Wartburg and Coe were definitely solid running teams (#22 and #21 respectively) and Bethel held Wartburg to 115 yds and Coe to around 80. North Central's only foe with a reputable run defense was Hope (#8 vs run) and they ran for 272 yds. North Central had 44 runs and 18 passes. While Lehnen will absolutely hurt you throwing the ball, the run game powers this offense and they are totally committed to it. Lehnen is the leading rusher as well.

Both teams have big games to win this weekend but that matchup, which has some history, would be great.

Quote from: USee on December 10, 2024, 12:53:41 PMIt's not a secret how to defend NCC, yet no one seems to be able to do it. You have to stop the run and try to keep Lehnen in the pocket to face 2nd/3rd and long as a pocket passer. NCC's defense has been stout up front (top 20 against the run) and they get off the field on 3rd down (4th nationally). Much better defense this year vs last in the playoffs (healthier) and an equally potent offense. They continue to be the strong favorite IMO

It's one thing to know what to do, it's another entirely to not get repeatedly knocked on your keister by that Cardinal offensive line.  Those guys put you where you don't want to be more often than not.

Some great recognition and very worthy pics. D3FB staff always does a great job on these across 6 regions, which is tough. Only quibble I have is Max Wilson not on 1st team All Region. I didn't see a better cover corner this season. Wheaton's defense wasn't great, but they had 2 premiere players in Peter Johanik (DPOY) and Max Wilson.

Sullivan was a worthy recipient as DPOY and I especially loved seeing 3 NPU players on here in Miller, Butler and Ombrogo.

Thanks to Pat and the team for their work to put these together.

I'd nominate Shane Dierking. His shot is coming.

Quote from: robertgoulet on December 09, 2024, 04:10:43 PMI am having fleeting memories of an NCC playoff game vs a team that ran the option but my mind is gone enough that I can't remember if it even happened, let alone who/when it would have been.

2006 Season, CUW upset the Cardinals Week 1 and then in the first round NCC won 35-6. They ran some triple option.

Let's hope 14 year old Shane Dierking was taking notes.

NCC's Zack Orr was interviewed on In The D3FB Huddle podcast.
Interview starts at 9:50 mark. Guys gave their breakdown of the Springfield vs. NCC game for a couple minutes before the interview.

We've heard a lot about the vaunted Springfield rushing game, and it's certainly impressive. But it needs to be remembered that NCC also has an impressive rushing attack of their own. They just don't run as often because they also have a QB who is familiar with the word "pass," and has even had a mild degree of success in doing so.

Also, if you know the difference between a 🏈 and a hockey puck, you know you can't beat NCC without a pretty effective passing attack. So there's that.

robertgoulet

Rough call against NCC. NCC online push got an extra 5 yds with a rugby scrum push of Sacco but ball came out at the end and Springfield given the ball. On replay looked like Sacco was down. Springfield threatening.

17-3 NCC at half. Unsportsmanlike (right call) on Sullivan when NCC would have gotten the ball back with about 1:30 left after a 3 and out leads to Springfield FG. They will receive to start the 2nd half, so a chance to cut it to a one score lead.
