Real question: If you are Wheaton, would you even want to see North Central again in the Stagg Bowl? On one hand, you've beaten them once already, and are 4-1 against Rutter as the starting QB. But on the other, parallels to 2017, where NCC beat Wheaton (Rutter's only win over the Thunder) and then the Thunder came back and beat them the next time around. They do say it's hard to beat a good team twice. Ideally for Wheaton, someone else would knock off the Cardinals as they take care of business on their end. Also, if it did end up with the two of them in the Stagg, does Swider put the Bell on the line? I recall Thorne would not put it up for the playoff game. Thoughts?

I for one would be thrilled to play NCC again because that means we won the next 2 and made it to the Stagg. There is no statistical validity to the wives tale of beating a good team twice. It stems from the idea if you have a 50% chance to beat a team and play them twice the expected result is 1-1. But if you flip a coin 2x you could easily get 2 heads as often as you get 2 tails. So if these two play again, the percentages will be what they are and the first matchup has nothing to do with it, statistically speaking. Probably a pickem game if it happens

I wouldn't put the Bell up. Its a regular season game trophy. They lost, we won. See you in Naperville next year.

Completely agree on the Bell!  We can take it back at home next year!   ;D   ;)

I'll gladly let them keep the Bell and we will take the Stagg trophy this year. Deal? Deal.

Wheaton plays St Johns sat. One game at a time. You win you move on to the next opponent.  That's it nothing more. Always have your hands full with the opponent your playing.

Sadly, whatever I do will have ZERO impact on the outcome of the game on Saturday.  So I have the luxury of looking ahead.

So it's just like when you played?   :P

You would know, you were sitting on the bench next to me.
When I played real option football at Tinley Park in the 70's we learned many things that are advantageous to football and life in general.
1. Never look ahead.  While no one can keep this 100% during the important things this will serve a person well.
2. Always give your best even and especially against the weakest opponent.  Half effort can become a habit.  On the field fight for one more yard, inch, blade of grass until the whistle blows.
3. keep positive it will become catchy.  The way I talk to my teammates effects the whole team.  Especially during a game.  Nearly every time I said or had said to me "I'm doing this and this you will be able to do that that's what happened eventually.  That was to a running back as an o lineman or on defense as a tackle or linebacker.
These things can be used in life too.
If I look ahead and start talking this and that especially if it is something very interesting it can plant a seed which can plant another seed on and on.   That can have disastrous consequences in life when you think you have an easy path overlook something important with your present endeavor.

I completely agree that those are excellent words to live by - in life and in football!  But we are all just spectators here.  I don't take any of this too seriously.

I think it is fair to say that many of us are excited by how our teams have performed this season and that we are still in the "hunt".  I see no harm in talking about all the hypothetical situations that could unfold in the next few weeks.  What's the worst that could happen?  Be disappointed if our team loses?  I can deal with that....

Mr. Ypsi

Not My Nachos,

That is NOT what his board is about, but like any group, there's always at least one bad apple.  Ignore the A'hole.  There is a lot of hostility towards Norm (as a Titan I don't really understand why), but most do also respect him as a coach, even if they bristle at some of what he says.  (And as for that specific quote, I very much doubt that even coach Thorne thought they were 69-14 better - some games just get out of hand.  NCC was obviously better, but 69-14 - no way!)

Not My Nachos

Going to NCC...sorry. I really looking forward to seeing the NCC story continue, which it should!

Which visitor stands? There are 2 games in the area Saturday. And you should sit on the home side at either one.

I don't think its illegal to share PM contents  or I know about 50 posters who should be ejected.

Wrong choice. IWU and now NCC? You are trying really hard not to be liked.

IS THE FOLLOWING AN INITIATION JOKE FOR THIS THREAD?  IS THIS WHAT THIS BOARD IS ABOUT?

I get this unsolicited crap message from a guy on this board. Now, I guess I get thrown off as he states?

If you were under the impression that Norm Esch is a "class act" you were sold a bill of (defective) goods. He is generally loathed by the other coaching staffs and fans of all the other conference teams.
After IWU was taken apart 69-14 by NCC Esch said "I didn't think they were 69-14 better." He never gives any other teams credit. You can choose not to believe this but if you don't, check out the comments by several fans of several different conference teams on pages 2583-2584.
Not sure what led you to believe he is high class, but that impression is not shared by many outside of Bloomington.

