OK, now I'm going to say that you definitely need to footnote your emoticons!

(Just think of the inherent possibilities you would have for driving people crazy.)

He's pretty much got that down anyway.  ;)

IWU hasn't won in Wheaton in 14 years but I don't think anyone was thi king about that last year when IWU was an ACL in the last minute away from winning.

Time to put the emoticons and footnotes away and play the game.  The only thing about past history that matters much is in the minds of the senior players.  I'm sure that will be some influence on the mind-set of some of the Titan players tomorrow.  They want to set things right after the 6-0 start, 0-4 finish last year.

Looks pretty much like weather will not be much of a factor, perhaps some wind.  Sunny and about 55 at kick-off.

Let's hope home field holds and the 24-21 IWU win comes to pass.

No matter who wins, ( I think this game is a toss-up) North Central could have two rough weeks ahead of them. The winner will be pumped to go in for the kill, the loser will be fighting for a play-off spot.

"We like to think our season was interrupted last year at the Wheaton game," said Eash. "We would like to say this year our season is really going to take off with the Wheaton game."

Much has been said about the returning seniors at IWU (32 for the Titans) and their motivation for this particular game highlighted by QB RG1:

"Even while guiding Illinois Wesleyan to a 6-0 start this season, the senior quarterback had Oct. 26 circled on the calendar in his head.
"It's definitely been a long wait," said Gallik. "We have a lot of unfinished business."

But I think Coach Eash really captured it when he said this:

"I don't want to forget (the Wheaton game a year ago)," said IWU coach Norm Eash. "Last year's game doesn't have any bearing on this year's game and what the outcome is. But we played really well for 3½ quarters and they shouldn't forget that.

"We basically have the same team coming back and they have a majority of their team coming back. From a confidence level our kids need to understand that."

Wheaton has 28 seniors from the only CCIW team to beat NCC and IWU in the same year since 2005 and a team that lost a CCIW game in each of the last two seasons (@Elmhurst in 2012 and @IWU in 2011) that kept them from the playoffs. Wheaton seniors are well aware of the losing streak in Bloomington just as they were aware of their enormous underdog status last year going into their game @NCC. This has been a circled game for both teams for a year.

I expect a great game as both teams have been practicing and game planning for this game all year.

While none of these three have played anyone of note to date (making the outcomes hard to forecast) one thing is certain, the team that survives this three week gauntlet will be tested and ready for the playoffs.

Final:

IWU 30
Wheaton 19

What a great win for the Titans.  IWU made a lot of mistakes in this game (3 INTs by Gallik and a disastrous misplay on a kickoff by Devonte Jones come to mind), but overall the Titans just played really tough.  Wheaton is a great team and just kept coming at the Titans -- IWU led most of the game, but it was never comfortable.

Those 32 IWU seniors will remember that 98-yard 4th quarter TD drive, consuming 8 minutes of time, for a long, long time.  It was only fitting a senior (T.J. Stinde) scored that touchdown.  And senior QB Rob Gallik was tremendous when it mattered the most in this one.

Proud of the performance by the Titans today against a really good Wheaton team.  Having a bunch of senior leadership sure means a lot.

Mr. Ypsi must be really happy today.

Understatement of the year!!! ;D

I really thought they were gonna blow it.  After going up 23-13, Wheaton got the TD back in less than 2 minutes, then Jones fumbled the kickoff, then they were called for pass interference in the end zone - 1st and goal at the 2. :o  But then Jeff Jerome stripped the ball at the 5, and the rest is history!  On the CCIW updates board, I call it THE DRIVE - 95 yards (and as Q correctly points out, with a penalty on the first play, it could be considered a 98-yard drive) in 17 plays, and almost as importantly, taking the clock from 10:44 to 2:34!  The TD itself was a thing of beauty: Gallik sets up to throw, then at the last second pitches it back to T. J. Stinde who went 22 yards untouched into a delirious end zone.

Alas, it gets even tougher next week.
