North Central is off this week and then plays North Park on 10/8 before they host the Thunder on 10/15. Some would consider that 3 weeks off but I am sure North Central coaches don't look at that way.

Personally, I don't think North Central will be preparing for Wheaton much with North Park on the front burner. The only thing they may do is install some new wrinkles into their schemes, which gives them this week and next week to practice and see if they can keep them under wraps for the 15th.

If I'm Wheaton, I am really trying to motivate and prepare my offense for a stronger showing this weekend.  IWU's offense is probably going to be better than Elmhurst's was this past weekend.  Plus IWU at home is always tougher.

Just re-watched Coach Swider's post-game comments.  Favorite part, "Don't let anyone steal your joy."  Winning a football game is a fun thing, no matter how it happens.  I haven't played competitively in 25 years, but those kids are lucky getting to do what they love.  It was good to watch again now that a little time has passed since the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97C_mDPw438

Yeah, I'm guilty of being far too negative after Saturday's game.  It is what happens when you have high expectations and what you see doesn't seem to align.  I'm on the periphery of the program and I don't want to steal the players & coaches joy.  They are not doing it pretty, but they are 4-0.  One game at a time.

They have won 25 straight regular season games.  I would take the 26th by the same score!

Eerily similar to NCC rolling w/ Dylan Warden over Justin Hunniford in 2015... if u ask me...

On the positive side the Thunder faced the #2 defense in the conference in Elmhurst. IWU is #3

On the head scratcher side Wheaton had zero turnovers and scored 10 pts. But for the second straight week they ran only 59 plays (56 last week). Elmhurst, like Carthage, ran the play clock down under 5 seconds before every snap.

This will be an interesting matchup vs IWU. I think SMG34 is one of the best backs in the conference and is a multiple threat as a runner, receiver, returner. Definitely the most talented offensive player Wheaton has faced.

Hunniford was hurt last year and unable to play. If I remember right he got hurt the week before.

Unless I'm mistaken, he got hurt in the WC game itself, but he didn't get a snap until the 3rd quarter or so...

Yep you are right. I just looked at the box and he was 6-9 v Wheaton. Old, I am. Bad eyes, I have.

Looking at the play-by-play, looks like they were rotating right from the start of the game thru the 3rd quarter, which I believe is when he got hurt. Maybe he was nursing something going into that game? Not sure. I don't remember hearing anything about that, but then again, those SoDupers play their cards rather close to their chests...

What hasn't been mentioned much is the dominance of their defense. They are playing at a ridiculous level for a group that I thought would be the weakness of this team. The defensive front, which includes more than just 7, are better than last year as a group which is hard to do when you are missing the likes of Adam Dansdill and Mikey Swider. They are in the top 15 in the country in scoring defense, rushing defense, and sacks. Noah Spielman, Whit Wiggins, Chase Greenlee, Caleb Ashby, Eric Stevenson, Luke Sahly, and Michael Stanley have been outstanding. The other place Wheaton is really dominating is on special teams (Kick scoring excepting). Their return and coverage units have really change field position in every game.

That's well said USee. The run D has been particularly stout all season. The secondary also had a great game vs Elmhurst. #9 Marcus Smith followed up a fantastic game @ Carthage with an even better game vs Elmhurst. He was credited w/ 3 pass break ups. One of which was in the first quarter, on 3rd down on a very well thrown ball to Elmhurst WR Miller in the end zone. Smith made a great play on the ball to break it up... could have easily been a TD for the Jays. The Jays were forced to kick a FG on the following play. Big time Marcus! I also think #4 Tyler Sigler is developing into the unquestioned leader of the secondary. Wow did he come lay the thunder on a few run plays, plus he made 2 pass break ups. It's also nice to see #14 Kyle Fox make a HUGE INT in the 4th quarter to set the offense up with a short field that would prove to be the winning score. I didn't realize Kyle was our starting safety as a SOPH last year before suffering a season ending injury in the opening Coe game. It's great to have you healthy again Kyle! And CB #1 J Moore has stepped up his game from last year as well and has 2 TFL's, 3 break-ups, and 3 deflections on the young season. Keep it going secondary... bigger challenges are ahead, starting this Saturday in B-Town.

I also thought punter #29 Zach Feddeler had a nice game, placing 2 punts inside the 20 vs Elmhurst, making it that much more difficult for the Jays O to get going.

You're right.  My apologies to the Parkers.   In no way was I overlooking the Park.....ok, I can't back that up!  Sorry.  ;D
