Don't forget that while IWU has struggled in recent years, the great 2020 year where Norm led them to a tie for second in the CCIW with a 2-1 record. If it wasn't for a loss to Millikin.  Amazing he can hang on at that school, not win and act as he does.

Norm's school is located in a community with 5 high schools that compete at a high level in different classes.  A quick search of the roster has 4 kids from Bloomington or Normal.  Normal Community is a powerhouse annually.  Really??  Why would this be?  Yes some kids want to leave town, but I bet many have heard the Norm stories.

Go Knights!

By the way, guys, I made it home safely.  To my surprise, my car wasn't on cinder blocks and I was able to drive home.

Hope Norm gets well soon.  I'd like to see him shake Brad's hand after NC puts another 80+ points on him in his season (career?) finale.

Biggest thing the stood out to me in the NP/IWU video is how fast the workers started cleaning up the pylons!! Impressive!

Must have been in  hurry to get out of the inner city

Those pylons go for huge money on the street, man.

Question for D3 experts. I was watching in the D3Huddle on Facebook and they sure seemed upset about the new NPI system. As a Wheaton fan, it sure seems like it was a mistake to schedule Oshkosh at the beginning of the season. I remember when we played Northwestern (Minn) and ran them off the field. Will teams go back to scheduling easy teams to have a good record so they will get in? It sure seems silly to only rely on computer numbers? Having Whitewater at 80 is absolutely crazy. And North Central is going to get robbed again, they will have to run the gauntlet to make it to the National Championship all beat up. This is nuts from my novice perspective. What say you?

Pat Coleman

I would say you should listen to the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast.

Someone mentioned the current formula is being used for 2 years. It can be adjusted for SOS to be more important and I think eventually they have to do that.
I was wondering if Wheaton has to root for other CCIW teams to improve their NPI?

If your really interested in seeing how they calculate NPI, check this out: D3 Datacast
https://youtu.be/94_NTM2k1nc?si=i2MYeOTwXCPiia3r

They give some examples of a win and a loss and show how NPI is calculated.
Blowouts don't matter. Just if you win or lose. You still get a NPI calculated if you lose for that game.
SOS comes in play by your opponents NPI.
They give a good example at 11:30 where if you lose to a team with an NPI of 79, (one of top teams) your NPI for that game would be 47.40. If you beat a team with an NPI of 17.5 (one of the worst teams) your NPI for that game would be 50.50.

I'll add the QWB (quality win base multiplier) was meant to encourage teams to schedule competitive games.

I can't do anything about that. They've definitely made it personal and not sure why.

Neither 47.4 or 50.5 is good enough to get you close to the cut line for an at-large bid, however.

I listen to both podcasts. I like Logan's segment you added this year.
Frank is pointing out the results of using NPI and I'm sure a lot of us agree with what he is pointing out. At the same time if you're going to criticize the use of NPI you might as well understand how it works. At the end of the day the old system used wins, so does NPI. The old system used SOS, so does NPI. The subjectivity has been taking out and that caused some issues in the past.
I think a good question to ask is why did the NCAA choose the weights they did for wins and SOS? Especially since they are different than what they are using in other sports where SOS has a greater weight.

The version of the football committee that set these dials did not have a lot of so-called "power conference" coaches/ADs/commissioners on it, and favored a lower emphasis on SOS compared to W/L%.
