Mr. Ypsi

This is weird, even by NCAA standards.  South Carolina self-reported violations including 'impermissible icing on cookie cakes given to recruits'.

Sheesh - what was in that icing?  Cocaine?  Steroids?

'Impermissible icing' - the mind boggles!!

Congrats to Wheaton Center Spencer Clark as the lone CCIW representative on the D3 All American team!

Actually Sean Dunning, RB Millikin, was on the 2nd team. Spencer was 1st team and this the pre-season AA team for D3, just to clarify.
Thanks Usee.  Man, I hit 30 and the eyesight goes right out the window.  Apologies to Mr. Dunning, and congrats to you, as well!

From the Colt's preseason game last night:

-Andy Studebaker shifted from his normal outside linebacker spot to the inside where he led the Colts D with 48 snaps.

He also was credited with 6 tackles.

It is looking like another long year in Kenosha.  Only 6 Seniors on the roster with an incoming class of 86 Freshmen.
I believe it is hard to win in the CCIW without good Senior and Junior leadership. IMHO

Eighty-six freshmen? Holy crap.

I wonder what the retention rate on those 86 guys is going to be.

I was thinking the same thing.  Hopefully at least half are back next season.   :)

Maybe it's my aged ears, or senility starting to creep in, but when I listened to the interview with Coach Etherton from Millikin; I heard him reference a lot of his returning players (even another running back), but I never heard him mention Sean Dunning. Dunning is pretty much a consensus preseason All-American running back for Millikin. Has anyone heard if he's not returning for his senior season?

Interesting.  Here is Millikin's roster for the upcoming season and Dunning isn't on it.  Huge loss for sure.

Big loss for Millikin in Dunning. He would have been the top RB coming back in the CCIW for sure.

I am not a big fan of the interviews. I think its a great idea but there was little to no preparation of questions in my view. It was a great opportunity to have the coaches on and ask specifics about key position battles, big games, injuries, etc. Who wouldn't have asked Etherington about Dunning? What about the QB battles around the conference? Missed opportunity in my view. Keep the format but let the D3 world submit questions like the CCIW chat allowed. That would be better.

Dunning is not listed on the 2014 roster.  Stunning!  Also, Millikin has 76 incoming freshmen.  That is a lot, but less than Carthage.

Based on who is coming back and my very premature analysis I have the CCIW title favorites as follows:

North Central 6-1
Wheaton 6-1
Illinois Wesleyan 5-2
Elmhurst 4-3
Augie 3-4
North Park 3-4
Millikin 1-6
Carthage 0-7

Reverse Elmhurst and North Park, and I agree.  And IF IWU can find a really solid QB, I'd reverse Wheaton and IWU.

I think USee has it pretty spot-on.  I would even put NC at 7-0 and would not be shocked if they run the table.  Unlikely, but they have the talent on board to do it.  I agree WC/IWU are neck and neck right behind NC.  After these (3) there is a pretty big drop off between EC/AC/NPU  and then MU/Car appear to be behind.

Great to see Andy having success.

Preseason coaches' poll is in:

I'm surprised at Elmhurst's place in the poll.

CardinalAlum-First, hope all is well with you and your family. I think #'s 4 through 6 could be interchangeable.  There are 3 real strong contenders, 3 middle of the packers, and 2 of the "behind a step" category.  It's just a poll and rather meaningless, but I am not shocked at the coaches poll.

According to North Park SID Kevin Shepke's press release, this is the highest that NPU has ever been picked to finish in the history of the CCIW football poll. I know for sure that this is the first time since 2002 that the Vikings have been picked to finish somewhere other than eighth (they were picked to finish seventh that year), and it's the first time since 2005 that the Vikings weren't the unanimous pick for eighth place.
