AndOne, to be frank, I'm on a campaign to be sure the "Wilder Field" part of the official name is not forgotten, omitted, etc.  I'm all for calling it Tucci Stadium for the wonderful support, generosity of Mr. Tucci and family, but I don't want the history and tradition of Wilder Field lost either -- hence = "Tucci Stadium at Wilder Field." I'm sure you and the Cardinals will be able to find it and show up at the proper place and time.

Call me "old school."  My parents, IWU '40 and IWU '43 are truly "old school" green.  (Not to mention my brother '64, sister-in-law '65 and tons and tons of friends, colleagues and comrades from the Class of '70).   Yes, including Ypsi.

Wilder Field (1893) is actually the 5th oldest football field in the NCAA, behind Wesleyan (1881), Williams (1883), Sewanee (1891), and Amherst (1891).

(I wonder when the Vikings last beat the Crusaders in Wheaton.)

As Greg Sager has already mentioned North Park's last win over Wheaton was 10-7 in 1979.  The game was memorable in that it was played at night at Wheaton Central High School's Red Grange Field in front of the largest crowed I ever witnessed in the CCIW.

NPC and WC traded touchdowns on their opening possessions and then NPC answered with a field goal on its next possession.  That was it.  A four-play from the one goal line stand in the fourth quarter saved the game for North Park.

North Park's only win at McCully Field came in 1971 on a field goal with four seconds left.  North Park's other three wins over the Crusaders came in 1970, 1972 and 1974, all in Chicago.

Former NPC football coach Bill Gourley used to boast that he had an undefeated record versus Wheaton, 3 and 0.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

And to be frank back its always bugged me when they say "The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim," and saying "at Tucci Stadium at Wilder Field" sounds like another case of confusion. The Angels can't play in LA and Anaheim at the same time, and neither can the Green Weenies play in 2 places at the same time!  :)

Furthermore, as defense exhibit #1, I submit----> From IWU's own athletic web site:

What's Next?
The Titans meet No. 4-ranked and also unbeaten North Central next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Tucci Stadium. Thats Tucci Stadium PERIOD.  ;)

I'd imagine then you get really confused when attending basketball games at Gregory Arena @ Merner Field House, or outdoor track events at the Jay and Dot Buikema Track @ Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

Don't even mention Sprinkle-Sprankle stadium!

Game story in the QC Times.

Augustana head coach Rob Cushman said he warned his players in advance that they couldn't take Saturday's game lightly.

"I tried to tell our guys that's not the old North Park," Cushman said. "I'm not sure I got through to them."

What's funny about this is that the Augie of today is taking anyone lightly!   :P

Nope, because while the official name might be Gregory Arena and it might be in (not @) Merner Fieldhouse, all anyone ever calls it is Merner, or simply, "the gym." And on D3Hoops, its usually affectionally referred to as "The Hangar."  ;)
As far as attending games in the "football stadium." I don't do track, so no confusion there.  :)

What??? You've got one of the best track and field programs, run by some of the best coaches in the country that turn out National Championship performers year in, year out, right in your own back yard- and you don't do track?! Time for you to get out of the Hangar and get some fresh air ;D ;D ;D ;D 8-)

Congrats to the NPU faithful on the win this weekend. This of course is going to have a lot of conversation and is well deserved. IWU winning at home against weekend was not a shocker to me but is going to set the stage for an excellent game next week at NCC. Elmhurst and Millikin.....well somebody had to win but I am still in shock that Elmhurst isn't at least competing in the top 4 this year.

I did finally attend a CCIW game finally this year and went to the NCC homecoming game vs my Alma-Mater Carthage. Disappointed is the best word to describe what I saw sitting on the Carthage sideline on Saturday The 72-20 score was nothing of what the game could and should have been as I left at halftime when the score was 55-0.

The disappointing word to describe Carthage is not that I expected them to win but it was that Carthage didn't seem to want to be there. There was no emotion, no leaders (both coaches and players) and everyone was simply going through the motions. The lack of pride, bringing up your teammates (heck I'd even go for yelling at your teammates) and wanting to improve just wasn't there.

