True, although in-home visits in Moline and Manito aren't usually complicated by typhoons or volcanic eruptions.

(At least, as far as I know.)

No, but January blizzards are more likely in Moline and Manito.  (And I don't think Maui has active volcanoes, and January is not monsoon season. ;))

I'll volunteer to do the January home visits in Maui (though, if the kid looks legit) I can't promise I won't try to steer them to IWU instead! ;D

I dunno man, going to Maui for home visits can be dangerous unless you know where to get 1 liter Mai Tai's. Or maybe because of the 1 liter Mai Tai's. My memory is a little foggy.  :D

There is a dormant volcano on Maui: Haleakala. It hasn't erupted in over two centuries, but you never know. Geologists say it's quite capable of erupting again. It would just be North Park's luck if it erupted while a coach was doing an in-home visit on Maui.

Although I was obviously kidding about the volcanoes and hurricanes, there are three very active volcanoes on the Big Island: Hualalai, Mauna Kea, and Kilauea. Given that Hawaii County (i.e., the Big Island) is the second-most populous county in the Aloha State, it's conceivable that the NPU coaching staff would recruit there, although I think that at this time they're concentrating upon Honolulu County (i.e., the island of Oahu).

Hawaii doesn't have monsoons. It has a rainy season, which corresponds to our winter, and a dry season, which covers the rest of the calendar. ("Dry" can be a relative term, especially if you live on the northeastern coast of one of the islands.) The hurricane season runs from July to November. Since the NPU coaching staff makes their Pacific trips in late December and early summer, it just brackets hurricane season.

My first reaction was to reflect on "what could have been..."  If he had not been plagued by injuries (mostly concussions, if I recall), Mark Hiben could have been an all time great receiver for Wheaton.

But after reading this article on the Wheaton website, it is clear Mark has gone on to do other great things in track and more importantly academically.  Congrats to Mark on his Academic All District achievements in both track & football.

Mikey Swider, All-Conference and All-Region linebacker, and All-American wrestler from Wheaton is training in Albuquerque, NM with Jon Jones the #1 pound for pound MMA fighter in the world. Mikey is in the ring with Jones 60 - 80 minutes every day. Nobody else.

Below are 4 pictures. The top left is Mikey and other MMA fighters. The top right is Mikey and Jon Jones. The bottom left is Mikey, Jon, and Holly Holm, the female fighter who knocked out Rhonda Rousey to become the #1 female MMA fighter in the world. The bottom right is Mikey with Jon and 3 coaches watching film of his opponent.
