The current Elmhurst performance/team is about what I anticipated also.  4th or 5th place team in the middle of the pack.  They don't yet have the depth to consistently "rebound" from key graduation losses etc.   I thought they were going to be able to beat Trine

North Central's Spencer Stanek and John Focosi are the CCIW offensive and defensive players of the week.

Saturday night presents kind of an unexpected challenge for the Jays coming off just their second non-con loss in a decade.

U of Chicago is 2-0 after blanking Beloit north of the cheese curtain and taking down last year's 10-0 Concordia in River Forest.

Last time the Jays got off the bus in Hyde Park in 2011, the Maroons found a way to win.  These UofC kids are playing with some confidence and seem to have their ground game rolling (450 yards in 2 games) - i am sure they will be charged at Stagg Field on Saturday night.

This will serve as a big mental test for EC as they hope to shake off a disappointing performance in Angola and look ahead to the bye week before the Cards come to town.  How these young Jays approach this Saturday night will go a long way in setting the tone for the conference grind that lies ahead.
It's a Great Day to be a Jay!

That one made me laugh out loud. Good stuff.

Typical NCC guy, leaves off the other POW, Sam Cote. Kicker for Wheaton, current owner of the Bell, earned special teams honors for 9 PAT's and a 45 yd FG.

Congrats to all the POY honors regardless of which school.

The bye week before NC is going to be tough for Elmhurst. IMO, I would much rather get a game in win or lose, so you stay in shape before playing the juggernaut expected to be 1 or 2 in the conference.

Elmhurst needs a solid game all around to get their stride back.  Otherwise they could be looking at an 0-2 whole because @Augie for their HC is no joy trip either.

Hey all,
Thought I could go a little off topic in the middle of the week.  Just wanted to post a quick update on Mrs. matblake and her rehab after back surgery.  While still using a walker, she is able to now walk about 20 feet or so before hitting the exhaustion barrier.  She's able to get in and out of bed herself with assistance (someone stands near her) as opposed to having to use the Hoyer lift.  Her incisions have all now completely closed.  While not definite, we're shooting for about 2 more weeks of rehab before she returns home.  Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers.  And have no fear, I continue to lurk.  Once she returns home, I'll have a little more time to post.

That is great news Matt. Continued success on the rehab.

I didn't know they were giving away a goat as a consolation prize to the loser of the Bell game.  ;D

Matt I have been praying for you and your wife.  Hope to see you both at a game again in the future.  Jasmine is saving up some of her special pain reliving licks for your wife. :D

One last post at the end of my lunch.  I have been watching Luther and we will see a much better team than we saw Last year.  The new coach runs an option style offense an they looked pretty good at it last week against St Olaf. The coach comes from a family of option coaches.  The pitch read option was extremely fast to the sideline and will punish over aggressive defenses.  So I believe it is a perfect game for Wheaton to evaluate and fix problems such as over pursuit against the run.
