Thunder fans in Pool C watch need to watch the following games this weekend:

Region 1:  Kings (8-1) at  Wilkes (6-3)
Region 2:  Johns Hopkins (8-1) vs McDaniel (3-6)
Region 3: Hardin-Simmons vs 4-5 Texas Lutheran (4-5)
Region 4: Albion (9-0) at Alma (9-0); John Carroll (7-2) vs Otterbien (2-7)
Region 5: Lake Forest (8-1) @ Chicago (7-2); Aurora (8-1) v Concordia, WI (8-1); Ripon (8-1) v Lawrence (0-9); WashU (7-2) at Carroll (6-3)
Region 6: Bethel (8-1) @ St Johns (8-1); UWL(8-1) vs UW Platteville (5-4)

Wheaton absolutely has to have WashU win this weekend and find their way into the rankings. Tough duty because there are only 7 ranked teams in each region (vs 8 last year). Without that RRO, Wheaton will be DOA on Sunday. Then I believe they have to have Chicago beat Lake Forest this weekend which would give the AQ to Monmouth and might allow a spot for WashU to sneak into the RR's.

A Wilkes loss would loosen the grip on a Pool C bid for a 2 loss team. A UWL loss makes them far from a lock for Pool C. The loser of the St Johns/Bethel matchup is going to have a stronger 2 loss resume than Wheaton most likely.

There are a bunch of other games that could (and likely will) impact Pool C. First thing is to find out how the Regional Committees order the teams. That comes out Wednesday afternoon. There are a bunch of other places on the boards this is being discussed and Pat and his team will be all over it (today's podcast, a Thursday podcast after the RR emerge), a projection on Friday, a projected field and bracket late Saturday.....all leading to the selection show Sunday afternoon.

If Carroll were to beat WashU, I expect the regional committee would look at moving the Pios into the final ranking at 7-3 as a way to bolster Wheaton's chances.  The Wheaties are clearly a top 10-15 team, but it is tough to be sitting there with two losses with only five dance cards available.

The Wash U-Carroll winner will have an SOS of just over .500. Hard to imagine that team getting into a seven-team ranking of Region 5.

There are a whole lot of issues in play here. Wally, in his column last week where he ranked the order of Region 5, has Ripon ahead of Wheaton. If that happens and Ripon doesn't win the AQ in MWC (which is the least likely outcome it appears (https://twitter.com/LogHanRatings/status/1589678551988830208/photo/1) then Wheaton is blocked and has no chance at ever getting to the table for a Pool C bid.

WashU is either gonna fall out of the regional rankings tomorrow (likely) or fall to 7th. The likely team to jump in is Monmouth at 7-2 and .539 (42nd). Monmouth is gonna finish 8-2 so there is no room for WashU  in the rankings if LF wins. Chicago HAS to beat LFC Saturday.

If Chicago beats Lake Forest, Using assumed results and HansenRatings proposed SOS numbers after this Saturdays Games, here are the SOS for the potential 7th team in the region:

Lake Forest 8-2 .498 (123)
Chicago 8-2 .489 (142nd)
WashU 8-2 .502 (117)

One of these teams will likely be the 7th team in the final regional rankings. Why wouldn't it be WashU?

Now, if Aurora loses to Concordia, WI or Coe beats Wartburg---Then Wally is gonna have a long night.

What am I missing?

Ripon lost a game since then, so that might change up that order.

Right, lost to Monmouth last Sat. Still, one of LF, Chicago or WashU has to be ranked 7th if LFC loses Saturday. I'm assuming Ripon stays ranked at 8-1 this week and will finish 9-1.

Regional Rankings are out and WashU stays ranked:

https://www.d3football.com/playoffs/2022/second-regional-ranking

1   North Central (IL) 9-0   9-0
2   Wartburg   9-0   9-0
3   Wheaton (IL)   7-2   7-2
4   Aurora   8-1   8-1
5   Monmouth (IL)   7-2   7-2
6   Ripon   8-1   8-1
7   WashU   7-2   7-2

Lake Forest gets bumped in favor of Monmouth despite winning 36-3 last week. Monmouth did pick up an RRO vs Ripon last week that improves their profile. Seems the 5 is favoring RRO's and SOS more than winning %

Huge for Wheaton to still have WashU rounding the region out. 1-2 vRRO will look way better than 0-2.

That's who's listed in the manual, so this looks correct.

Wilkes is doing Wheaton a big favor right now.  They're currently stomping King's.

Another game with big Pool C implications:

BW 14 MT Union 17 with 4 min left and BW driving. If BW wins, 3 way tie in OAC. If the tiebreaker favors BW or JCU, Mt Union steals a Pool C.
