How much will pressure be put on Luke to throw, it seemed that Greenfield took a lot of the defense's attention, and now they can put more pressure on Luke? But I know he still has the best receiver in D3. It will be fun to watch.

Wayne ruby is the even better receiver in d3

Based on what? Wayne Ruby is an outstanding WR and so is DeAngelo Hardy. I'd say these guys are very close and it is completely subjective to say one is better than the other.

Ruby played in a 50/50 run-pass offense and had significantly more targets than Hardy, who played in a 70% run 30% pass offense with a Gagliardi RB. If you break down the stats per catch, they are very similar.

Hardy is a stud D3 WR, no doubt.  But it seems most non-NCC/MUC parties rank one higher than the other.  I bet neither one cares one bit about who is ranked higher, but only who holds up the walnut and bronze in Salem in December.

Hmmmm. 2 things: 1-I am not sure appearing on an arbitrary watchlist for the Senior Bowl means much. 2-I can assure you I am decidedly a "Non" NCC-MUC party. In fact I'd love a party without either of those teams.  8-)

Or a short year, depending on your point of view.  :P :P :P

I heard Olivet Nazarene (NAIA) and Wheaton were scrimmaging today or tonight. Did anyone watch? Would like to know how ONU, as a mid-level NAIA team matched up with a Top 10'ish D3 program.

I heard through a football parent that Wheaton was ahead 20-6 when they pulled their starters in the first half. At halftime, Wheaton was ahead 20-13 and by the end of the 5 quarters that they played during the scrimmage, ONU finished on top, 29-22 scoring the majority of their pts against Wheaton's 3rd and 4th string players.

Also heard it was a sloppy game because of the extreme humidity.

One big question answered was the QB play. Ben Thorson had a decent outing.

Thanks T-Dome21: I didn't think ONU would hang with Wheaton but also didn't expect them to embarrass themselves. Sounds about what I expected. Glad there is some inter-classification action.

Game notes for week 1 vs Roosevelt.  Hopefully a good test for the Cards in week 1.

For those who wallow in this sort of thing, North Central's two deep is in the notes that CardinalAlum posted.  Two observations:

1. Unsurprisingly, this is still a very very Illinois-centric roster.  The Cardinals' recent playoff success may mean the coaching staff is landing kids they weren't previously landing, but it has not led to an expanded geographic footprint.

2. Not surprisingly, there are only a few freshmen on the two deep coming into the first week, with only one WR and some special teamers starting the year atop the depth chart.

The WR section of that 2 deep makes me smile.  Of the 4 starters, only Hardy was healthy the entire back half of last year including the playoffs.  Also interesting to note that the young Rummell shows that he has worked his way into a starting role.

Wheaton's season preview is out: https://athletics.wheaton.edu/news/2023/8/30/2023-wheaton-football-season-preview.aspx

Appreciate Coach Scott's straight forward comments: "Part of the hard work in our reset was being honest in our evaluation as a team of who we were a year ago and looking at what our strengths were, but more importantly addressing areas of opportunity in our approach" And "Where we are programmatically is that 8-3 isn't good enough."

I'm quite optimistic about this team. Looking forward to traveling to Wheaton for the opener next weekend!
