Meanwhile,  while the rest of the world passes Elmhurst up and we continue to tailspin into oblivion,  a very compelling game at Carthage.
I didn't expect Elmhurst to win, and figured they would struggle vs. the Carthage defense,  but where's the heart?  Where's the pride for the jersey/school?   IMO, seems like there is no spunk from the Jays.

I hope Elmhurst can find some pride and resurgence this week and give the Bears a decent fight.

Sorry to say this, Mark, but it appears to me that Wash U is capable of putting up even bigger offensive numbers than Carthage did -- especially if the Bears get their best receiver, Jason Singer, back. He didn't play against NPU, and QB Johnny Davidson still piled up enough passing yardage to make the d3football.com Team of the Week.

For the record, I totally get why people on both sides of that game thought that penalty was bad.  It is definitely subjective on the part of the official that made the call about whether or not the contact was illegal and whether it was severe enough to be labeled flagrant and carry a penalty of disqualification.

Here you go, GS.

I'm not an official and never have been, but it sounds like the conclusion is that the hit may not have been illegal but some feel it was unnecessary, so wouldn't unnecessary roughness be a garden variety 15 yard penalty?  And yes, that is in the opinion of the official but don't most penalties involve some judgment---other than some pre snap penalties?

I have no clue how to copy and paste a gif or else I would. Sorry GS.

If the official wanted to give a 15 yd penalty for unnecessary roughness that's fine, it certainly is subjective. Fox hit him and hit him hard (below the shoulder and above the knee, with his shoulder)  and he blew up the play as Kamienski was the primary receiver. To throw a guy out of the game requires a much higher level of conviction and is at odds with similar hits on special teams in the same game. {insert gif here}

Yes Greg,   I don't see the downhill snowball easing up any time soon.  Somebody has to step up, lead this team, and stop the bleeding.

Having watched NCC rise from the ashes, I can tell you it starts with a President who wants to win.  In 1991 NCC installed a new President, a new coach was hired in 1993 and failed (in 1992 NCC went 1-7-1).  In 1998 a new coach was hired---and failed.  In 2002 JT was hired so 11 years after the new President committed to winning we had the right coach.  The final piece of the puzzle came in 2005 the Jim Miller was hired as AD (Jim had been head wrestling coach and assistant football coach for 16 years).  That year we make the playoffs for the first time and have had sustained success.

IMHO you need all three, President, AD and Coach.  Once the President who wanted to in was in place it only took us 14 years to get to the playoffs.  An overnight success.  Oh, I almost forgot about the tremendous fund raising that took place, a timely flood, and Soldier's Field renovation that helped put all of the pieces in place to upgrade the facilities.

Sorry for the boring history lesson but my point is that I don't think there is a quick fix.

All true, but a quicker fix for Elmhurst would be finding (and recruiting) the clone of Scottie Williams! ::)

IMO,  the problem is not the President.  Van Aiken from what I have seen and heard, is committed to helping the Jays athletics soar.   I have my thoughts on where the problem (or insufficiencies) arise from.  Some of it is on the field, some off.

Anyway,  there are plenty of games left this season to rise up and try to make a statement.  Coaching makes a world of difference!  WC/IWU/NC  all have great coaches, whether you agree with stormin' Norman or not, he is an excellent leader,   and you can see the success these schools have had under their guidance.

Having the President on board is a big first step.  Now he needs the right AD and Coach.  Dr. Wilde had four coaches in his first 11 years at NCC.  I don't think that you can be very patient.  Thank goodness (for NCC) he found the right guy.  If you have the right coach the on the field issues will take care of themselves.  The AD is a key to sustaining the success.

Elmhurst would appear to have many of the advantages that NCC enjoys.  I don't think an Elmhurst uprising is any more far fetched than NCC becoming one of the teams to beat.  The story with Thorne when he was originally hired is that a number of his colleagues in the coaching profession called him to try and talk him out of the job since it would wreck his reputation.  I'm glad he didn't listen.  I'm not sure Elmhurst has reached that point.

Kovo- Very true and unfortunately there are some deficiencies in the "Cabinet" that are being exposed.  Instead of soaring and reaching that 6+ win season(s),  I see a disturbing trend for Elmhurst, resorting back to that 2 or 3 win regime. I thought that was put to bed a long time ago.

I expect the IWU-CC games to be the next big test for the TITANS.  Carthage has been playing well, ripping up everyone in sight.  Perhaps they are better, stronger than UWLax.  We'll see.  IWU better be ready -- esp. to overcome the inevitable distractions of Homecoming week and weekend.  The IWU D and special teams have to play better.  I expect a close hard-fought game, a very physical game with many battles in the trenches.  My prediction:   IWU 24, CC 20.

And my friend, IWU Alumnus Wayne Messmer,   is (as far as I know) scheduled to do the anthem prior to the game?   What a treat!

This is a huge game as it's Carthage first game against the conference top 3. I think this game will be close. The big question for me is whether Carthage can cover those two big dog WR's in their pressure defense. If they can, they have a chance. IWU leads the league in 3rd down conversion, Carthage leads the league in 3rd down defense. Something has to give. I see this as somewhere between a pickem and IWU -3 at worst.
