On a side note, former Wheaton D-Coordinator Rod Sandberg has his Whitworth Pirate program sitting at 6-0 and ranked #25 in the country, in just his 2nd season as HC. They have a tough task in week 7 as they travel to McMinnville OR to take on #2 Linfield... That would open some serious eyes to pull that one out. Go Pirates!

Should be another epic game in Naperville.   Wish I could be there, but sons swim meet at UIC comes first. Will be watching on cell.

IWU pulling away from EC, now up by three scores.  A big day for Warner and AC14.  IWU D gave up lots of running yardage, but again didn't break.

IWU over EC 49-28.  Final.  Titans go to 7-0.

Very disappointing loss for NPU, which led most of the game but couldn't put away the Big Blue in Decatur. The Vikings offense just didn't get it done today.

Really a dominant effort For the Thunder in Naperville today.  This is the deepest, most complete Wheaton team I have ever seen.  I don't know how good IWU is but if they can beat this team, they will have to be really, really good.

Since I could not get the Viking video feed to work and the Gophers were off, I had a semi-productive afternoon.

After watching IWU last week and watching a good portion of the Wheaton/NCC game, I don't see IWU beating Wheaton.  I think Wheaton wins by at least two TDs.  But based on how some teams have performed week to week in the CCIW, who knows what's going to happen.

Also watched the Augie/Carthage game, and another really uneven effort by Augie.  As I've said before, this is a really tough team to figure out. Offense has not done a lot during the CCIW portion of the schedule after putting up a ton of offense in the first 3 games.  I certainly expected some drop off during the CCIW slate, but not to this degree.  From a Defensive perspective, you never know what you will get week to week.  I felt pretty good about the progress as the D played well against EC, Wheaton and IWU.  Today, they give up 39 points to Carthage, for their highest output of the season.  Unless Augie can win out, this will be only their second losing season since 1978.  Definitely disappointing, but at least I'm not seeing the high volume of questionable coaching decisions that were made over the past few seasons.  I'll remain optimistic that Coach Bell and his staff will be able to get this turned around over the coming seasons.  After watching several games this season, there seems to be an overall lack of team speed and athleticism with this group that will need to be addressed in future recruiting classes.

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question, but what happened to Peltz?  I haven't had a chance to check this thread as much as usual lately.

Good game today though.  Both defenses looked good.  I liked both teams' RB too.  Impressive players.  I almost had a heart attack when it looked like Wheaton was gonna get a fumble return TD after they drove Warden backwards for 15 yds!  But I didn't hear a whistle so no wonder Swider was fired up.

You were probably not around to see the undefeated 1961 Crusaders who beat the likes of Northern Illinois, Wayne State, and Bradley U, along with Hope, Carroll, and then doormat NCC.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Yep, they have the deepest team the Thunder have had in recent years.
Great job by the offensive line on their run blocking just plowing over all their opponents.  A very  powerful group who took the game over today with Sola Olateju.

The pass blocking technique the tackles use even when successful is a timer that doesn't ever give the qb much time.
I am more of a fan of the now old technique UWW used up to last year of pass blocking at the line of scrimmage making the first step a half step forward or sideways mirroring the def player stopping the initial momentum.
UWW now does what most do and line the tackles farther back in the form of a pocket and drop back fast allowing the DE to get going very fast.  This causes hurries, scrambles as when the DE gets to the depth of the QB  he usually can make the
QB
1. scramble
2. throw quicker than he wants to (hurries)
3. get sacked
4. or contact after releasing the ball which has caused many QB injuries

vs

Pass blocking at the line of scrimmage stopping the initial momentum giving the QB more time with less hits and hurries.
This is a hard technique to learn or teach.  I compare it to learning to swim.  I thought I was going to drowned when I was learning to swim but after much practice it became as easy as walking and felt like I could doze taking a casual easy mile swim.

Using the drop back quick pocket technique it is almost impossible to stop the momentum.  QB's are getting hurt and the rules will continue to change favoring the QBs taking something away from the game until pass rushers approach the QB like a punter.
I believe a lot of teams are not teaching or spending time on different techniques of offensive line play.

Great game today in Naperville. Before getting to specifics, what a great atmosphere... Tailgates everywhere, music, and sweet new uniforms for NCC. The stage was set:

1. Wheaton has its own version of Gronk. Zach Lindquist... Wow kid! Just Wow! If u haven't seen a replay of his catch, rumble, and reach into the end zone on the last play of the 1st half, u need to. Obviously a huge play! What a versatile player, lining up as the QB in the wildcat at times to go along with numerous pancake blocks. Love seeing Wheaton find ways to get him more involved.

2. Logan McRae and Caleb Ashby stood out today for the D. McRae did his usual of keeping contain and pressuring the QB. How about Caleb Ashby? Lining up as a standup DT while Wheaton's in a nickel package and the kid absolutely wreaked havoc. Ashby seems to get better every week and this is one of the most talented trios of LB's Wheaton has had in a long time.

3. Trey Hanley. As highlighted by Coach Swider after the game, Trey entered the season buried on the depth chart, worked his butt off and was ready for his opportunity, making 2 huge catches, 1 for a TD.

4. Wheaton's depth is impressive.

5. I haven't seen the replay yet, but the officials reversing the Wheaton defensive TD when Dansdill drove back Warden for 10+ yards, was absolutely the right call. Forward progress was stopped, Warden never escaped fro Dansdill's grasp, whistle or no whistle, forward progress was stopped, period.

6. I'll hold firm to my stance that NCC should have gone exclusively with Hunniford at QB. Wheaton's D was up to the task of stopping NCCs run attack. Hate to see Hunniford leave with an injury, hopefully he's all right.

7. Injuries. After making a 60 yard catch (short route, catch, long run) on the 1st play from scrimmage, Luke Thorson left with an injury. Hopefully he makes a quick recovery, along with some other guys who are dinged up.

Hard fought, hard hitting game today. Great win for the Thunder. Will be very interested to see how next weeks NCC @ IWU matchup turns out.

Didn't mean to exclude #23 Sola Olateju... He was a standout today, and prob should have been given the rock even more than he did
