Little Giant 89, the quote you have in the signature line is the best.  And kind of topical...

Quote from: Cardinal773 on December 17, 2024, 11:38:00 AMBy saying "my sentiments exactly" and then saying what I said and how I said it, I put you on a side of the issue.  I had no business doing that.

For me, I need to practice what I preach and assume other peoples' best intentions.  No, they don't have an intimate knowledge of our division and its beloved players, but they're professionals who do the best with what they have.  In a perfect world they would contract out announcer responsibilities to someone with that sort of knowledge, but here we are.

Ultimately this isn't an issue just limited to D3 and the lower tier announce teams. Anyone who has a team playing on a national broadcast (any sport, any level) and listens to the national broadcast teams can hear a lack of in-depth knowledge bleed through. Obviously they only have a finite amount of time and as you go down the adder the amount of resources devoted to research shrinks more and more, so the lack of knowledge is more noticeable....but knowing all that that doesn't make it less annoying.

The top national broadcast teams get the Cliffsnotes version of a book then try to explain to someone in detail what happened (and a whole research team in the producers ear feeding information). The lower teams get the summary from the back cover of the book and do the best they can. They're like me in grade school.

Read too quickly and thought this was a quote from the movie Little Giants.

If you enjoy a gritty English spy drama Slow Horses is well worth your time for a binge over the winter holidays, but you do need AppleTV+.

This has nothing to do with CCIW football, so we now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Some quick observations from NCC's win over Springfield...

On defense, Will Vernon returned to play after leaving early in the Hope game with an injury.  Martin Egbo was in full uniform but did not play a snap against Springfield. Not sure why they would have him dressed if there was no intention of him playing, considering the roster limits for the playoffs. Maybe it was an injury in warmups or they had him dressed for emergency purposes, not sure.

Hopefully, he is able to return and play this week along with Sacco and Coleman who others have mentioned left the game early and did not return.  In the regular season they were very cautious with anyone who got injured so hoping that is why all 3 were held out.

The big change from the regular season to the playoffs has been the emergence of Andre Casas as the field goal kicker. He is the kickoff specialist but now also seems to be the preferred option on fields goals. He is 4/4 on FGs in the past 2 weeks after going 0/1 in the regular season.  His miss was against Caroll from 46 yards.  Ryneic is still handling PATs but Casas is kicking the FGs, including short ones. His 4 makes are from 30, 41, 26 & 35 yards.

This is a big development as not trusting the kicker certainly cost them points last year in the Stagg Bowl. Also, 2 of the 4th downs they chose to kick FGs from these past 2 weeks were 4th and 5 or less, which is usually a spot where they go for the first down.

Susquehanna will for sure be the best offense NCC has faced this year.  RB Rahshan LaMons looks like someone who may not be playing at this level next year, as I can see him getting offers if he were to enter the transfer portal, he is that good as a freshman. They have 1 elite WR in Kyle Howes as well.  Their QB also is very elusive escaping the pocket and running, which has always given NCC defenses problems.  I am anticipating them being able to score 28 points minimum on Saturday and would not be shocked if they score 30+.

Looking forward to what should be a great game in these senior's last game at home.  This class is currently 30-0 at Benedetti Wehrli stadium.

Egbo being dressed leads me to believe he's "close" so hopefully he can suit up. Would be a shame for him to be injured for the biggest games 2 yrs in a row.

Coleman looked like an ankle, those are always hard to judge especially when you're a skill position guy. He gives them a different look than the other RBs they have, he's got a different size/speed ratio than most D3 RBs. Missing him hurts in short yardage.

Sacco I honestly don't have a lot of hope for but that's based more on lack of any sort of knowledge as to what happened. It was still early enough in the game that I wouldn't have thought they'd take him out as a precaution unless it was something to do with his hip/pelvis and if that's the case I can't see him suiting up this weekend.

Casas's FGs have really stood out. He has a cannon.

Sus's QB gives me more nerves than the stud RB. The mobile QBs have always given NCC fits.
You win! You always do!

Pat Coleman

In fairness to North Central, mobile QBs give most teams fits.

"It is an honor and privilege to be the head football coach at Millikin University, the premier university in the CCIW," said Riebock.

Yikes, not sure what he was told or the extent of his research but this statement represents a significant perception vs reality gap. Welcome to the league Coach!

Quote from: USee on December 16, 2024, 03:40:10 PMI have it on good authority that the targeting call on NCC LB Zack Orr has been reversed and he will play a full game Saturday vs Susquehanna. It's the right decision and glad for the player and the Cardinals.

I saw this as well and thought Lou Holtz had taken the job! Looks like he grew up in Decatur so he is well aware of what he's going to have to sell recruits on. I'm really curious how the IWeenie coach hunt is going.
