Q-thanks for the words and the update. much appreciated.

On football: a reminder for those new posters....i am keeping track of everyones picks for the conference race. if you want to submit just post your picks here and i will track them. post the order of finish for the cciw and overall record. i have close to 20 entries so far and once the games begin i will post all the picks.

robertgoulet

usee - i've forgotten.....did you get my picks?

i'm starting to get a little gitty over the fact that the season is starting so soon! GO CARDS!

also - anyone else want to get on the "kyle orton for pro-bowl" bandwagon that i'm starting? hehe
You win! You always do!

vikes35

robert,

I agree with you that Orton being the starter is the best move for the Bears at the time, but before we give him the pro bowl start lets allow him to make it into the playoffs. I bet when he plays with the first unit he is going to be great, but Bears fans need to see what he can do against a first unit defense also. Either way I do think that if he keeps up the way he has been, he could be the future for Chicago Bears football. Maybe then in the next few years you might be able to take the "hehe" off the end of that last post.

Sterny

my picks for cciw 2005

1. Wheaton 7-0
2. NCC 6-1
3. Augie 4-3
4. Carthage 4-3
5. IWU 3-4
6. Milikin 3-4
7. Elmhurst 1-6
8. North Park 0-7

goulet- yes i have your picks. sterny, i now have yours--welcome aboard. missing some notables (mugsy, diehard, madswede, etc)  ???

Mr. Ypsi

Usee,

I'm hurt not to be among your missing notables!  But I understand, I'm mainly a bball guy.

Sterny's picks looked pretty good to me; I'll just tweak 'em a bit:

1. Wheaton 6-1
2. NCC 5-2
3. Augie 4-3
3. Carthage 4-3
3. IWU 4-3*
3. Millikin 4-3
7. Emhurst 1-6
8. NP 0-7

*the death of Doug Schmied makes IWU totally unpredictable; they could run the table in his memory, or totally collapse - I have no clue.  If I were FORCED to bet, I think I would put them even higher.  The heck with it, I will!  (Delete the above picks):

1. Wheaton 6-1
1. IWU 6-1
3. NCC 4-3
3. Augie 4-3
3. Carthage 4-3
6. Millikin 3-4
7. Elmhurst 1-6
8. NP 0-8

I predict North Park defeats Elmhurst this year.  They "clash" at NP's Homecoming, I believe.

REDSCARE

We're finally into game week!  Time to put on the pads, strap on the helmets and play some football!  Can't wait for saturday... Good luck to all!

redman04

My predictions

Carthage 7-0
Wheaton 6-1
NCC 5-2
Augie 4-3
Milikin 3-4
IWU 2-5
Elmhurst 1-7
North Park 0-8

there is much bias in my picks, just like always
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

Yes Elmhurst plays at Homgren Stadium for NPU's homecoming.    NPU should have won the last 2 of 3 from Elmhurst just a 5-10 minute span in both games has been the difference.  Along with Doug Smied's family please keep those in the South in mind from that devastating Hurricane.
Glad to see the Bears use their heads and let the kid play. I would rather see a promising rookie make mistakes while learning, as opposed to a washed up veteran who is going nowhere.
I'm surprised most people are picking Elmhurst to win just 1 conf. game. I think everybody will get at least 1 conf. win and I think the CCIW Champ will have at least 1, possibly 2 losses.  Should be an all out  exciting brawl of a season.
Go Bluejays this Saturday looking to make it 5 in a row against IBC.

Gotta love D3 Football!!  I like the predictions so far.  I was far off last year so let's see if I can do any better this year.

Wheaton 7-0
NCC 6-1
Carthage 4-3
IWU 4-3
Augie 4-3
Milliken 3-4
Elmhurst 1-5
North Park 1-5

My prayers go out to the Schmied's and the entire IWU football program.  May God comfort and bring hope to you all.  This definitely brings perspective doesn't it.  Let's root for our teams this year and cherish the fact that we have the ability to do so.

USee,

My picks for 2005:

SchoolRecordCCIW Record
Wheaton9-16-1
NCC9-16-1
Augie8-25-2
Carthage7-34-3
Millikin6-44-3
IWU4-62-5
Elmhurst3-71-6
NPU2-81-6

My rationale:
1. The "Homer" factor is in effect at some level. :o  My head tells me Wheaton may end up more like 7-3, but my heart tells me Swider & Co. will find a way to get it done.

2. Wheaton & NCC have a more favorable road schedule against the key contenders:

TeamKey Road Games
Wheaton@ NCC
NCC@ Augie
Augie@ Carthage, Wheaton
Carthage@ NCC, Wheaton, and Millikin

I've included Millikin for Carthage based on the fact Carthage faces a brutal stretch of @Millikin, Augie and @ NCC in consecutive weeks.  Millikin is a long way to travel for the Redmen and they need to protect against overlooking the potentially dangerous Big Blue in favor of the gauntlet of Augie & NCC.

3. Potential upset games?
Oct. 1st - Carthage @ Millikin (see note above)
Oct. 8th - NCC @ IWU
Oct. 8th - Millikin @ Wheaton
Oct. 15th - Wheaton @ Elmhurst (recently Wheaton hasn't played well in Elmhurst)
Oct. 22nd - Augie @ Millikin (historically a tough game between rivals)
Oct. 29th - Millikin @ NCC (NCC has Augie the following week)

4. NPU snaps their 4 year "0-fer the CCIW", but not much more...

5. IMO, the "wild-card" of the season (as noted in my upset list) is Millikin.  How well they can throw the ball will determine how nuts Wallick will run.  Their schedule is favorable in that they face key CCIW contenders either just prior to or just after matchups with other key contenders (danger to over look Millikin, or struggle to recover from brutally tough matchup).

Other questions:
1. Which games will prove to be the completely unexpected upset that ruins one or more of the key contenders chances at the CCIW crown?
2. Which injuries will severely hamper one or more of the CCIW contenders?
3. We've talked about it all off season... will the eventual CCIW champ end up with 2 loses?

Time will tell... it's almost time to strap it up and start answering all the questions in the only forum that counts... ON THE FIELD!

lol... you want me to make picks? I didn't even get to see one single CCIW football game last year, only ODAC games.  :'(

I've obviously been following things, I suppose I could make picks, but they might not be that good.  :D
Wait, dunks are only worth two points?!?!!!? Why does anyone do them? - diehardfan

Diehard,

The same could be said about quite a number of us CCIW posters. :P

Mr. Ypsi

April,

That is NOT any acceptable excuse - I won the bball pick-'ems in the 03-04 season despite Pat having invented the 'cabonney rule' (i.e., 'if you haven't seen a game in 30 years, shut up!' - though he was more polite than to say it QUITE that way).

While I finally busted the cabonney rule at last year's CCIW-MIAA showdown, my drought for d3 fball games will reach 36 years this season - but I picked! :P
