Trust me, these Jays relish the role of little brother - overlooked and undervalued is exactly where these Jays gain their motivation.  2012 was all about playing with a chip on their shoulder and with a lunch bucket attitude - that mentality has carried over, and strengthened from 2012 to 2013.

Good luck with that. I guess I am going with the teams that have proven underclassmen returning vs the "chip on the shoulder" new starters at powerful Langhorst field. New coach + new starters + same attitude = wait and see (i.e 5th place). I am not convinced this isn't a Carthage 2004 repeat.

NCC is always legit, Wheaton i am sure will be great (they were good in 2012...not good enough at Langhorst  ), and IWU should be right there as well...but don't write off the Jays.  This is a program being built at Langhorst, not simply a collection of individuals.  Should be another fun season in the CCIW.

*Slow down there tiger.  I drank the kool-aid that you must have purchased for 10 yrs, and now it is resurfacing. :)
We were lucky to beat Augie, Wheaton, and were devoured by NC.  Elmhurst thus far, has had 1 good year with many changes occurring post-season.  For anybody other than EC,  yes, I think it is legit to put Elmhurst int he middle, in a pre-season poll.  Why wouldn't they?  On paper, and guys who have at least some gameday experience, (and meaningful games not mop up duties) NC, IWU, and WC have more returning than EC.

I think we will get a very good idea of what kind of team EC will have after 2 weeks of the CCIW slate.

Usee, you have complimented my original point in that I see Elmhurst's chapter being a carbon copy of Carthage a few years back.  However, I don't think Elmhurst will fall completely off the charts like Carthage did once Dante & Co. graduated.   But I don't think Elmhurst will equate last year's success.  Hopefully they prove me wrong?

...says the guy who had the Jays losing four games last year (including Trine)...they lost one.  Let's keep that in perspective.

"Lucky to beat Augie and Wheaton"...again with this?  If you want to rip the Jays for winning close games at least be fair - EC also had the National Runner-Up down 2 touchdowns and lost by one score on the Tommies home field in the second round of the National Playoffs.  You conveniently leave that part out of your analysis.

Based on who has what coming back and my assessment of the state of the programs, here is my early prediction for order of finish for the CCIW next year:

1-North Central: Key returners (Dierking-db, Fick-DL, Tripp-DL, Douglas-DB/Werkheiser-OL, Whalen-OL, O'kane-WR, Sorenson-WR, Stanek-QB); key losses: (Mitchell-db, Michals-LB, Kukuc-RB, Tassio-RB, Rasch-K)
2-Wheaton: key returners (Dykstra-DT, Anderson-LB/Hiben-WR,Clark-OL, Roberts-QB, Swider-KR,Cote-P); key losses: (Cook-DB, Dandsdill-LB, Vanheest-LB, McReynolds-DB/Cook-WR, Peterson-OL, Davis-OC)
3-IWU: Key returners (Gallik-QB, Stinde-RB, Garvey-WR, Mulcahy-OL/Bolden-DB, McGinnis-DB, Klein-LB); Key losses: (Carroll-TE, Mussleman-WR, Cunningham-DL)
4-Augustana: Key returners (Westerberg-POY/LB, McIntyre-DL/Chandler-RB, Snow-WR); Key losses: (Kautz-OL, Draminski-LB)
5-Elmhurst: Key returners (Gabrys-OL); key losses (everybody else)
6-Millikin Key returners: (Whitaker-OL); Key losses (Tobey-WR, Holmes-QB, Moore-LB)
7-Carthage Key losses (Merucci-DL, Mecozzi-LB)
8-NPUkey losses: (Pethel-HC)

IMHO:  I believe the coaches poll will have Wheaton as #1 with either NCC or IWU #2.   I have Wheaton #1 a top five team in the nation regardless of the two coaches  with IWU #2 if Galik is healthy.   If not this year then when.  This is Wheatons year.  NCC has no compatible replacements at rb for the two losses.  Matt Randolph has shown no inkling that he will be the player he was in hs one of the best open field runners.  Except against the Wheaton North defense headed by a middle lb named  Mike Swider.  http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-10-07/sports/ct-spt-1008-prep-foot-naper-cent-wheaton-north-20111007_1_wheaton-north-johnny-daniels-dupage-valley
I really thought that unless Randolph got faster he would not be the open field runner he was.  Also I believe the Thunder as of right now had the best overall talent on the JV team.  There were some really good players on that squad.  Just my opinion but I really cannot see the coaches poll having anything but Wheaton as #1 in the CCIW.

I think you need to change your meds again. Zero chance Wheaton is picked as #1. NCC has the most talent returning by a long margin. I think Wheaton and IWU are a toss up for #2/#3. It really depends on IWU's ability to replace their DLine and how healthy Stinde and Gallik are at the start of the season. If all those pieces come together, I can see the Titans as a strong #2 and a challenger for the conference title, especially since they host both NCC and Wheaton this fall.

Go Thunder,

Thanks for your support. I am glad you took my joke about the meds in the appropriate context. I am sorry if it came across wrong. It's nice to hear that my posts, though moronic in nature, are defended by the informed Thunder nation.

Forgive me if I made some stupid predictions by examining what talent every team has returning and making some educated guesses in March as to what might happen in December. I apologize for looking at each team's website to examine their roster, looking over stats of injured players, studying late season results to see who improved, and contemplating coaching changes and their effect on the CCIW rankings. I defer to your knowledge of each team's JV team and their HS resumes as to what might occur on the gridiron this fall. Long live the Thunder, #1 in our hearts, if not on the field.

Thanks for keeping me honest.

In March, all you can really go by is returning players, coach's resume and past patterns,  and hunches.  L-Ghost, I know what I said back in August and yes, Elmhurst proved me wrong with my hypothesis. Glad to see that happened. Perhaps it will happen again this year? We shall see. But on paper, it is hard to think Elmhurst is going to be able to repeat based on all the changes and new faces, etc.

Bluejays vs. Bluejays, Thunder vs. Crusaders...offseason mayhem!!  Good for a laugh, though.  I love how witty the Wheaton posters are.  My analysis is that the Jays need to able to trash on each other's ideas while making the other posters laugh at the same time.  If they can accomplish this feat, they should have a decent shot at the top 3 for the CCIW D3 Message Board Championship (the Coleman Cup).  ;) :D ;D

Can't say I'm sorry to see Joe Davis leave this league. I understand that the natural order of the universe seems to dictate a Wheaton pounding of NPU every year on the gridiron, and I can handle that. But the presence of Joe Davis on the Wheaton coaching staff put a sour taste in the mouths of lots of NPU folks, and I'd rather have the NPU/WC rivalry be devoid of personal animosity.
