. that Elmhurst had previously never seen.

I hope Elmhurst doesn't just go on the spur of the moment and hire somebody "just because".  Hopefully they give the search ample time and interview a variety of coach's perspectives.  I think the foundation for an annual 6-7+ team has been solidified.  Now we need somebody to take the managerial seat and continue to lead this program in the right direction.

You cannot blame a guy for taking a job at a Division 1 program. I think it is great for Coach Lester and I am sure all the Alumni can understand that opportunity.

As far as the next coach, I would really like to see them promote from within. The current DC is also the recruiting coordinator. He was the OC under the Journell era and has a ton of experience on both sides of the ball. He has so much day to day contact with all the recruits. He is not only over qualified but a high quality individual as I have been able to get to know him over the years and coached with him on Coach Journell's staff. This I think would also keep the continuity of the current team as well as continue its growth into the future. He gets my vote but I guess we will see what happens.

From footballscoop.com
Syracuse: Sources tell us Elmhurst (D-III - IL) head coach Tim Lester will join the Syracuse staff as quarterbacks coach.

the guy that runs this site has a brother that runs a competing site that says he has the OC job. This one makes a little more sense to me in correlation to Pat's post.

I know Lester is very close with new Syracuse HC Scott Shafer via WMU.  Typically a jump to a position coach would seem to fit more but Syracuse hasn't named (or at least announced) a new OC so it would be a little odd to hire a QB coach first. I think it's possible he's getting the OC job.

Pat Coleman

Kudos to him if he does. That would be a nice jump.

It appears the site reporting QB coach is correct.  Assistant from Arkansas to be named OC.  Lester QB coach.  Makes sense.

So the Bears hire Trestman after all, hmmmmmm. Still, out of the three finalists, think he will be a good choice (one must always have hope here in Chicago) :D

Lester's departure is definitely a blow to the Elmhurst program. The Daily Herald reported this morning that he was hired as the QB coach. I'm sure Elmhurst is aware of Ponx's interviewing blunder. Do you think they would consider him after this ethics mistake? Just asking and opening that topic up for discussion. Interesting.....................................
