EC wins, 35-9 over Loras.  Congrats to Elmhurst on the opening win of the football season.

Had to deal with some technical difficulties at Langhorst last night, but here is the archived version of last night's season opener: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc8VYuS98Hk&list=PLDFA936FECBE865CD

Something special about the start of the season - all the familiar sights and sounds - and a really fun atmosphere on campus Thursday night.  New season, new coach, new impact players, new uniforms (very cool, by the way)...same effort and attitude - the Jays' identity and the philosophy of the program remains firmly in place.

Solid showing by the Jays - had to get the gears warmed up a bit in the first 2 quarters, but the defending CCIW co-champs had the Blue Collar engine rolling in the second half.  Big congrats to Joe Adam, notching his first D3 win as a Head Coach.

It's a Great Day to be a Jay!

Congratulations to Coach Adam ( a great family man who cares) on his first victory as a HC at Elmhurst. Hope it is the first of many to come.

I had a feeling both teams (and most openers this week) would have some bumps in the road, until they met their stride.  While Loras is no powerhouse, it is nice to see Elmhurst be able to hold the Duhawks to under 10 points.  Keeping a team to 10 points or less, usually gives you a positive end result.

Congrats to EC on starting out the season with a W.
Not to discount the victory, but the final score was honestly about what I expected against a team that went 2-8 last year, including 1-6 in the IIAC.
Can't imagine EC fans were too worried prior to kickoff.

North Park's website lists tomorrow's game versus Hope as a 6pm kickoff.  The Chicago Tribune reports the game starts at 1pm.  I presume the crappy Trib sports section is wrong.
Once a metalhead, always a metalhead.  Matthew 5:13.

And one- My thoughts exactly. Nice for Adam to get the luster of his first W and the team to get a smile in week 1, however you have to look at the team compared to the league/nation.  Loras would be a lower 1/3 team of the CCIW.  Certainly a nice win for Elmhurst, but this is a team Elmhurst should have beat handily.   If it was closer, then I would be worried.

One game at a time as always.  Hope EC can clean up the turnovers for the road trip next week.

Both NPU and Hope show it as a 6:00 game.

The Trib is notoriously error prone when it comes to the reporting of start times for many different sports over both the high school and college level. During the HS basketball season I would say they are wrong about 25% of the time with regard to game starting times. Worse yet, they list the game being at the home of the actual visiting team about 10% of the time.
As you've heard a thousand times, you can't believe everything you read;D

At least the Trib got the day correct.

Well, the gates of Holmgren will be locked until the game staff starts showing up around 4 pm, but if you get there at 1 pm and you want to sneak in over the fence, I won't tell anyone. ;)

Greg, you might get Rich-rolled if you show up early.

If by "Rich-rolled" you mean Rich enrolling anyone who breaks into Holmgren into helping him pick up the garbage in the stands from the last event, then, by all means, let's let Mark get Rich-rolled.

Nice article in the Herald  this morning regarding the Big Blue. I trust that the young athleticism on D translates to wins.

I read thru the last few pages to try to clarify this, but was unable to find what I was looking for... is Hiben hurt? or did Hiben transfer out of the school? or is there some other explanation for why he is not on the roster?

USee

Hiben is still in school and with the team. He is not practicing and will not play this year from what I understand.
