I'll be webcasting my final football game of the season this afternoon. Here's the link for the 1 pm kickoff between NPU and Wheaton: http://athletics.northpark.edu/sports/2013/9/6/FB_0906135719.aspx?tab=football&path=football

I did two women's basketball games last night (including a 105-93, two-hour marathon involving a Knox College team that employs the "Grinnell System" run-and-gun). Today I'm doing the football game, then the men's basketball opener against St. Norbert tonight. I wonder if I'm going to have a voice left to sing in the church choir tomorrow morning.

Kiko, yes, I was hoping for a game in Hong Kong -- but had to settle for Minneapolis.  If the game does move "out of region," then we'll gladly host at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.  Did you know we serve egg rolls and "hot and sour soup" at half time . . . we used to sing "God Save the Queen" before each game, but now it's the "Internationale" or that pesky PRC National Anthem so commonly played at the Olympics these days, you know.  We'll have to adjust the rugby pitch a bit for American style sports, but that seems doable.  Perhaps a subsidy from the local US Consulate would help, but they are (the US GOV is) broke --  So no "cultural" or "sports diplomacy" happening there these days.  Perhaps the local "Confucius Institute" will sponsor?  The local CUHK teams used to be called the "Running Dogs of Imperialism" but now are called "Mao's Mustangs"  Should be a great game, if we get it.  Gotta love the creativity of the D3 Committee for putting a game on the Far Side.   Lots of development possibilities with all that gambling money, all that Chinese speculative ethos about.   I mean, the NFL is playing in Europe now, and the NBA comes to China often (mostly to sell shoes), so why not D3 football in Hong Kong?  Huanying, huanying! (Welcome, welcome!).

Have a good Saturday -- the conference season finale.  I think Elmhurst is going down.  I believe the Wheaties are staying home.

Greg, keep singing (and praying).  Hope you have voice left -- you are surely not short on loyalty.  Keep going.

I'm off to see my Weenies play EC -- then more roundball tonight vs. Aurora.  A great day to be a Titan, for sure.

Good luck with all the NP games.  Looks like you women rouindballers got off to a good start last night.

Congratulations to Jordan Roberts who just became the fifth quarterback in Wheaton history to throw for 6,000 yards in his career.
You win some, you lose some, and sometimes it rains.

IWU 24-10 over EC.

Today, the IWU D won the TO war with EC, and won the game.  Devonte Jones a good game, probably making it to 1,000 yards for the year.  Stinde a couple of key runs.  Gallik played well enough but not one of his, or his receivers, better days.   EC is a fine team and gave IWU all they wanted today.  Josh Williams had a huge day running and receiving, but the IWU D held, bending but not breaking.  No big big plays allowed, causing several TOs, with one INT and several fumble recoveries.  EC played IWU well, and it was close deep into the 4 Q.  I left when the rain came with the score 24-10 IWU and less than 2 minutes to go.  A good day for senior day, with the rain holding off much of the game, but strong winds, dark skies throughout.  EC can hold their heads high today, as they played well, but still went down to the now 9-1 Titans, heading for the play-offs it would appear.

Congrats to Coach Eash and all the Titans on an outstanding season so far, at 9-1.  More to come -- (perhaps a road game at The Chinese University of Hong Kong?) :)

Wheaties stay home, it would appear to me.  8-2 rarely does it this time of year.

Jones is now at 1,016 yards for the season.  Third Titan to accomplish that in a season.
Congrats to Devonte!

I remember Norm from his days at Dwight Township High.  The guy can coach.  And I think they will be in the D3 playoffs this year.
I'm thinking 10-2 this year for the Titans.

So far...............so good with my prediction back on August 16th for the Titans.  I would not mind if they exceeded my 10 win pick for their season.

Embarrassed to be a Wheaton alum today for the first time in a long time.  Though one play does not a classless program make, Wheaton was flat out wrong for what happened at end of the game at NPU.  Apologies from this poster to NPU fans.

For us that didn't see the game, what happened?

FINAL SCORE:

NCC----53
AUGIE-14

Pretty much total domination by the Cardinals today as expected with the game really over by halftime with NCC up 40-7.

* NCC clinches the outright CCIW championship.
* Third 10-0 regular season record in program history.
* Presumptive CCIW POY Spencer Stanek completes a typical 75% of his passes today (15 of 20) for 4 TDs, including setting an all-time single season record for TD passes with 32. Equally as impressive as the 32 TDs is his total of ONE INT.
* Nick Dace with 4 FGs-also a NCC single game record
* Peter Sorenson with his 12th TD catch of the season and Chad O'Kane with his 6th and 7th.
* Backup RB Denzel Thompson with 5 carries for a game high 82 yards---a 16.5 average!
* NCC defense led by LB Nick Slezak with 8 tackles. A good case for defensive POY can be made for either Slezak or Cardinal DB Shane Dierking.
* Series of the day---Augie with a TD with only 24 seconds left in the half. NCC's Jordan Dean returns the KO 84 yards to the Augie 4. On the 2nd play with NO time left on the clock, Ryan Szudarski hauls in a 4 yard TD pass from Spencer Stanek.
* Impressive game by AC RB Eric Chandler with 24 rushes for 116b yards. Also caught a 14 yd pass.
* For fiture improvement Augie definitely needs to upgrade, among other things, its passing game and receiving corps. They are too one-sided and thus easily defensible.
* Of all the visiting teams this year at BW Stadium, the Augie contingent was probably the most impressive. It was a crumby day--very windy and damp and a little rain, its a 3 hour drive from Rock Island, and a loss was anticipate by most people other than Augie fans. Yet, probably the most visiting fans of the season turned out, and they were very enthusiastic and vocal in their support of the western Vikings.

End of the game, under a minute, with 51-0 lead, and backup QB called a play which was to be a run, but instead passed and TD was scored. QB felt bad after, but by that time, it was too late. Should have just kneed it. Not a good way to close out the Senior careers on both teams. I too, apologize to NPU.
