Q,
You highlighted the wrong part. 4b clearly states catch must be maintained thru hitting the ground. With replay, I absolutely think this would have been called incomplete, regardless of what was called on the field.

#ZachCaughtThenLostItThereforeNotACatch

I don't read it that way at all.

If the receiver has control, the ball can touch the ground...and the ball can even move.

Thanks ncc_fan.
Very nice video production by WC!

What a fabulous catch by the IWU receiver. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

In a couple of weeks Wheaton is going to have a bunch of fans who will be dressed in green.  ;D

Likely not, unless they care more about a share of the conference title more than boosting their Pool C chances.  Assuming all three of the ranked teams win out, and (shudder) the Wheaties take the Bell, the Titans cannot win the AQ as they finished negative in the H2H point differential.  One or both of North Central/Wheaton will finish positive.

For playoff purposes, the Titans should be hoping for at this point is to push above the non-AQ team among North Central and Wheaton in the final regional rankings.  They have the H2H win over Wheaton, but not over North Central.  It seems to me that they should want Wheaton in the Pool C mix rather than the Cardinals as they are far more likely to finish above the Thunder in the regional pecking order than a team which beat them by two touchdowns.

Great points.

I think winning the conference title is such a big deal, I'll be rooting for Wheaton to beat NCC...and then worry about Pool C when that time comes.

I am no D3 football bracketologist, but it would seem to me that IWU at 9-1 would be a Pool C lock regardless of other CCIW Pool C positioning.

I think the odds would be very good for a 9-1 IWU, but Pool C bids in football are so much more scarce than they are in basketball that (as with basketball) you want to get to the table as soon as possible.

At 3:20:56 on the tape, it appears the receiver has one foot on the goal line with the other in the air.
He is bent backwards with his torso over the goal line. It appears he has the ball pressed against his body with his left hand (control). With the positioning of his body bending backwards, his torso and the ball being pressed against it, have crossed the plane of the goal line. Is it not a TD at that point?
As far as possession, neither #14 nor #53 seem to have petitioned the referee very vigorously, if at all, for reversal of his call.
See what you think.

thunderdog

The argument that he has crossed the plane of the goal line is no argument at all. 4b clearly states that if you go to the ground while catching a ball, whether in the field of play or in the end zone, player must maintain complete and continuous control.

And what evidence is there in the pics that he does not have control?

No because the act of making the catch lead him to the ground.  Q correctly points out the rule that applies and that the NCAA allows "slight" movement of the ball when hitting the ground as long as there is control.

IWU wins.  It's good to see the board more active.   I guess that is what happens with now 3 teams in the top 15 nationally.

Wheaton needs to score a lot more.  Defense still seems elite.   Offense has players but is too predictable against other talented teams.

Only question is what happened to USee?  Someone tell him we aren't talking about you know what as much as before.

Play that no one is talking about, but hurts from a Wheaton perspective almost more than any was the dropped pass by Olateju.

In the 1st quarter at the 1:03 mark of the game video, Olateju blows past the LB straight up the seam and was 8 yards behind the LB, all alone.  The pass was right on his hands and he dropped a easy 73 yard TD pass.  I think he dropped at least 3 passes.

Sorry Coach Eash, it was not a gimmick play, IF Wheaton had executed on it.

I visited Yellowstone during NPU's first home game.  I went to yesterday's game.  The Viking "glory years" (2013/4/5) are long gone.  NPU has zero team speed on O and should fire the OC ASAP.  Yesterday's game was pathetic.  The feature back, Menedez, does not have the power to run between the tackles and lacks the speed to turn the corner.  NPU ran the predictable screen to him, resulting in five catches for four yards with a long of three yards.  I don't think the coaching staff knows how a TE can help your team.  In a single back offense who went in motion with a QB who lacked mobility, Millikin recognized and blitzed a rostered DB to repeatedly flush the QB out of the pocket.  The MU right DE applied plenty of pressure as well.  This makes 180 degrees of the field nonexistent.  While rushing three much of the time, the Viking D did a great job of harassing the MU QB with many TFL.

I think he should be benched for the next two games.  ;)

Now tell us what you really think, Mark!
LOL.  :D

Upon further research, my years were off.  2013 led to winning at least two conference games for three years in a row.

That play was an almost guaranteed touchdown.  And a couple plays before was another dropped.  It was painful.

I was really surprised Elmhurst didn't have a better showing vs. Augie.   Rather sloppy play by the Jays cost them.    Elmhurst needs some guys to step up and make some plays.  Augie won this game on 3rd down,  executing and keep their drives going.   Congrats to IWU.  In the pick em's I actually had IWU upsetting Wheaton, not that I wanted it to happen, rather I had a hunch IWU's defense was going to rise to the occasion.

I didn't read thru pickems totally, but I think you may have been the only one.  I'd congratulate you, but then you had to spoil it with the next phrase! :o  (If I were participating this season, I might have picked the Titans just out of hope/homerism, but I fully expected a Thunder win.)  Oh, heck, congrats on your pick! ;D

And, yes, I think the Titan defense has gotta be among the top 5 in the country.

Does that mean NCC's has to be in the top 4 in the country?  😜
