Just a gut hunch, but yes, I think a season of intense frustration will result in a multiple TD win over NPU, possibly to embarassing proportions.

No way!  Norm?  Would he try to do something like that?   You reap what you sow!  Go Vikings!

Greg, unless I am way off in my prediction, I want to apologize in advance for what IWU will do to NPU next Saturday.  I suspect that a season of frustration will result in a double (or even triple) monkey stomp.

After one of the most frustrating seasons in decades, I can't really blame them too much.  Going into the season, at this point we expected to be either 7-2 or 8-1, not 3-6.

Wow... with that brazen prediction, I am totally rooting for NPU.

That's because horribly underperforming us scared the socks off you guys today! ;D

I'm not even sure what this means.

It was the very competitive game that I expected between Wheaton and IWU.  Wheaton has found a way to win the close games all year.  Sure, often not by blow outs.  But a win is a win, especially in a competitive CCIW conference.

Frankly the whole IWU coulda, woulda, shoulda talk is getting REALLY tiresome.  Sure they've had some hard knocks and hardships this year, but so have other teams.  Difference is, fans from other teams haven't been banging the drum for weeks on end on how they really should be vying for the conference title if only they didn't have the 17th team QB playing.  IWU lost 32 seniors from last year.  That is going to have a significant impact on any team.

For once I'd love to hear from an IWU fan that perhaps we weren't as good as expected this year rather than excuse, after excuse.

Seriously?!  You could wait a lifetime and that isn't going to happen.  Poor IWU---all the breaks always go against them.  But more to the point.  I agree that if Norm can run it up he will.  GO NPU!

Quote from: markerickson on November 08, 2014, 09:23:07 PMAfter the convincing victory, OL Epa Moananu (from American Samoa) led the team, which faced the beaming crowd, in a most peculiar victory activity that was clearly rehearsed.  Lots of foot stomping, chanting, and thigh hitting that I regarded as a Samoan victory dance.  Can't wait to see more of them!!!

That's the North Park haka, created specifically for the NPU football program by the team's ten Samoans. It made its public debut before and after the Homecoming victory over Millikin two weeks ago. You can view it here on the MU @ NPU highlights.

It's not really a victory dance. It's more of a posture demonstration used to inspire and/or pay homage, and it evolved out of ancient Polynesian war dances that were meant to fire up warriors before battle. Lots of groups and associations in New Zealand (the Maoris are famous for their various haka), Tonga, Samoa, etc., have their own haka. The crew that helped Peter Jackson film the Lord of the Rings movies in New Zealand created a haka to bless and honor the work on those films before they began filming.

The haka is best known in the western world for its association with sports teams from the South Pacific, especially the All-Blacks (New Zealand's national rugby team, which has the world's most widely-seen haka). Three D1 football programs -- Brigham Young, Hawaii, and Arizona -- have haka as well (haka is both a singular and plural noun), owing to the large number of Samoans from the stateside diaspora (as opposed to the native-born Samoans who populate NPU) who have played for BYU, Hawaii, and Arizona.

The haka is a sacred and pivotal aspect of South Seas culture. It's really an honor that the NPU football Samoans not only devised one for the team, but that they've invited their non-Samoan teammates to be a part of it, and everyone's really embraced it.

As I've taken to saying on my broadcasts, every D3 school has a fight song. But only North Park has a haka.

Oh yeah, NP probably broke another futile streak.  When was the last time NPU beat the same two conference opponents in consecutive years?

You have to go back to 1970 and 1971 for that. North Park beat North Central and Wheaton in both of those seasons.

(Of course, I wouldn't rend my garments and go into sackcloth-and-ashes mode if Wheaton went 0-7, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. ;) )
No, but a large curtain in the tabernacle would surely be torn asunder if that happened.

Mr. Ypsi

I have no idea what you guys are whining about.  I've been saying for weeks that this has been a very disappointing season in SO MANY ways.  By preseason prognostications, we should be either 7-2, or 8-1, not 3-6.  Mono to the 1st string qb was the worst, but there are so many other problems.

Again, based on what they did to Wheaton, I have a gut hunch that they will take out a season-long frustration against NPU, to the tune of a 40-50 point beat-down.

So a Freshman QB who was 13 of 30 for 182 yards is the primary difference between 7-2 and 3-6.   Interesting also that you are accusing us of whining.

Buy Mugsy, Wheaton is playing with their 3rd string QB who they had to convert from WR just to play there.  They also lost their best Defensive back to an ACL and didn't play today with one of their best defensive linemen.  Poor Thunder.
