Those are very nice looking. Glad they went back to the cardinal, even if it is only on one side.

I agree, it's a sharp looking helmet.  I love the red on black color combo.

Coach Conway, despite having won CCIW Coach of the Year, is 0-6 in nonconference action.  I am predicting two nonconference victories for him this year.  The opener is against Concordia (WI).  NPU lost at home by three to this team last year.  However, CU's QB - who was conference POY - has used up his eligibility.  CU's roster lists only one QB, and he is a sophomore.  Viking victory.   NPU then hosts St. Norbert who last year beat Carthage, got spanked by NCC, and lost to Macalester (MN).  Viking victory.  Unfortunately, the Vikes travel to UW-OK who went 6-1 in conference play last year.  Viking loss.

I am not tempted to predict conference action.

Oh, man, stuff like this makes me nervous. I'm not saying that I disagree, mind you -- I'm simply saying that stuff like this makes me nervous.

I really want to see the haka (?),  i.e., the celebratory dance, after the nonconference home victory.  I was unprepared last year when I saw it.  Motivation, Greg.

NPU has gone and gotten down-right competitive in the CCIW.  So quit destroying Pool C chances for our runner-up!! ;)

Adam Dandsdill from Wheaton has a chance to do something that is very rare in the CCIW this year. Since 1977 there have been 5 players to win the DPOY award 2x. Dandsdill can become the 6th.
The repeat winners are:

1981-2 Jim Perryman, Millikin
1988-89 Chad Thorson, Wheaton
1994-95 Rusty VanWetzning, Augie
1996-97, John Munch, IWU
2008/2010 Matt Wenger, NCC

There are some really good players who only won it once. Including, Andy Studebaker, Pete Ittersagen, Lenny Radtke, and Lynn Thomsen. Dandsdill can put his name with some elite players if he can sustain his level of play for 2015. He will have some tough competition from the league including Sean Garvey and Kyle Vanhuizen from IWU, and Logan McRae and Mikey Swider, his teammates at Wheaton. In addition there are some very talented underclassmen on defense in the CCIW.

Man, those were some really good players, and to your point, some as impressive who only won it once.

Agree that there are some really good players on that list.  In Lynn Thomsen's case, he started all four years but won the award in only his senior year.  Was certainly good enough to win it multiple years, but he also had the good fortune to play with some other very good players at Augie who happened to win the award in their senior year (Pete Kasap in 83, Joe Wheeler in 84 and Mark Long in 85).  All three were All American's and very deserving of the award.

I realize that the Conway era is a significant break from the past, and that NPU now needs to be viewed differently on the gridiron, but three and a half decades of almost continuous Vikings ineptitude since I arrived on campus as a freshman in 1979 have instilled a lot of caution in me when it comes to preseason expectations.

Mike Conway's first two teams were both very young. Teams that have as many freshmen in their lineups as the '13 and '14 NPU teams had will typically have rocky starts, and neither of those Vikings teams were an exception to that rule. This year the Vikings will be a bit older on average, and, more to the point, they'll be a lot more experienced. A large percentage of NPU sophomores, for instance, will come into this season with significant game experience from last season under their belts. It's therefore reasonable to expect the Vikings to be much more prepared to hit the ground running next month than they were during Mike Conway's first two campaigns.

Hmm... HD broadcasts.  This could be good.

It will be interesting to see how accessible it is without WETN or local station broadcasts.

I can understand why the new online video provider will replace WETN video, but what's the rationale for shutting down the WETN radio broadcasts?