Carthage is at the lowest point that I have seen them since I started following and playing for them in 2002. I don't have the answers but there needs to be drastic changes to the attitudes and mind sets of the Carthage football program. Have some pride these last three games and work hard on building for the future. Remember in 2003 we were 3-7 and in 2004 we went 11-2.

AndOne, you have a college degree, right?  You can't hold two ideas in your head at once?  Luckily, IWU gets to call its athletic facilities what it wishes -- to acknowledge recent generosity and stay true to previous traditions and generosity as well.  I believe Wilder bought and donated the land, afterall.  Of course, there are short-cuts and abbreviations for everything.  So, looking forward to a great game on Saturday -- you can show up at Tucci Stadium,  and I'll show up at "Tucci Stadium at Wilder Field."  I"m pretty sure we'll both be at the same place.  We all do call "The Shirk Center for Athletics and Wellness,"  "The Shirk."  or just "Shirk" -- so let it go.  What's important to me may not be important to you.  But, I can assure you that it is important to the University, its traditions and history.

Most important thing this week and for the future -- all athletics aside -- is the dedication of the new state-of-the art classroom building at IWU, State Farm Hall.  It is a beautiful facility that will serve the central educational mission of IWU for many years to come.  The dedication is today, in conjunction with the Fall, 2013 meeting of the Board of Trustees.  When CCIW chatsters are next on campus, do have a tour -- yes, glad you can visit our sports facilities which are some of the best in DIII, but do have a good look at State Farm Hall, as well.  Such an important improvement for the University.  I'm so very proud of my alma mater and thankful to State Farm and many other donors, for making possible this truly state-of-the art teaching complex.  It is also now home to the Departments of Economics and the Departments of Business Administration.  This also frees up important space for other departments and units (including the Action Research Center, study abroad office and the international student advisor's office) in the Center for the Liberal Arts building.

Warm greetings from one of the best library facilities in all of liberal arts education, too, -- The Ames Library.

Again, my congrats to NP for their big win @Augie.  Stunning.

I do think they have a pretty good shot at going 4-3 in CCIW play this year.

Of course you know that part of my job description is to give people who wear several shades of green a hard time as often as possible.  :)
As far as yourself, personally, it comes naturally to me to give you the hardest time concerning this issue when everyone else, including IWU itself, seems to just say the games are @ Tucci Stadium PERIOD.  ;D

And, remember that when IWU receives your generous check for press box and/or track upgrades/improvements, that they will probably have to draw up new campus maps. Otherwise IWU70 Press Box (or track) @ Tucci Stadium @ Wilder Field will really be confusing---not to mention another mouthful to say!

The new State Farm building sounds impressive. As Wesleyan has long been State Farm's Triple A affiliate in the Insurance League, it seems fitting that the newest structure on the IWU campus bears the company name. Although, with the millions Titan Q has funneled to the University over the years, not only in terms of actual dollars but in gloriously flowing D3Hoops/Football publicity as well, I would not have been surprised to see the new building be christened Quillman Hall!  :D

Reading the discussion about the stadium/field naming, I'll just throw this in also...having specific names for fields at stadiums is nothing new as has been mentioned and particularly for recognition of financial donors as well as the history of the program including honoring past players, coaches, etc.  For example, in our MIAA, Albion Colleges historic field is named for the late former long-time head coach Morley Frasier while the stadium is named for two of Albion's great coaches after the turn of/the first half of the 20th century, Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.  So the official name is Morley Fraiser Field at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.

Ditto to NPU.
That the eastern Vikings might now finish above .500 in the conference seems a pretty good possibility indeed.
They should definitely be rated the favorite at home against Elmhurst, and, at worst, a tossup against Millikin even on the road given their success against their western namesakes.
Should they finish with that 4-3 record, Rahm Emanuel will probably declare it NPU Day in Chicago. Or would that be Greg Sager Day?  ::)  :D
