Quote from: iwu70 on November 08, 2014, 05:41:02 PMAs sad as I am to say it, NPU is above IWU in the CCIW standings.

Love it, love it, love it!

Of course, that standings situation will not hold up if the Vikings don't get back on the bus in Bloomington next Saturday afternoon with a W under their belts.

Speaking of the CCIW standings ... no offense to Elmhurst fans, but I was happy to see Millikin pull off the upset today. That's not because I have anything against the 'jays; it's just that, after so many years of seeing NPU end the season with a goose egg in the CCIW win column, I've reached the point where I don't like to see anybody have to suffer through an 0-7 campaign.

(Of course, I wouldn't rend my garments and go into sackcloth-and-ashes mode if Wheaton went 0-7, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. ;) )

Congrats to Steve Ryan, former Wheaton College LB from 1985-89, on the 118th victory as Head Coach of Morningside College.  He is now tied for the most victories in school history, though at a much higher winning percentage.  118-33, 78%.

Morningside is currently ranked #1 in the country in the NAIA.

Couple of CRAZY stats about Steve's team this year:

  • Morningside is averaging 61.6 points per game, while allowing 14.3
  • Morningside is averaging 672.9 yards per game, 362.4 rushing, 310.5 passing

A couple of games ago they were averaging over 70 points a game, and over 700 yards game.  In a game earlier in October, they had 916 yards offense in a single game.  Talk about domination!

Greg, unless I am way off in my prediction, I want to apologize in advance for what IWU will do to NPU next Saturday.  I suspect that a season of frustration will result in a double (or even triple) monkey stomp.

After one of the most frustrating seasons in decades, I can't really blame them too much.  Going into the season, at this point we expected to be either 7-2 or 8-1, not 3-6.

Soooooo if I understand this correctly, a member of the fanbase for a team that is 1-5 in conference play while averaging fewer than 20 PPG is promising multiple monkeys.  Pass the popcorn.

Forker and Corrigan combined for five sacks, and Liebforth had several tackles for loss for the Victorious Vikings.  And those stats come without blitzes, which NP rarely deploys.  I saw it once today, and that occurred after Carthage's starting LT went off for a play with an ankle tweak.

As Greg mentioned, NP could have scored more except for 1) the CB undercutting Childress in the end zone on the same route in which he had already posted three TD catches, 2) NP fumbling inside the one that Carthage recovered in the end zone, and 3) going for it on fourth and one from around the five yard line.

After the convincing victory, OL Epa Moananu (from American Samoa) led the team, which faced the beaming crowd, in a most peculiar victory activity that was clearly rehearsed.  Lots of foot stomping, chanting, and thigh hitting that I regarded as a Samoan victory dance.  Can't wait to see more of them!!!

North Park travels to Bloomington next week.  Thank you, thank you, seniors for your commitment.

I don't, either, but I find it entertaining, whatever it means.

Oh yeah, NP probably broke another futile streak.  When was the last time NPU beat the same two conference opponents in consecutive years?

That's probably a good thing. If you begin to understand what Ypsi says, or even worse, WHY he feels the need to say it, the cable TV stations will probably be clamoring over you to become the next Dr. Phil.

6-0 Wheaton  13
1-5 IWU          7

capiche?

Just a gut hunch, but yes, I think a season of intense frustration will result in a multiple TD win over NPU, possibly to embarassing proportions.
