I know alot of crazy things can still happen, but there was talk that augie might have made it last year if the 4 extra bids were allowed in.  They were 7-3 last year.  THis year i think that it is a good possibility that a team that is 8-2 would make the playoffs.

I don't think so, just because of the amount AQ in the region.  I don't know for sure.
Pat, Shed some light???

There's a chance an 8-2 team might go. But the number of automatic bids in the region is irrelevant. The last time the bids were handed out regionally was 1998.

Question Pat,

Say Augie loses two of its three like they did last year, NCC wins out and so does Carthage.  The Committee would prob take Augie with a 7-3 record vs. Carthage being at 8-2, because of beating them head to head.  But my real question is would there be a way that they take 3 from the conference being that is was so tough and maybe send the third team out of Region?

nccalum62:
The Augie loss to Central was a close game. Augie didn't play well in the opener. Central won in OT by going for a 2 pt conversion after Augie had scored 7 with the first possession of OT.  It marked the 2nd consecutive game that Augie lost by 1 point from the opposing team going for a 2 pt conversion instead of the extra point (Wheaton did that to them in the '04 finale). I'm wondering if this is some kind of record.

Dansand, well said.  I just think MUC is getting "accustomed" to hosting a playoff game.  Well if NC is undefeated and MUC has 1 or 2 losses, I think they shouldn't be "rewarded" with a home game.  We can show them a little Northern IL/Naperville pride of our own.
From this Cubs fan, I must say Congrats to the Chicago White Sox. I wish it was Cubby Blue, but maybe next year will be our year.

I can't answer for Pat, but IMO the would take the 8-2 team over the 7-3 team no matter who was the head to head winner.
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

Redman, I would vote for the 8-2 team over a 7-3 team any day of the week, despite strength of schedule.
Hey Vikings, what's the weather forecast for Ericson Field on Sat.?  I can recall during my playing days a 22-0 loss at  Augie that was so rainy, you could plant your feet and sink it was that bad! ;D

1. North Central (Illinois) 5-0 7-0
2. Wabash 6-0 7-0
3. Ohio Northern 5-1 6-1
4. Mount Union 5-1 6-1
5. Augustana (Illinois) 5-1 6-1
6. John Carroll 6-1 6-1
7. Mount St. Joseph 6-1 6-1
8. Carthage 5-2 5-2
9. Otterbein 5-2 5-2
10. Capital 5-2 5-2

Congrats to the Vikings and Redmen.  Mount union probably isnt used to seeing any teams above them, which is a credit to Mount Unions program as well

Augiedoggie........why would that be a record...whats the significance?

usee

keep in mind there is at least 1 for sure scenario for a 2 loss team from cciw getting in: ncc loses to augie but wins other 2; augie beats elmhurst, ncc and loses to wheaton. that makes augie the AQ w 2 losses and ncc gets in as pool C w 1 loss.

other 2 loss scenarios are possible with the wheaton/carthage winner the likeliest candidate, but i don't see any way we get 3 teams from the cciw in the field so that would require a meltdown by augie or ncc which isn't likely.

Mr. Ypsi

While I view it as unlikely, I think it is VERY possible the CCIW could have 3 teams.

The way to all but GUARANTEE 2 teams would be for Augie to beat NCC, and both otherwise win out - Augie would be AQ, NCC would be a virtual lock for a C.  (If Augie loses that game, they would be 8-2 at best, and on the bubble.)

But look at Carthage - they are #8 in the region.  If they win out, they will probably be above that.  While picks are not made by region, ON AVERAGE regions get 8 picks.  An 8-2 Carthage team is certainly in bubble territory.

[I didn't include Wheaton in the scenario since, to finish 8-2, they would have to beat both Carthage and Augie, which makes the permutations too complex!]

While I doubt the CCIW will get 3 teams in, the possibility IS there.

Augiedogie:
I figured it was a close game and Central is a tough first game of the year for any program.

The rest-
I would love to see three teams from the CCIW win out but I doubt it would happen.  My earlier question remains...if NCC wins out will they be the number one seed in the North Region (Wabash may win out as well).  I think they can do it, they need to take care of business against Millikin first, but I know coach Thorne wants a big road win against Augie on his list of accomplishments...good luck to all the CCIW teams this weekend, hoping for zero injuries and some great football

Hugh:
The significance of losing 2 straight games by 1 pt from a 2 pt converstions is A) Augie didn't make the playoffs last year because of it B) It could make the difference of Augie not making the playoffs this year if they happen to lose a conference game C) It is a very non-traditional move and D) I was just wondering if that had ever happened to a team before because it is rare that teams go for a 2 point converstion to end a game when they could force an OT by kicking the extra point.

NCC_Alum62:
NCC should remain on top if they win out. Looking at the QOW's NCChas the3rd toughest schedule while Walbash is 10th with a 1.07 pts less QOW. If NCC wins out, they would get the most points for winning on the road against Augie, a win over a .500 team in Milikin and a win at home against NP.   Walbash, has almost the same exact setup with 2 home games (1 above .500 1 well below) and have to travel to face a team that would net them the maximum QOW points as well. Good luck to NCC this weekend and Nov 12th. I'm hoping that Augie runs the table so that we would be almost guarenteed to get 2 CCIW teams in the playoffs then.
