Thanks to all of you for your insights on the games.  Very helpful, especially because I am unable to get to any games due to distance.   A CCIW sweep, good news for this early season.

I don't know about the difference between scheduling bball and fball either, but I believe there are more schools that play basketball, thereby making a potential opponent easier to schedule.

Where can we find the CCIW pick 'ems now?

formerd3db,  just stepping foot on U of C's campus engulfs you with history on and off the field.  I am happy to go to Stagg Field for road games, and even happier when we pull out of there with a W. EC is 2 for 2 at Stagg.
Any given Saturday still holds true for the CCIW, especially this year.  Wheaton ( as any team) is not untouchable and if Hope puts it together, this should be a good game.  I would favor Wheaton 24-14 ish because I think on paper, they are better, however on paper means nothing.  I am hoping to clear my schedule on Sat. to make the game.
Sorry to hear about Will Landry at Wheaton.  Wow, it has been a tragic year for the CCIW, my condolences.

Chicago State University Baseball.....A new beginning, turning around one of the worst Division 1 baseball programs starts right now....Any questions feel free to ask.

I know what you mean.  It would be great to meet you at the game Sat, however, while I usually go myself and/or go with the team, alas my schedule this weekend does not allow me to be there this weekend.  It could very well be as you say, although, it could also be a blow-out. :-[

I seem to have stirred a bit of a hornet's nest with my comments about 'cupcake scheduling'.  My post was probably an over-reaction to the coincidental alignment of opponents last week.  Chicago is a very reasonable opponent for CCIW teams, I know essentially nothing about the history of Franklin or Augsburg, but question the scheduling of Greenville, Benedictine (except in bball), or Eureka.

I'm aware of the differences between scheduling bball and fball.  I would give IWU a pass on scheduling Eureka (about 20 miles away), though I'm not sure they ever have; but North Park must have 30-50 closer schools they could have scheduled  (though, considering their recent record, I will give them a pass on scheduling a 'cupcake' as well!).  But Wheaton playing Greenville (apparently that will NOT happen again), or Carthage taking on Benedictine (??!!) is a different can of worms!

Nevertheless, last week was a fluke - cupcakes coming into alignment, if you will!  Looking at overall schedules, the CCIW is not doing a disgraceful job in 'cupcake' scheduling, though it probably should upgrade a bit.

Because of costs, we are not likely to play many (if any!) games against those 'upstart' powers in Texas and Oregon, but we should try to play more games against the WIAC and OAC - most of them are not IMPOSSIBLY far away.

Just in case you didn't know Carthage has been playing Illinois Benedictine for a while.   When I was at Carthage more than ten years ago, we were the cupcake for them and now the tide has turned so lighten up a little bit.

Same reason for Carrol  we still play them for the musket.  Sometimes there is more involved in the game than just a w

Looking at Elmhurst's non conference schedules over the past 5-6 years, I would say IBC, CURF, and the 2 that I would NOT be eager to include on the 2006 schedule.  Chicago is a great 45 minute opponent.  Ohio Wesleyan and Ripon (though farther distances) was a great opponent.  Alma was also a nice non conf. team.
I would rather lose a close game to a challenging opponent, than win a cupcake game because A) it makes you feel like you've accomplished something (even though you may have fallen a little short at the end), and B) It gets you prepared for what you will see 7 weeks in the CCIW.
Lastly, I was talking with a NC grad that I workout with and he told me that North Central is looking to put the video clip of the TD return where there were 3-4 laterals, on ESPN.  Any news about this Cards?

As of this date, the Carthage Media Guide does not list Benedictine as an opponent for the 2006 & 2007 seasons. Week #3 & #4 still show as open dates each year, but don't be surprised if Benedictine ends up filling that schedule void. I assume there is a contract search going on.

Pat,

would Carthage look for a team closer in travel time or closer in talent?