Additionally, since you're new to the board you might not know it's against the terms of service to post any info that is told to you in a private message from any other poster without their permission. Doing so will get you banned from posting.

Good luck to your son at IWU.

Are you joking with this message?  Seriously....
Read what you wrote.  Guess what, Coach Eash was right.  But you take that as not being classy?  Should Coach Eash have built a shrine for Thorne?

Getting banned from having idiots message me with crap like this would be a blessing.  What a cowardly way to talk about someone.

I'll be in the visitors stands Saturday with my son...come say Hi.

St Johns @ Wheaton 12:00 Central

Wheaton has built their resume this year by playing high level defense that stops the run, creates havoc for offensive linemen, and doesn't give up the big play on the back end. That with an offense that has a strong running game and one of the nations leaders in efficiency passing the ball in Luke Anthony. I believe the gameplan will be to establish a running game, run play action and use the multiple Wheaton WR to strike deep when they get the opportunity. On defense they will protect from giving up big pass plays and try to control the LOS with their front 4.

Wheaton will be challenged in ways they haven't been by St Johns this Saturday. The Johnnies have reigning Gagliardi winner Jackson Erdman at the helm of the #4 ranked offense. Erdman is well known (just visit the MIAC board if that's not clear) but more imporantly they have All MIAC Lineman of the year Ben Bartch at Left Tackle. The 6-6 305 lb Senior has already been invited to the Senior Bowl (reserved mostly for top D1 players) and is an NFL prospect. I have seen this kid play a lot this year and he is every bit as good as his hype. Haven't seen a more dominant OL this side of Sharmore Clarke. He's not alone on that line as right guard Dan Greenheck is a 6-2, 275 lb Senior and 2x D3.com AA and Jr Center Nick Newmann who is a 2x 1st team All MIAC player. The WR core is deep and their acheivements well documented (2 1,000+ WR).

Defensively they are #23 nationally and 8 of their 11 received all MIAC honors and are led by Jr OLB Danny Petruszewski (57 tckles, 14.5 tfl, 8 sacks). The secondary has 2 all conference Srs with 2 Sophomores. They run a 3-4 front and do a great job running to the ball. CB Chris Harris has 7 INT's. This defense held Bethel scoreless and St Thomas (who was top 5 offensively) to just 3 scores.

St Johns is about 50/50 run vs pass But Erdman wants to throw the ball deep and will do so many times each game with deadly accuracy. Their 3 RB's have combined for over 1,200 yds on the ground and almost 6 yds a carry. You don't do that if you aren't good up front.

Overall this will be a game you would expect in the quarterfinals, a battle between two teams that both feel like teams of destiny and think this game is what they have worked all season for. In this battle of wills with a plethora of elite skill players on both sides, I believe this game will be won up front by the team that can control the LOS. The Johnnies accomplished Oline vs the heralded front 4 for the Thunder (if you don't believe me also check the MIAC board) will be in a war. The Wheaton OLine with 3 All conference Linemen and probably at least 1 AA, will have their hands full with a veteran Defensive front stacked with 4 All MIAC LB's.

Fans who watch this one will be in for a treat of D3 football at the highest level. I tend to think it will be lower scoring but most know that's because I fancy defense (I called for a low scoring game in Alliance last Saturday).

Looking forward to a great game.

There ain't enough room for two washdupcards in this town. Impostoré!!

Agreed.  I'll see if I can figure out how to switch.  Or maybe Pat can DM me the instructions...

You can DM me and I'll post it for everyone to see and maybe help

Which visitor stands? There are 2 games in the area Saturday. And you should sit on the home side at either one.

I don't think its illegal to share PM contents  or I know about 50 posters who should be ejected.

U,

FWIW, I my be misreading things, but I've always been under the impression that the following applies with regard to PMs.........

Under Terms of Service, #9

E-mails and private messages between board members are not to be quoted on the board without the permission of the sender.

Often times, including this one as there seems to be long term general agreement regarding the subject Coach, its not really a big deal. But, technically, it does appear that such a rule is on the books. When I started I wasn't aware of it either until another poster advised me. Oh well.

It was super nice of you to advise him though.

"Additionally, since you're new to the board you might not know it's against the terms of service to post any info that is told to you in a private message from any other poster without their permission. Doing so will get you banned from posting."

Top preview.
