Just throwing this out there.......does anyone know, or there a way to research the most dominant playoff run in d3 history?

not exactly what you are looking for but per Logan Hansen's model if NCC wins by 3 TDs they'll likely finish with the highest rating in the history of his model (started 1997). 2015 Mount Union currently has the highest rating.

Here's hoping that NCC will take Mount lightly and be somewhat over-confident. Possible?

I have been following Cardinal football for 20 or so years. During John Thorne's 1st year, he promised that the Cards would play and we would see exciting football. He sure kept his promise, didn't he? It has been a thrill watching this program grow and develop to what it is today! I can't put into words how proud I am of all the past and present Cardinal players!!!! Go get 'em Cards! Bring home the walnut and bronze!

In a Stagg Bowl? Against a team wearing purple with "Mount Union" on their uniforms? Dream on.

Face it, the Raiders are prisoners of their own reputation. That's the price you pay for a baker's dozen Walnut & Bronze trophies over the past three decades and the constant trumpeting about "the machine" by the UMU fanbase. For the foreseeable future the Raiders most likely will always get the best effort a November or December opponent has to offer. They've earned that expectation. Plus, it's unimaginable that players would do anything less than to step onto the field for a Stagg Bowl prepared to play the best game of their lives against a team that has earned their respect but not their fear.

NCC "take Mount lightly and be somewhat overconfident"? Not in this universe.

Yea, no chance anyone playing against Mt Union in the Stagg Bowl is under estimating them. Also, I am guessing last year's game vs MHB is also on the mind of many of these players. If they went into that game with any amount of overconfidence, they will know better this year.

Because that often happens when teams play Mount Union...

As a pre-Thorne era player, it is absolutely incredible to see them become one of the most dominant teams in the country. I remember games where we'd be lucky to score 7 points, and it just felt like we were completely overmatched.

Somewhat related, it's also one of the reasons that Brad Spencer is in many ways the perfect coach for NCC. Raised around the school and the program. First played pre-Thorne...played for Thorne...finished as all time leading receiver...worked his way up the coaching ladder...became instrumental in their continued success. He's experienced every facet of NCC football, and literally seen it all.  From getting dominated from the likes of Wheaton, Augie, IWU to dominating the CCIW over the last 12 years. Perhaps no person better personifies what it is to be a Cardinal and how far NCC has truly come. (Unless you count Cardalum's chain-gang work...that's the best he's performed on the field in 30+ years).

You are probably correct, but  one does not  know for sure.

Mount won the Stagg bowl, for three years running in 2000 ,2001, 2002. In 2003 they had an Oline the size of the Big Ten.
They were blowing every team away through the playoffs and were predicted to win the 4th title in a row.
However St. John's took it all in a 24-6 victory. :o

What does any of that have to do with North Central taking the Raiders lightly and being "somewhat overconfident"?

Cardinal Dad - I'm sure there would be lots of opinions on this and what NCC has done this year would surely rank right up there, if they finish it out this weekend by winning the Stagg Bowl.  MHB last year was pretty dominant during their run to the championship and teams like Mt Union and UWW have had those types of runs, as well.  One that is personal to me is the run that we had at Augie in the 1986 playoffs, which we finished off by winning our 4th Stagg Bowl in a row, something that no other team in D3 has been able to accomplish (although Mt Union has been close a couple of times).  Back then, it was only a 16 team field, so we played four games to win the championship.  We beat Hope in the first round 34-10 at Hope, played Mt Union in the second round at Mt Union and won 16-7.  Game was not as close as the score would indicate as we dominated defensively against the top ranked offense in D3, holding them to 170 yards total offense and only 15 yards in the 2nd half.  We kicked 3 FG's inside of Mt's 10 yard line to provide the winning margin.  In the semi's, we beat Concordia, MN 41-7, leading 41-0 at the half.  In the Stagg, we shut down the #2 ranked offense in the country in Salisbury State and won that game 31 -3.  On the defensive side of the ball, we played 4 games against some of the best offenses in the country and gave up a total of 27 points and an average of 42 yards rushing and 170 yards passing, per game.  We also recorded 16 interceptions and 4 fumble recoveries, averaging 5 TO's per game.  On the Offensive side, we did what we would typically do and just ground the opposing D's down with our rushing attack and dominated on TOP.  We even managed to throw for 112 yards in the Mt Union game, against a very good Mt Defense.

I'm certainly cheering for NCC this weekend to finish off the great run they are having this season and in the playoffs and to bring the National Championship back to the CCIW.  Go Cards!
