I guess we felt that the players we selected had great games against tougher opponents. It doesn't really matter to us who you play for when we select the Team of the Week, but it definitely matters who you play against.

With all that said...IWU was never the dirtiest team I played against.

Hands down it was Carthage.  There was a game my senior year where a player of ours was punched in the junk (very much on purpose) twice in the same half.  I also remember someone trying to break my finger in a loose ball pile.

Yeah, actually I found the person from Carthage who had punched the player in the balls. I ended up working with this kid named Tom Bez, most of the younger cathage alum probably know him. Well, I went to NCC and I was telling him this story about what happened to this kid at the Carthage/NCC game I believe it was 2000. Well, anyways after a kickoff this jerk runs to the sidelines and jacks our starting free safety in the nuts after the play was over. I am sure to him it was worth the 15 yards he got. And It was weird because the refs are so good when NCC plays at Carthage that he was not kicked out of the game. Hmmmmmm....... So weird because the refs are very fair there LOL!!!!! >:(

I absolutely agree that Norm has his issues, and many players have issues with him including myself.  It's also true that being passionate doesn't earn you respect.  I wasn't ever trying to give that impression if thats what comes across.  I was just trying to communicate some of his odd nuances.  You can choose your own opinions about them.  The only defending I've tried to do for him on here was to say he doesn't INTENTIONALLY do things to stick it to others.  He does these things out of naivety.  Doesn't necessarily make it any better other than the fact that it's not something that he plots, it's just he doesn't necessarily understand how things look on the other side.

To any of the CC fans: I'm making the trip up North this weekend for the game. I've only been to Kenosha one time for the CCIW Conference Swim meet 4 years ago. I wanted to know where is the best place to eat/drink before and after the game. Any info would be appreciated.

Good place to go to would be Ron's Place.  When you are heading north on 94 get off at Highway 158. I believe that it is the next exit after Highway 50.  Head east on 158 and that will take you through kenosha.  Ron's place will be on the right hand side.  About a 3 miles past green bay rd.  they have real good burgers, chili in a bread bowl, and great long islands.

To get to the game after.  Go back east on 158 until you hit Sheridan rd.  turn left and you will run into Carthage.  About 8 miles down.

I remember the Deion injury at Wheaton.  I was in the stands cheering for Wheaton as it was a crucial game in the CCIW.  Sitting on the Wheaton side I remember him running a sweep around the corner.  As he got close to the Wheaton sideline the players blocked the view of the injury as it took place.  I remember booing the ref when the flag came out, only to feel immediately terrible that I had booed the ref as the Wheaton medical staff literally ran to Deion pushing Wheaton players out of the way etc.  The stadium got really quiet and you could hear how much pain he was in.  Spooky stuff.

If I recall Tommy Bez was suspended for the next game after the punchout against NCC.

This week as some have noted is going to be a "emotional rebound" game.  How will Wheaton rebound?  Will Elmhurst drop their guard after the inspiring win over IWU, and NPU has nothing to lose.  Can Carthage keep it going against Augie?
I'm looking forward to 2 weeks when Elmhurst hosts Wheaton.   Elm should be (and I say that loosely)  5-0 and Wheaton will be 4-1.  The last 2 trips to Elmhurst have been difficult for Wheaton.  The game has been decided in the last few minutes.
Ah the great Norm Eash debate has unfortunately resurfaced.  Every Coach in the CCIW has his +'s and his -'s .  I personally don't care for Stormin' Norman  more because he can be a sore winner.
Carthage was by far the dirtiest team that I played against, HOWEVER we are arch rivals  Car/Elm  and you have to expect that when you play your arch rival.  We circled one game on our schedule each year (Carthage)  that was a must win, whether we were 8-1 or 1-8.  We were able to beat them twice which always felt good.  ;D
Unfortunately, that was usually the 1 or 2 wins we would get each year. :-\

As long as the subject was brought up, I have to add my two cents.  There is no place that you felt like you were playing against the home team and the officials like at Millikin.

Wash'd, I agree with the others about the pileups.  It's kind of like the Las Vegas saying.  What happens in the pileups, stays in the pileups!

I think the mind numbing ride down there might have something to do with that as well.

Pat,

Makes sense. I guess a 3 pick game against a team like Carthage or NCC or Wheaton is something to write home about, against NPU it loses it flare. Thanks for the comment. I thought that was probably the ultimate factor, thanks for clarification.

I know several kids that played for Norm and NOT ONE of them ever had anything good to say about him. He may bleed green and cry at the term Wienies but he has no one to blame but himself. He gave no respect to anyone and gets none in return!

Irish21...How can you criticize class or respect for an opponent that Norm has?  Your son was involved in an E-mail incident his senior year.  That showed complete lack of class.

As far as players never saying anything positive about Coach Eash; he is an outstanding leader and moral person.  Players are better people when they buy into his system and stick it out for 4 years.  It is hard to gather an opinion of a coach from select players b/c they might feel like they were wronged due to playing time, off the field circumstances, etc.

This is a message board used to submit opinions, but I suggest people are more careful when submitting their opinions about the character and the morality of someone they do not know personally.

I was there in late 90's.  Not all that long ago.

IWU 02,  I agree that until you get to know somebody personally, you can't make "valued" judgements on a person.  I have met Norm Eash and he has a gentle very open side to him.  The thing that I dislike about him, is that he can be a sore winner by what he shows on the field.   Some of these examples have been allready expressed on this board.  What you do on the field sometimes speaks louder than anything else.
I think Carthage is going to have trouble against Augie this weekend.  It is hard to beat Augie back to back, let alone beating them once!  Should be a good game and if I wasn't broadcasting, would want to go and see that game.
Finally, the Blackhawks and hockey is back!  It's about time!
Could you imagine the intensity if the CCIW had a hockey league.  Give a bunch of strong, ego intense, crazy college boys together.   :D
