For the Campbell Trophy stuff. And the answer of course is no. It's a once in a lifetime thing.

Quote from: GusD on December 14, 2024, 05:27:13 PMAt the conclusion of today's festivities, both coaching staffs were observed bidding the officiating crew a very fond adieu and wishing them well in their next assignment(s )  ;)

As delineated above by robertgoulet, North Central was especially upset with the targeting call that likely wasn't.

Springfield likewise found fault with several calls. However the Pride gave evidence of being an especially chippy outfit. They lost a TD on an illegal blindside crack back block, had two unsportsmanlike penalties called, and two of their players were ejected for their transgressions. Additionally, a Springfield player openly swung and connected with Cardinal Danny Nuccio. The incident occurred out in the open right in front of the stands and was visible to the majority of those in attendance but was either missed or ignored by the officials. If it had justifiably been called, it could have easily resulted in a 3rd ejection for the team from Massachusetts.

Hopped on a Zoom call for what?

To be told that they were giving the award to a guy from Alabama.  Doesn't matter.

Interesting fact:  An Alabama transfer named Luke ended up helping NCC win a few track & field  national championships while winning 7 individual pole vault national championships.

If your name is Luke, consider a small DIII school in the western suburbs of Chicago.

Go Cards!

Pat and Greg,

Just listened to your podcast.  Always fun to get my D3football fix on a Monday morning!

Regarding the announcers, my sentiments exactly.  It's a shame that we D3 fans have knowledgeable announcers pulled away from us just to have some dispassionate underling from ESPN Ocho stand in their rightful place.  Then, for the next three hours we get to listen on as they mispronounce everything - players and school names alike - and blurt out the one stat that they learned Saturday morning, over and over and over...  Thankfully I will be at the game.  For the rest of you, think fondly of Alex and Grant.

And now on to more important matters...  Pequod's Pizza is the best.  It's like the first team AA QB of pizzas.  It's #1 out of 237 pizza places in Chicago.  While Uno's and Malnoti's have the College Gameday hype like Amhurst/Williams, Pequod's is the real deal. The caramelized cheese crust running circles around the field.  An overwhelming layer of cheese, daring you to go a full 60 minutes.

I get that there will be people watching who wont know better, but as a fan of one of the teams playing it always sucks when the announcers are under informed. I'd much rather have a homer announcing crew who knows a lot about one team and a little about the other than a national announce crew who obviously know nothing about either.

Greg and 773—you are too kind. We have a lot of fun doing it and have an awesome football team to broadcast for. That makes our job both much easier and more exciting! The role of the production and camera crew also can't be understated. They work their tails off before, during, and after the game to make sure everything looks and sounds great. We're glad you enjoy it!

I have it on good authority that the targeting call on NCC LB Zack Orr has been reversed and he will play a full game Saturday vs Susquehanna. It's the right decision and glad for the player and the Cardinals.

Excellent podcast by Greg and Pat on the front page. They had Frank Rossi on who was at the Bethel/Susq game and on the goal line for the final Susquehanna TD on 4th down with 44 sec left. He said it was close but a clear TD. He also said the final holding call was very blatant by both the OL and the RB. I didn't realize there was a final play with a bunch of laterals after the the nullified hail mary (neither did Pat and Greg). I saw it in the play by play Sunday afternoon. Crazy. In any respect, tough way for your season to end and exciting way to win for the victor's fans.

Susquehanna kind of reminds me of last year's Cortland. Playmakers on both sides of the ball. Top two offenses in the country facing off in Naperville. Difference to me will be the defense of Susquehanna vs NCC. I think Susq will move the ball and score but maybe not at the same rate as the Cardinals.

I don't want to pile on the ESPN crews that do the semis and the Stagg Bowl. No, they haven't followed the teams closely for 14 weeks, they will botch some names, and they miss some nuances of Division III, but I don't ever get the sense that they don't care.  They're generally pretty enthusiastic about the event.

I haven't had Pequod's but I am aware of it and it's definitely on my list to try the next time I get to Chicago!

By saying "my sentiments exactly" and then saying what I said and how I said it, I put you on a side of the issue.  I had no business doing that.

For me, I need to practice what I preach and assume other peoples' best intentions.  No, they don't have an intimate knowledge of our division and its beloved players, but they're professionals who do the best with what they have.  In a perfect world they would contract out announcer responsibilities to someone with that sort of knowledge, but here we are.
