D3Football.com  pre-season poll is up.

NCC is 7th, Wheaton is 18th, IWU is 21st, and Millikin scored 3 points in the ORV.

Interesting. Definitely not the order I have for CCIW top 4 based on who is returning for these teams and their relative schedules.

I am working on my season analysis now. If anyone has any info on their team (or others) PM me. Stuff like 5th year seniors, NCC QB not returning, etc.

I'll have some projections out next week some time I would guess. When football goes to the the top of the D3Boards it's happy time!

Maybe of some interest on this board, although not football related, - Drew Pershing, a soon to be senior at Illinois Wesleyan just qualified to play in the U. S. Amateur at Pebble Beach starting August 13.

The plan the NCC staff developed to keep that bit of news under wraps until closer to the beginning of the season seemed pretty solid.  :-X
I'm very surprised that word leaked out that the Cardinals will be looking for a new starting QB this season.  :o

Well, if that information had been provided to us, we'd probably have some different results in our voting, but North Central said Broc Rutter was returning in its preseason questionnaire, so there isn't much we can do about that.  >:(

I actually don't think this is too bad for a pre-season poll.  I was expecting Wheaton to be in the 12 to 15 range, but after the two disappointing losses last season, I don't think that 18 is too bad.  I was a little surprised with Millikin receiving votes.  Millikin hasn't been too competitive since the early days of d3football.com, so it would be interesting to know where those votes were coming from.  With their season last year, they do appear to be up and coming. It probably shouldn't be this way, but with a preseason poll there's not really an effective way to judge the prospects of this season, without including data from last year, especially when there is not yet any data from this season.

Even though the grass in my front yard is like straw, and the dog refuses to go outside because it's too hot, you can still imagine the crispness in the air and the changing of the leaves when the time starts getting close for more intensive football discussion.  Less than a month until most camps begin I believe.

For the record, my comment on the NCC QB was wishful thinking. I am certain he will be back.

Millikin receiving votes is right. They have 18 starters back including 10 on offense (lose 1 OL) from the #1 passing team in the league. If they make more progress on defense with 8 returning starters they are going to be a top 25 team this year.

Your post and AndOne's response really seemed to suggest otherwise.

I can't speak for AndOne but my post was definitely wishful thinking. If I ended up being right (I think AO was going with it fyi) than I was more lucky than good.

FWIW, NCC has their 2018 roster online and he is on there.

I may have missed it but it appears NCC settled on Shane Dierking as their DC after the departure of former DC Mike Murray to Robert Morris.

I have it on good authority that Rutter is definitely out because Jalen Hurts from Alabama is transferring to NCC.  ::)  Of course my source is with Russian Intelligence and has been focused on other matters.
