Today:

Augustana 38, How's It Going, Norm? 14 in Bloomington
Carroll 30, Elmhurst 28 at Langhorst
North Central 84, North Park 6 in Naperville
Wash U 37, Carthage 16 in Kenosha
Wheaton 49, Millikin 7 in America's most desired metropolis

Next up:
North Central - playoffs next week
Wheaton - likely playoffs next week; if not, a berth in the Isthmus Bowl
Wash U - Isthmus Bowl if Wheaton makes the tourney field.

UW-River Falls would seem to be the most likely Isthmus Bowl opponent depending on what happens with playoff berths for the WIAC.

For my once yearly post, I was in this 'most desired metropolis' today for an unrelated reason and randomly drove past the game.  Resisted the temptation to roll down the windows and scream 'Go Thunder' as I zoomed by.  Pretty much assumed they didn't need my help.

But today Decatur didn't smell like Decatur...so that's a huge plus.

Johnny Magic strikes again.  I would think Wheaton is a lock as pool C with today's results.

Yep, I would agree.

More or less all of the games that had things hanging in the balance were decided late late late today.

Unrelated, unless I misheard the commentary, I learned on the NCC broadcast today that Gregory was a standout on NPU's national championship basketball teams in the 80s.  :)

Lol did I make that part up? My bad. He's just so impressive in so many areas I don't doubt anything that the dark corners of my brain may or may not have attached to him. I should have stopped talking at that point but didn't think anyone would still be watching.   :P

I think you should just roll with it and create an alternate history that takes root.  Would be fun to watch the legend grow over time.

Does anybody have an audio clip of that? I'd like to send it to my mother to prove to her that I amounted to something.

Be sure to make her feel guilty for not coming to any of your games.

At least Norm can hang his hat on keeping the juggernaut Augie offense scoreless in the 3rd quarter.

Never get into a guilt contest with a woman who is not afraid to go nuclear by discussing in detail the travails she suffered in giving birth to you.

The subject of IWU football and spin brings up a funny anecdote I heard today. Some of us NPU types got into a discussion in the Holmgren Athletic Complex press box this afternoon with Carleton SID David Pape after the conclusion of the Carleton @ NPU D3 soccer tournament game. I happened to mention that NPU's sports information staff would have a hard time finding a silver lining in the wake of today's rout at NCC in the gamer for the NPU football webpage. David replied, "One year we were playing St. Thomas, and we took the opening kickoff and marched down the field, eventually kicking a field goal to go up, 3-0. The St. Thomas coach called his entire defense over and screamed at them for a few minutes, and the next thing you know we ended up losing, 80-3. So I headlined our gamer on the Carleton site, "Knights can't hang onto lead, lose to UST".

He said that he didn't mention until the final paragraph that the final score was 80-3 in favor of the Tommies.

I got a kick out of that.

Hats off to Jeff Thorne calling off the dogs against the North Park Virgins Vikings. I am happy NP is back to being NP.

How's the weather over there in the Land of Spin, Fletch?

No spin Auggie played well. On to the recruiting trail.

I am happy that Wheaton seemingly got their Pool C path cleared today. That said, I hope the committee keeps them on the opposite side of the bracket from NCC. I really don't want to see them again. Fair play if it's for the title.

Gotta be on the archived broadcast on NCC's website, right?

Norm: We were the best team on the field in the 3rd quarter today. We just didn't play our best football the other 3 quarters. Give Augustana credit, they played hard today. But if we had played our hardest the outcome is different.

The Pantagraph will run an article tomorrow reporting from Norm’s playoff pairing party awaiting IWU’s bid and the disbelief when they don’t get selected!

Are you taking Norm with you on the recruiting trail? Show him the ropes? Maybe teach him a few tricks of the trade?  :D
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

Don't surround yourself with yourself. 🧍🏼‍♂️(Yes)
