I'd bet the Big Blue would be willing to join Voltron also...

Gregory Sager,

Can Voltron count on Viking representation?

If it was Carthage vs. Wheaton - almost certainly.  Carthage vs. NCC - probably couldn't care less!

"...so you're telling me there IS a chance?"    :P

While Carthage is strong, IMO, I just don't see them being able to top NC Saturday.   But who knows?

I foresee NC/IWU tying for the title,  NC getting the AQ but IWU also getting a nice opening round matchup.

Still, a lot can happen in these next few weeks.

NCC is facing Carthage at the Redmen's absolute best, although Cobbs has been out and I dont' know his status. This game will be like the IWU/Redmen game, close to the end. I think NCC is at most a 5 pt favorite at home.

Of course, I'll be cheering for Carthage this weekend, though it's a tough hill to climb for them.  They played IWU so so well on D, esp. rushing D.  I would love to see them win @ NCC, but feel at the end of the day NCC will win by 1 TD to 10 points.  I'm still hoping for an outright IWU CCIW crown.

Glad IWU has the bye week now to rest, get fully healthy, though we've really not have any truly significant injuries this year.  Knock on wood.  D is healthy, but the bye week will help Morgan Alexander get healthier, more rested.  He's had a great year so far, but surely has taken a good beating too.

Totally agree on Jack Healy, truly coming into an All-CCIW talent level.  Great size, agility and strength in going for contested balls.  At 6'5" he does create a lot of match-up issues with mostly shorter corners in this league.  Overall, I think we have to say that the rapid improvement of the IWU receiving corps is another reason why the Titans have had such a good season, to date.  We knew Bauer was pretty good, but had some worries about the receivers.  I think all have performed pretty well, some very admirably.  Most of these guys are sophomores, so a bright future for the IWU air attack the next two years. Bauer a sophomore too.  Matise Scott also had a very good, though short, outing vs. EC.  Made a big difference in giving #26 a breather in the second half.

MU will be very tough.  I expect a very close game, largely dependent on how well the IWU defensive secondary plays on Nov. 11th.

Here we go -- still lots of different scenarios out there with two weekends to go.

I'll take that as a resounding "Yes, of course..."

Gregory Sager

I doubt that you could find anybody connected to North Park who gives a rat's tuchus about the Carthage @ North Central football game, save for a certain NPC alumnus who happens to be the dad of a former Carthage football player as well as the football P.A. announcer at Keller Field (in addition to his side job as head basketball coach of the Red Men ;)).

Under normal circumstances, there's no reason for people with NPU ties to root for Carthage or North Central or Millikin against another CCIW football team. After all, why should they? They'd be even less likely to root for Illinois Wesleyan. But Wheaton? If you think that Vikings fans would ever find it in themselves to root for Wheaton for any reason for anything, unless it directly benefited a Vikings team, then you clearly know absolutely nothing about North Park.

We really, really, really don't like Wheaton College. At. All.

It seems that Elmhurst has been penalized by the NCAA for lack of institutional control, and unethical behavior by the Financial Aid Director with regard to the administration of monies specifically set aside with the provision that athletic participation was a requirement to be eligible for the scholarships. One scholarship was evidently earmarked for football and another for wrestling. The third scholarship was for athletes going into medical professions and could involve any number of other sports. Part of the penalties assessed were a fine, probation until 10/26/19, and vacation of some athletic victories.

The NCAA page mentions "donors' wishes" and pressure from the development office as part of the scheme.

Unfortunately, there are a few "issues"  that are plaguing the eastern Dupage County School.  A great, historic institution has some wrinkles to iron out.  Hopefully they get ironed out and out of hot water soon.

Wow.

A quarter century ago, right before the school closed, the Upsala College men's basketball program was given the NCAA death sentence for serious financial aid infractions, namely charging its players tuition and then making no attempt to get the players to pay up. Upsala was an ELCA college, the same as Augustana and Carthage, and the school North Park beat to win the 1980 NCAA title.

In Upsala's case it was proven that the infraction collusion went all the way to the presidents desk. I remember that the infraction report was a page and a half in agate type in the old NCAA newspaper.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.
