With the inclusion of Wash U and Carroll, the CCIW does not need a noncompetitive program like North Park.  Grant an exemption just like one was given to affiliate member, Wash U.

Never, ever gonna happen -- even if NPU asked for an exemption (which it won't).

Nobody in this league would ever agree to set that precedent. Wheaton already tried and failed two decades ago when it wanted to drop baseball. This isn't the MIAC, and North Park is not Macalester.

I have no idea what you meant by Wash U being "granted an exemption," but Wash U isn't really relevant to this conversation, anyway. Wash U is an associate member of the league, not a full member, and thus is not bound by the strictures of the required-sports section of the CCIW constitution and bylaws.

If the Vikings were allowed to opt out of the CCIW for football, then this would be the window of opportunity for it to happen, since the addition of St. Norbert means that the NACC will have to add an unbalancing ninth program to its football schedule and might thus be willing to add a balancing tenth program as well. But this is a life-on-Mars hypothetical, because North Park wouldn't be allowed to opt out even if it asked to do so.

Also, North Park has the largest proportional disparity between undergraduate enrollment and athletic participation I have ever seen, regardless of divisional level.

Athletes at Illinois College make up something like 40 percent of the enrollment.

I'm pretty sure that Carthage, Illinois Wesleyan, and Millikin all have higher proportions of student-athletes per full-time undergraduate enrollment than does North Park. And I'm also pretty sure that Carroll's and Elmhurst's proportions are lower than NPU's.

I should have said between the genders.  I see how my statement was misinterpreted.  I am talking about CFR 106.41.

I believe that Millikin normally has a freshman enrollment of 50-60% athletes

Wheaton released their list of 40 newcomers for the upcoming season, complete with sizes and video links: https://athletics.wheaton.edu/news/2021/6/2/football-the-thunder-football-program-announces-40-newcomers-for-the-2021-season.aspx

Of particular not is Matthew Bunnel, transfer from D3 Saddleback College. He has experience and size to step into a top 5 defense right away as an impact DE/OLB

With a large majority of the seniors and 5th year guys from 2019 returning (17 returning starters), the Thunder should be very good this fall.

Saddleback isn't D3. It's a public juco.

Yeah. I actually knew that and fat fingered my post. Didn't mean to type D3. Getting old.....

It happens.

Next Man Up

Behind Mt. Union and Whitewater, North Central is ranked #3 pre-season by Lindy's Sports Annuals. Sounds like reason for a high level of excitement on the part of Cardinals fans. Of course we all the value of a high pre-season ranking, especially from such an esteemed publication as Lindy's.  ;)

While the Cards do have a formidable collection of talent returning, especially considering the number of senior stalwarts coming back after a Covid year, it seems a black hole exists at the QB position, where any truly elite team must receive stellar play. Right now, the only QB appearing on the NCC roster is Soph Jake Johnson. In mop-up duty in 2019, he completed 17 of 33 passes for 231 yards and 3 TDs, and ran 16 times for 129 yards and 3 more TDs. Is he the answer? Fans can hope so but, as in the Rutter case, it wouldn't be at all surprising to see a D1 transfer taking the opening snap of the 2021 season. In fact, it wouldn't be surprising if the upcoming season's starting Cardinal QB wasn't even enrolled at NCC when the 2020-2021 school year ended last month. We'll see.

Surprisingly, no other CCIW team received mention. Interesting times ahead for sure.
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

Don't surround yourself with yourself. 🧍🏼‍♂️(Yes)

Not surprising at all that no other CCIW teams were mentioned. The omission of Wheaton, who returns a loaded team including their QB tells you Lindy does no research (which we all knew). The D3.Com poll will be much more informed, as usual. I wouldn't pay attention to a single name on the Lindy ranking, it's meaningless.

Completely agree.  Wheaton is a top 5 team. What a joke they're not mentioned.
