Just for fun, I looked up Rutter's first game in a Cardinal uniform (9/3/2016 vs. Robert Morris)...  16 of 26 for 288 and 4 TD's with 1 INT.
Nice fun fact WashedUp.  What was Rutter's record against the Crusaders?

So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

I was impressed not only with NCCs talent at the skill positions but the overall team speed on Defense,  AU was running for their lives all night !  Next week will be fun

Looks like my wondering if the Aurora has played a game NCC has not and if it would make a difference was extremely foolhardy. Should have known. My bad guys.

I'll admit it, I stopped watching. When did the backups start appearing? Granted, it might be a bit harder to say for certain skill positions is a "backup" since this was the first game and the rotation isn't completely clear to the fans yet.

The 4th quarter was mainly non starters in the game for NCC.  2nd offense fumbled deep in our own territory giving AU the ball at our 5, which resulted in their only TD.

As irrelevant as his statistics against Robert Morris on 9/3/2016.

Big win for Carroll yesterday, the overlooked of the two games.  Not a great day for the NACC vs CCIW.  Either Carroll has improved the run defense or Benedictine got pass happy, either way low number of penalties and a balanced attack proved to be the answer in the second half.

As for the butt kicking, Bebbe couldn't have asked for a worse result for the future of his program.  Wheaton has it's niche with nationwide recruiting and the Thornes have been cleaning up the suburbs for a while now.  For Aurora to make the next step, he had to prove he could compete to draw them away.   The story of the game was on both lines and as previously stated, the team speed.  The Cards dominated both lines and were able to just toy with the Spartans by rotating players and spreading the wealth.  They appeared to have very confident, capable 2-deep players at every position.

And finally, Cam Moore.  Was #2 receiver with Cards in 2018 and had bright future.  Leaves for greener pastures and is a kick returner only?  Not one catch?  If non-football decisions were involved in the change and he is happy, good for him and his family.  But if it was PT based, not a good move.

Ah yes but what was his record in National Title games?
You win! You always do!

Why are two consecutive Little Brass Bell games being played at Wheaton? And why is the game being played so early in the season?

I can't imagine the Monon Bell game being played in September. And do you think either DePauw or Wabash would allow the game to be played at the same school two consecutive times?

That is the only stat that really matters!  Really looking forward to seeing if the boys can bring the Bell home this weekend though.

2020 game wasn't played. That was scheduled at NCC. Assuming the conference left games as scheduled.  It really doesn't matter....other than lack of seating. These two teams get after each other no matter the stadium.

Can't address the reason why the game is being played in Wheaton for two consecutive seasons.  I know that Augie is playing at NCC, Wheaton, IWU and Carthage, just like the did in 2019 so it's not like there aren't other teams having the same thing happen.  As to why the game is being played early in the season, it's because, outside of the Wheaton and NCC communities, the Little Brass Bell is not that well known of a rivalry game.  It's only really become more important in the 15 years (or so), when NCC's ascension to consistently being at the top of the CCIW, began.  Football has been played in the CCIW for a lot longer than that.  NCC won the conference title in 1960 and didn't win again until 2006.  Starting from that same 1960 season, Wheaton did not win a conference championship until 1995 and then won or were co-champions in 00, 02, 03, 04 and 06.  When I played in the 1980s, I had never heard of the Little Brass Bell.  Historically, it has just not been that important of game (outside of the participating schools) to warrant that it always be the last game of the season for both teams.

I believe some of the "skill" position subs started appearing in the 3rd quarter. The Cardinals wound up employing no less than 6 RBs with which might be considered, based on order of appearance and carries, the 3rd, 5th, and 6th string backs scoring running TDs.
It should be noted that this was by no means a case of the first teamers racking up the vast majority of NCC's points total.
