Academically and in terms of faculty there are going to be significant cuts at Elmhurst.  Hopefully the athletic spectrum as we know it at Elmhurst will not be affected.

I guess that we'll find out how much pull Paul Krohn has within the Elmhurst administration, and how much of an overall institutional budget driver is the tuition money brought in by EC student-athletes who might go elsewhere if the athletic department suffers cuts.

Very true Greg.  We are in the midst of transition to a new President.  We presently have an interim "acting" President.  Hopefully the TBD Pres will value athletics as part of the college experience and continue to promote athletics.

I will have to make that one for sure! :o :)  Finally, after all these years. :) No excuses.  We can discuss the itinerary in the future-plenty of time! Anyway, wishing you and your family blessed Christmas and New Year's holidays and all the best for 2015.

Here's CCIW commish Chris Martin's comments on the CCIW/MIAA scheduling agreement:

Quote"The CCIW is looking forward to the final year of our scheduling agreement with the MIAA and St. Norbert," Martin said. "We are happy to serve as hosts in 2015 and welcome the MIAA institutions and St. Norbert for our final season of football competition."

... and here's MIAA commish Penny Allen-Cook's comments:

Quote"The MIAA football teams are looking forward to the strong competition that the CCIW will present us in this final season of the scheduling agreement," Allen-Cook said. "It has been a great opportunity for our programs to challenge ourselves early on in the season."

I can read the tea leaves as well as the next guy. These comments clearly indicate that this series is not going to be renewed ... which makes sense, given the CCIW's expansion in 2016-17.

I can't recall if the CCIW expansion has been mentioned/discussed here on the board before or not.  But who is coming in (or back in) to the CCIW in 2016-17?

Carroll College is leaving the MWC to join the CCIW.

Or to be more precise - to rejoin the CCIW.  They left because (or at least partially because) they were not at all competitive, but seem to have upgraded their emphasis on athletics.

Carroll's current football HC Mark Kryzkowski is a former EC Assistant Coach and a WONDERFUL person.

Formerd3db- Indeed a MUST.  Likewise a very Merry Christmas and blessed 2015 for EVERYBODY.

It's been Carroll University since 2009. I know what you're thinking, BW -- Sager's being a nitpicker again. ;) I have a well-deserved reputation on d3boards.com for doing that. But since I encounter at least one SID per school year who lists "North Park College" on the online schedule of one of his school's teams, in spite of the fact that the school became North Park University a full 18 years ago (the University of Dubuque's SID was the guilty party this year), I've become observant about getting the names of schools right.

The declared reason why Carroll left our league was that it wanted to upgrade its scholarly reputation to put it in line with what it viewed as reality, seeing itself as a peer of such burnished citadels of academia as Lawrence, Knox, and Grinnell, rather than of the plebeian likes of us armpit-scratching CCIW troglodytes. In fact, Carroll's president at the time openly stated this self-anointed elitist view to the press when Carroll announced that it was switching leagues, leading to a lot of ill will among CCIW presidents towards Carroll in return. Since all of the major actors in that little melodrama have since moved on, retired, or died, it's all just so much water under the bridge now. To the best of my knowledge, nobody in the CCIW holds that grudge anymore.

What Chuck said about Carroll leaving the CCIW because of a lack of competitiveness -- or, more precisely, out of a desire to quit the ongoing and expensive arms race among CCIW institutions to outdo each other in terms of athletic facilities -- is commonly accepted among CCIW types as the real, unstated reason why Carroll left the league. But, to the best of my knowledge, nobody from Carroll has ever admitted that.

So does Carroll deciding to rejoin the "armpit-scratching CCIW troglodytes" mean they have decided to downgrade academics?! ;D  (Or merely that they now have a less snobbish President?)

Thanks for the correction.  I'm aware that they are now Carroll University.   I guess I've called it a college for so long and old habits are hard to break.
