I don't think the Miilikin broadcast team had too much to joke about last weekend.

I don't know if they're doing road games this season. Sometimes the radio station that broadcasts MU football games sends a crew to Chicago when Millikin is at North Park, sometimes it doesn't. You'd have to ask Brett Marhanka if the Big Blue had its own broadcasters last week at McCully. Or perhaps USee knows.

The league actually contacted Ron Planz and apologized for some of the on-field officiating events.

I'm not going to jump on the officials soapbox, they are human, we are D-III, and there is the certain level of human input/error that is in play each and every week.    What IMO the Jays should focus on is controlling what they can control, finishing off drives,  and putting away an opponent when given the chance.

Carthage is going to be a tall order. Well, ah,  every team from here on out is going to be a tall order, with EC most likely the underdog.  Hence,  need to execute and play clean football.

There is a really neat upcoming event at Langhorst Field when the Jays take on Wash U.  It's their Pink game for Breast Cancer Awareness.   Elmhurst has a "real men wear pink" initiative going on.  Doing good in the hood.   :)

Question from totally out in left field:  Is there an "official" pronunciation for that sea to the southeast of us:

   1.  CARE uh be un
   2,  Ca RIB ee un

I confess to using them pretty interchangeably: as a noun standing alone it is usually #1, as an adjective generally #2, but I'm not real consistent.  Just wondering if I am sometimes 'right' and sometimes 'wrong'. or is it simply arbitrary?

I'm betting this group of scholars can say (or confuse this issue even further!) ;)

Ypsi, I will gladly take a trip down there (all expenses paid by you, of course) to verify this.

Sorry, but despite what Gregory says, sometimes I prefer to do my own research! ;D

Anything else we can help you with, Chuck? The circumference of the Earth? The proper spelling of ratatouille? The lyrics to "Wooly Bully"? ;)

Congratulations to Illinois Wesleyan! 😏

Why don't you just enjoy the Little Brass Bell rivalry game for what it is?  It's one of the best D-III Traveling Trophies around along with the Cortaca Jug, Monon Bell, etc.   Yes, the LBB winner has likely been the CCIW champ the last few years, but that doesn't tarnish the importance, history, fun, and rivalry of the game.

Elmhurst at one point was like 49-3-1 in favor of Augie with their last win coming in 1979.  The Jays have been able to put together a few more wins, but this was a series dominated by Vikes for years.     On the flip side,  the Elmhurst/NC matchup *used to be* pretty close, until NC has won I don't know how many in a row... (too many  :P  )

I was actually curious about this myself and looked it up the other day! NCC currently has 20 wins in a row over the Jays. If they manage to get another this season, that will make 21. My junior year, we snapped a 23 year win streak that Augie had over us. We knew about that streak going into the game. I remember being in awe of the fact that nobody on the team was alive the last time NCC had beaten Augie.
I am a NATIONAL Champion, and I refuse to lose!

Um, how exactly does this qualify as 'doing my own research'?  It smells to me like a regular Ypsi, but broadcast with more bandwidth so the entire board rather than one or two posters does the research for you.   :)

I was talking about going to the Caribbean to research the pronunciation. ;D

The original pronunciation question was just idle chatter, which did produce some posting during an otherwise down time with little to talk about except some alleged wee little bell, or some such! ::)

Not alive?!  Indeed.  My freshman year we were preparing to go to Augie and the point of emphasis by the seniors and juniors was that we had beaten them last trip.  Little did we know that  win in 1980 would be their last CCIW loss until 1988.  But, how many of you knew that NCC handled Augie their last loss (at home no less), before they went on their great run?

We actually were confident we were going to win that game.  Only year we made that mistake.

All of this is interesting, but didn't we agree that the Board would be entirely devoted to the LBB game this week?  ??? I wonder when the picture of the Bell will be featured on the opening page of D3.com?  Preferably with NCC lifting it high into the evening sky.  ;D

21 (most likely) this year?   ???     And to think North Central was one of the few games we circled as possible W when we were at EC.  I think a 6-0 win is the last win for Elmhurst.

Streaks like this can often be mental too.   Late in the game you start to play not to lose, rather than play to win, and that tentativeness can cost you.

Count your blessings, Mark. NPU's losing streak against North Central is now at 23, and it's not even the Park's longest remaining CCIW losing streak. That would be against that other DuPage County school, the school that every North Park sports team wants to beat the most. Alas, the football program hasn't beaten that school in 38 years -- and I have little doubt that it will become 39 a week from this Saturday.

But I'm counting my blessings, too. North Park no longer has any long losing streaks against anybody else in CCIW football, including Carroll and Wash U, thanks to Mike Conway. (Well, Scott Pethtel was coach when NPU beat Wash U earlier this decade, but since the Vikings have only faced the Bears twice on the gridiron it's hardly worth mentioning. This Saturday's game at Hedstrand Field is actually the third in a series that now sits at 1-1.)

Agree Greg.  Elmhurst has been competitive of late vs. Augie and Millikin (2 of the 4 that were no way/no how back in the day).  North Central is frustrating because EC/NC used to be pretty comparable.
