With Thorne leaving for Western Michigan to be its Offensive Coordinator, I am curious if any NCC players who have shown d-1 potential (DeAngelo Hardy comes to mind) will eventually hit the transfer portal and follow him?

Haven't seen or heard that at all.

FYI...
Cardinals open up on the road at Wabash in week 1.

Curious if Aurora didn't want to continue playing.

Wheaton toughened up their schedule by opening up on the road at Trinity University in San Antonio on week 2.

North Park is opening at home against Manchester in week one. It will mark the first time that the Vikings and Spartans have ever met on the gridiron.

With Coach Thorne leaving, does that mean we no longer have a current head coach in D3 that has won a D3 national championship as head coach?

Almost. Jay Locey, whose Linfield team won the 2004 national title, is head coach at Lewis & Clark.

And now there are none - https://www.lcpioneers.com/sports/fball/2021-22/releases/20220204bnhyj1

There are often questions about process when it comes to how the national committee works to rank regions, select teams, and bracket the field. Titan Q, on his Q-cast has hosted Basketball National Chair Mike Schauer 3x now and the transparancy into the process is unprecedented. I wish the football committee chair would follow Mike's lead in the future and provide this level of information. I encourage all football followers to watch this (and the other Q-casts on Youtube) as the process for basketball and football are very similar. The criterion and process are the same. The issues are the same, the way the committee evaluates teams at the bottom of the rankings and how the at large process works, all the same. Great insights here for any who are interested.

I've heard they are thinking 'outside the box' and don't plan to have a QB this year. ;)

Hi, all -- a couple of weeks ago, I had the chance to have a great sitdown with Brad Spencer to talk about the North Central program, etc. That interview runs a little longer than our typical offseason conversations but I hope it will be worth your time.

In addition, Greg and I tackle a couple of questions from frequent OAC poster MUC57 that help frame up the offseason conversation nicely.

According to Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act statements, which is public information submitted by the institution, here is the operating cost per football athlete, excluding salaries.
North Central  $2,462*
Millikin             1,940
Wash U            1,469
IWU                 1,289
Augustana        1,210
Carthage          1,124
NPU                 1,059
Wheaton             755
Elmhurst             595
Carroll                392

*North Central did not declare recruiting expenses.  Its caveat? "All costs are approved and budgeted through the Office of Admission."

I'm curious what goes into these costs. The Wheaton number surprises me.  Millikin has dropped a bunch of money into athletics recently so I could see them towards the top.

Wheaton has the largest endowment in the conference and they use that to hold down costs for students. That's probably a big factor here.
