NCC dominates Millkin.

Sets up the showdown of the year.

Let the games begin.

Well this is going to be a heck of a week comming up...

Auggie and NCC play for the title next saturday

NCC absolutly handled Millikin on both sides of the ball and played second stringers for most of the 4th

Augie 64, Elmhurst 42

How many did McAdams-Thornton have for Augie? ... Huh?
Football? ... Are you sure? ... Hmmmmm  ???

wheaty

Augie beats NCC (what if)...how much does the Wheaton game play? Would Augie be automatic no matter the result of the Wheaton game? Would NC get the pool C bid?

dansand

I'm pretty sure Augie's the AQ if they get by NCC and vice versa.

wheaty

again...another "what if" (this is really going to show my bias)...if Augie wins, then Wheaton wins and that one in a million chance comes true with North Park beating North Central (I already know this is a stupid scenario so don't post me that it is)...what would happen, playoff-wise, with the cciw?

Wheaty,

I think the Cards would still have the edge on you guys for an at-large spot based on the head-to-head. I think the best scenario for the Thunder would be Augie losing both of their final two games :(  :'(  >:(. That would give Wheaton the head-to-head advantage over Augie with both at 5-2 in the CCIW (assuming Wheaton wins next week--which they should).

Mr. Ypsi

I think Dansand gave the scenario for what is probably Wheaton's only chance for a C, but I think it's pretty dicey for a 2-loss team to get in.  (Augie MIGHT get in if they lose to NCC, since both losses would be to play-off teams [or so I assume for Central], but Wheaton would have 'bad' losses.)

I can't believe the game in RI - 106 points??!!  Is this the same team that beat Carthage 7-0?

nccfan1:
To determine the conference champion it goes 1st by record in conference. If Augie wins next weekend they can end the season with only one loss which would be the same as NCC if they win there last game. So then they go to head-to-head matchup which would put Augie as the AQ because they beat NCC and their only conference loss would be to Wheaton who has 2 conference losses.  Which is why the Wheaton game is now irrelevant if Augie wins. NCC is virtually a lock for a playoff seed because I don't think they will lose to NP in the finale. The question is could Augie still make the playoffs with an 8-2 record if they happen to fall to NCC (but they would still have to beat a tough Wheaton team).

After watching the game today, it makes me wonder why the wheaties haven't been running the ball like that all year?  They looked damn good doing it.  I may be wrong but I think they only threw 9 times.  Wheaton will give Augie a good run for it last game of the year.

Hats off to you Wheaton folk they looked good today.

Go Redmen
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

i'll tell you what, i am going to stop trying to figure this conference out. today makes no sense to me.

wheaton runs for 350 yds v carthage
augie gives up 42 pts to elmhurst when wheaton held them to 7
elmhurst gives up 62 pts w the best dline in the conference
millikin gets virtually no where running v ncc who gave up 200+ yds a couple times this yr

a couple things are certain and augiedogie already highlighted them. NCC is a virtual lock as a playoff seed regardless of what happens in rock island as long as we can reasonably assume a victory v north park in the finale. augie's only way in is likely to beat ncc this week. lose and they are probably done, win and they lock up the AQ no matter what. wheaton is toast any way you look at it, they assured everyone of that last week in bloomington.

Usee, you say that augies defeat of Carthage & Millikin was more impressive than NCC defeating Wheaton & Carthage. How so?  Augie put up 7 points against Carthage and beat a very suspect Milikin.  While NCC tacked up big numbers against both Wheaton & Carthage.  You may call them "barnburners" but that is NCC's game, they score quickly and often.

ncc fan-augies wins are more impressive because they dominated on the road. ncc's wins were at home. defeating wheaton and carthage were great wins but the best teams win on the road. ncc gets to show us this week. as i mentioned, ncc's most impressive win to me is over at elmhurst when they were down 14-0 and came back on the road to win.

Irish,
Sorry I haven't got back to you. I made that postr and then left town for a seminar.
Gee, I would have never thought to look for him in a beer tent. Am sorry I missed him though.
Henry is really enjoying coaching, although he would like to see the team repeating last years success. This is what he wants to do with his life, be a coach. We all should be so lucky to have a job we really enjoy.
It wasn't pretty today as you can probably tell from the posts. Tell Jr I said Hi.

Washedup,  You said if I think NCC is going to blow out Augie I am being foolish.  I agree. I don't think I ever said anything like that.
I will say though that I believe that NCC is the best team in the CCIW but having to play at Augie certainly makes things more difficult. In fact I would give a slight edge to Augie. If the game was in Naperville I would give a big edge to NCC.  They are virtually unbeatable at home.  I continue to be amazed with the duo of Kniss and Spencer.  When points are needed they seem to effortlessly come up with a TD.  I have seen a lot of football at all levels, and they seem to possess some sort of magic.   By the way, both TD's by Milikin were after offensive turnovers (fumble & interception).  Also the starting secondary was in when both TD's occured.  The backups gave up no points.  Lastly, I think that someone said that Wheaton was out of the playoffs.  I don't think that is true.  What if Augie loses to both NCC and Wheaton (a possibility), don't you think that an 8-2 Wheaton might get a spot?

usee

no, i don't think an 8-2 wheaton will get a spot. currently there are more 1 loss pool C candidates than there are spots for them. that could change but the chances the wheel stops on wheaton are insignificant. they lost to IWU, that is going to kill them. had they won, we would be in the midst of some very interesting possibilities but that isn't worth discussing because they couldn't beat the weenies in bloomington.

all the home teams  (with winning records)won today by the way.
