No 98 points for SJU today as NCC rides a great defensive effort to a 17-7 first round victory.

I still don't know how St Johns can look themselves in the mirror after shamelessly running up the score against a weaker opponent.  Today they played a strong opponent in North Central (even without their OPOY). Real winner here is karma.

We covered this at length back in week 1 when it happened.  SJU's starters were out early and they had something like 15 different guys run the ball in the game.  Sometimes you have to look at more than just the final score.  If you're not capable of doing that, it's a you problem, not an SJU problem.  FWIW, the UST blowout in week 11 was far more egregious running up the score than SJU's 98-0 in week 1.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Well, guys, it was 4 TDs alright, but the wrong way.  Titans go down 28-0.  CWRU was pretty tough, as I thought, and played better than our guys today in these very bad conditions.

Great season for the Green, finishing up at 9-2, co-CCIW champs.

Congrats to Coach Eash and all the team on a exciting, championship season.

IWU'70

Good luck to IWU football next season.   It looked like Case Western Reserve brought a little east side of Cleveland weather with them -- a fun game to watch today in the snowy conditions.

In all the years I've been watching IWU football, I've never seen weather like that.  Pouring rain in the 1st half, then what looked like a legit blizzard through halftime and into the 3rd Q.

For the most part, passing games were shut down.

The Spartans played very tough and smart.  The Titans were neither of those things today.

Same weather in Naperville today Titan.  Game was limited to battle of running games only.  Congratulations to IWU for a great season and memorable moments for the CCIW.

It was not the same weather in Bloomington and Naperville. Bloomington had blowing snow and you couldn't see the field. They were sweeping the yard lines at breaks with brooms. In Naperville there was snow, little accumulation, and wind/cold. Very different conditions.

Congrats to NCC on your win today.  You've got a nice team with a lot of talent.  It looked like there was a lot of on-field respect between the teams, which is good to see.  It's a shame that the weather factored in because I was looking forward to seeing Rutter and Erdmann slinging the ball.

In the end, the Johnnies inability to sustain drives doomed them.  It's been a problem all season, and NCC was too tough.

Good luck with the rest of your season!

Thank you DuffMan and congrats to the Johnnies on a great season.  We sat with a few members of the SJU faithful during the game and had a great conversation.  Game was certainly won and lost at the line of scrimmage given the wet and very windy conditions.  Would love to see a NCC v. SJU home and away OOC matchup over the next couple of years.  Would be great for both schools to have quality OOC opponents and a great experience.  Let's get our ADs on that!  Respect.

Can't wait to see how the Cardinals match up with UWO next week.  Praying for better weather so that that the Cardinals can open up the playbook a bit.  It will also be good to see BOTH Breunig and Muoghalu in the backfield against the Titans.

Sorry about that USee.  I was in Naperville, and the wind was blowing so hard from the north that there were almost no pass attempts.  Snow was coming down pretty hard for two quarters after lots of rain in the first quarter.  I assume you watched both games.  :P

Usee, I just checked National Weather Service website.  Bloomington experienced precipitation of .3 inches of precipitation with low wind chill of 22 degrees during their game, while Naperville experienced .2 inches with low wind chill of 21 degrees.  Both had wind between 20 and 25 mph with gusts 35+ mph.  IWU had more precipitation during their game, but wind and wind chill were the same.

Here is a tweet I made today with a quick video capture of the IWU/CWRU weather at the start of the 3rd Q...

I'm not sure how that compares to the Naperville weather today.

Thanks for the clip Titan.  Certainly, the snow was not sticking in Naperville as it was in Bloomington (thank God!!).  Wind and wind chill were similar.  That clip reminds me of the North Central v. UWW playoff game in Naperville a few years ago when they had to plow the field before the game and during halftime.

Yes!  It would be great for both programs.  Much better that some of the cupcakes SJU has been scheduling.

I walked out to my car in Bloomington/Normal and it was a bit of rain with some sleet.  Not 2 minutes later there were snowflakes that looked actually painful.  Stayed inside.

D O.C.

Saturday night hot cocoa and early to bed for both NCC & SJU.
Thanks for the entertainment.

Agree and disagree from both sides.   The NCAA selection process makes it pretty difficult to schedule a non conference game like that.   One of these two teams would take a loss into conference play.  Now there's no margin for error and you must sweep the rest of your games to get to the playoffs since it was pretty clear that two loss teams don't get in.  With St. Thomas on your schedule and Wheaton, Illinois Wesleyan, etc on our schedule, it just doesn't make sense, even if we would all love to see it.

Absolutely correct sir.  I having been saying it for years.  With the selection process as it is, we are better off playing a nine game schedule than scheduling a tough out of conference opponent.
With WashU joining the CCIW, I would love to see NCC dump the non-conference game and have two bye weeks to stay healthy for the playoffs.

By getting to the second round we are playing our 12th game this season.  If we can somehow find a way to win, game 13 is on the horizon.  How many games does a D3 football team need?

Karma has nothing to do with it.  You obviously know nothing about the basics of Buddhism.

Kovo, you and I have been having this debate for years.  I certainly understand your point of view, but the primary reason #6 SJU was on the road with only one three point loss to the #4 team in the country is that they had a weak out of conference schedule.  I know that University of Wisconsin is in DI, but they are struggling to crack into the Top 4.  Schedule matters.  North Central is good enough to compete with every other school in the country.  It should not be concerned about home and aways against Top 20 competition.  A win in those games along with an 8-1 conference record assures them of strong playoff consideration.  The worst case scenario is a key injury in one of those games (e.g., Wenger at ONU), but that could just as easily happen when playing weak competitors.  The debate continues.  Would love to get you here for a playoff game yet this fall.

Fifteen is a good number. :)  Doesn't seem to hurt the purple powers each year...
