Highlight and lowlight from today's game in Wheaton:

Lowlight: Carthage HC calling timeout with 13 seconds left in the game, down 55-0 with a 4th down at the Wheaton 6 yd line. Carthage had their 1st team offense in against Wheaton's 3rd team defense and the Carthage offense scored, which was their only highlight on a day they were completely dominated.

Highlight: Wheaton Senior QB Dave Beamer, son of "Let's Roll" Todd Beamer (his father from flight #93 on 9/11 who led the passenger revolt) scoring a rushing TD on senior day with his mom and family in the stands. The sign "Let's Roll" is on the door leading from the Wheaton locker room and every player slaps it on the way to the field. Great moment for Dave and his family.

This is incredible.   Would've loved to see this!

Thanks, Mugsy!   Very emotional I'm sure.

As I said several times this past week (on various threads), it all depends on which Titan team shows up.  If it's the first half team (which trailed Millikin 12-7), it will get VERY ugly very early; if it's the second-half team (which beat Millikin 33-0), we've got a puncher's chance of the upset.  Unless NCC is even better than I think they are (we each lost to Wheaton by 14 points ;)), alas it was the first-half Titans that traveled to Naperville.

I'm assuming you are a lock for pool C.  May the Cardinals and Thunder both have deep runs to rep the CCIW well. ;D

Thank you, Mr. Ypsi!  I'm not sure a lock would be the case.  Wash U losing cost us and Wheaton a win over a regionally ranked team.  Wheaton deserves to be a 1 seed.   NCC deserves a spot in the playoffs with a win at Millikin.  We will see what happens next week.

Guys, guys, guys.  Deep breath.

North Central was ranked #3 in the North Region last week without the help of WashU (vRROs were not part of the data used for ranking last week) and they'll be ranked #3 in this week's RRs, also without the help of WashU.

Clarification: North Central did not get vRRO credit for their win over WashU in the first set of rankings.  They will get vRRO credit for beating WashU this week as the vRRO data used for this week's rankings will have come from the first set.  For the final set of rankings, North Central will likely not get vRRO credit for beating WashU- unless the bottom half this coming Wednesday's North rankings take a beating in Week 11 and create room for a 7-3 WashU team.  Crystal clear, right?

It's a grasping-at-straws kind of thing to advocate for something as relatively meaningless as a CCIW Player of the Week award at the end of a frustrating season, but NPU's Gary Anish, playing his last game on his home field, truly deserves this week's DPOW award. He had nine tackles, 1.5 TFL, half a sack, an interception, recovered two fumbles, and forced another fumble today. That's a nice day's work, and this week he has the most important criterion for POW consideration -- his team won.

That is one well rounded defensive stat line.

Being first pool c in the North is not the issue. Getting selected based on the criteria amongst the others is the issue. In Wally's mock selection NCC was the 3rd of 5 teams picked, despite being at the table first. If Hobart gets ranked in the east and with Wartburg joining the West party, the room is a little more crowded. I feel good about NCC getting in. Certainly they are one of the top 10 teams in the country, but that doesn't mean the criteria will dictate their selection. Unfortunately, those are two very different things.

NCC should also be cheering for Coe (vs Central), Loras (vs Wartburg), UST (vs Bethel), and Ithaca (vs Cortland). I think NCC is in, and not the final pick. But breathing room on Sunday is nice and all but Loras beating Wartburg are essentially pickem games.

Bethel and NCC should also both be cheering for UWW over UWO. NCC also cheering for Monmouth over SNC (slight boost to SOS via Wheaton)

I don't think it matters that much in the end, but If I'm NCC I want the Norbs to deliver a third loss to Monmouth and make sure they don't wind up ranked and counting as a vRRO win for Wartburg.   That's much better for them than the .003 contribution to SOS via OOWP that happens if Monmouth is a ranked team for somebody else at the Pool C table.

I don't see a better stat line in the conference this weekend. He has my vote!

Agreed Wally. I think we both cheer for UWW, Coe, and SNC. That's the order of likely wins on Saturday as well IMO. I'll forgive NCC for cheering for UST too (hopefully those cheers are as impotent as mine were for IWU on saturday) :)
