Regional rankings are out. NCC 2nd in Region V, Wheaton 4th, Augie 6th.

Wartburg tops Region V, which could have bracketing implications.
Having Augie ranked changes the calculus a bit with a Cardinal win this weekend as it would provide NCC with a second win over an RRO.  It still may not be enough to move the Cards over Wartburg, though, as long as Bethel and Central stay ranked.   Those 2 plus a win over Coe give Wartburg 3 wins over RROs.  Depending on how this shakes out, NCC may be travelling for the semis if they end up on the same side of the bracket as Wartburg or Mount depending on how the committee views UMU's wins over JCU and Marietta.

Yeah, I have no gripes with Wartburg atop the region, and I'd assume NCC would trek out there were they to meet.

As for the latter, just so I've got all the numbers in one place:

NCC1.000.4891-0
UMU1.000.4862-0

NCC's SOS will go up following the final game, as should Mount's. They'll probably finish around the same. NCC would get a second RRO win in that scenario to match Mount's as well. In which case, I would really hope the committee remembers that that whole "prior championship results" clause that's in the manual is a thing.

I will singlehandedly provide enough salt for Naperville for winter again if I have to.

I'd be very surprised if Mount Union and NCC aren't on opposite sides of the bracket, but this is the NCAA, so....

shocking that teams in a 10 team conference would end up around .500 SOS.... ::)

nobody with the ability to see would think that Mount and NCC are not the top two teams in the country and then a bit of a gap.  Anything but overall seeds #1 and 2 for last year's Stagg Bowl teams is a shame.  So get ready for Johns Hopkins as the top seed overall...NCAA baby!!

Except I never said anything about the fact that their SOS was around .500...?  ???

Sorry, my gripe is that teams in 10 team conferences can't really help their SOS, it'll always be around .500, the NCAA puts too much weight on it

NPU is usually the primary victim for CCIW POW awards. I'm pleasantly surprised that it hasn't happened at all this season.

I like this factoid! Thanks for posting it!

Is there some consternation over Lehnen's availability for tomorrow? Just read the Quick Hits and Pat made a comment about watching to make sure he was out there for the opening drive.

I'm not particularly consterned, but he did essentially get knocked out of last week's game, so a small confirmation would be welcome for me.

To the men who played their last football game today, thank you.  It's always inspiring to watch and read about the athletes who give so much to a sport while expecting little to nothing in return.

The CCIW is a tough league and it says a lot for a person to pour his heart out for his teammates and his coaches for any length of time.  To do this for four (or five or six) years is a big deal!  It says a lot about character.  All the best in the next phase!

Unfortunately, that streak is likely to come to an end this week, as Wheaton's Giovanni Weeks had a crazy big day (including four touchdowns) against NPU.

On the plus side, this marks the first season ever that North Park has finished ahead of Illinois Wesleyan in the CCIW football standings (they were tied for second at 5-2 apiece in 1968). May it become the first iteration of an equally long tradition in NPU's favor!
