Wow, thanks for the data.

It seems Wheaton has gone from bad place kicking to terrible punting.

With the depth and speed on the roster you have to assume nearly all of the net is the gross there... can't imagine there has been much in terms of return yardage.

Wheaton better get their punting in order.  Way more short fields than necessary.   If not for the defense bowing up on real short field after less than 20 yard punts, this game might not have been a W.

Out of 241 ranked teams in D3, Wheaton is 236th in net punting. Since there are only 5 teams worse it's worth noting who they are:

237. Widener
238. Wisconsin Platteville
239. Geneva
240. Gallaudet
241. Carleton

The next best teams to Wheaton in net punting that are playoff teams are UWO 169th, UWW 132 and Wabash 102

Unfortunately for the Red and White faithful, Platteville is *not* number 238 in punt returns...

NPU over IWU at the half 20-10.  Titans are sleep-walking.

I'm surprised.  How much time remains?

IWU just went for it on 4th and 1 at the NPU 37, but Shoemaker-Gilmore got stuffed for no gain, so the Vikings take over on downs.  5+ minutes left in the third, with NPU still up 20-10.

Thanks for the update!

Still a lot of time left.

North Park takes down Illinois Wesleyan, 27-24.  It's the first time since 1985 that the Vikings have defeated the Titans.  Congratulations to the Vikings!!

Titan Q

North Park 27
IWU 24

North Park out-played IWU for 4th quarters, in every facet of the game.  I'm pretty confused as to what I saw today from the Titans.

Thank you to all of the IWU seniors who have worked so hard for 4 years!

For the record, I think just one poster said that (Ypsi).

Well, congrats to NP -- they outplayed the Titans in almost every way.  What you saw, Q, was very poor play by IWU -- poor coverage, poor kick return coverage, poor passing attack, strange play calling, high risk pitches and swing plays that led to losses and TOs (I just don't get the play calling?), and many crucial penalties that were drive killing.  When you have a back like S-G and you don't ride him and use him on first down to get to 2nd and 3rd down and short, you get stuffed.  How does a team of this quality have a delay of game penalty with four minutes left in the fourth Q of the 10th game of the season?.  Slow play calling coming in from the coaching staff.  Inexplicable.  Sleep walking.  NPU played hard, had some nice offensive schemes, confusing the IWU coverage on the edges and in the middle.  IWU look befuddled.  Very disappointing end to the season, going to leave a bad taste.  I guess I spoke too soon about the Titans exceeding my expectations at 8-2 . . . they met my initial prediction and expectation at 7-3.  First loss to NPU since 1985.  Very disappointing finish to an otherwise good season.

NPU outplayed the Titans today and deserved to win.

My thanks to all the seniors for all their contributions to IWU and the IWU program.

Magnificent. Just magnificent.

I could not be prouder of these Vikings, especially the eleven seniors -- almost all of whom played huge roles in today's upset win.

I've gotta get over to the crackerbox to get ready to call NPU's basketball opener, so I'll share my thoughts on this game later.

I wonder how much voice you have left after calling that game!

mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. :-[  (Though I never called them 'stupid'!)  But I still contend that AT THAT TIME dropping IWU completely out for a close loss (tied after three quarters) to what the same voters considered the #5 team in D3 was 'lazy' voting.  Yes, they were just proven right, but I'm not sure you want them voting on results that haven't happened yet!

Oh, and congratulations to the Vikings!  I kinda doubt we can beat you another 29 straight times, but I trust we will TRY! ;D

Oh, I know.

Ypsi, I think they were voting on results that had happened. You just didn't agree with the voters as to what those results showed.
