And we care because????  Perhaps you should apply for a coaching position at NCC since you know how to stop the option so well....it's easier said than done chief

Ric

usee -- wow I appreciate the kind comments.  Thank you!

I think it's a shame that what sounds like a great game today in Rock Island is being tainted by all the bulls**t going back and forth in these postings.  I would much rather focus on the fact that the CCIW will have two quality teams going to the playoffs this year as opposed to who has class and who doesn't.  Augie fans, be happy that we won and quit complaining about NCC fans and players.  As for some NCC fans (augiesucks), you aren't helping the perception of some NCC fans being "classless" by posting under this name.   Both teams have had a great season so far and I hope they can both win next week to go into the playoffs on a high note.  For me, I can't count this season as a success (or at least not as much of one) unless we can finally be Wheaton for the first time under Coach Barnes.  GO AUGIE.

Oh, come on, it will be a good season even if you be Augie!  ;) ;D

Congrats to Augie. However, I would like to add that if Augie loses to Wheaton Augie and North Central would be co-champs (via carthage & wheaton). Now I know that Augie would be the conf. rep. My questions is if Wheaton wins, would North Central have a higher seed in the playoffs b/c they would be 9-1 (if they beat NP) and Auggie would be 8-2

Shepherd,

Your theory sounds great if you don't have some large, quick and athletic offensive lineman driving you 4 yards off the ball every play.  We have been running the wing-t at Augie for 25+ years and have played against some excellent coaches throughout the CCIW and the country.  I would be willing to bet none of these coaches will tell you stopping Augie on offense is easily done.  Your description of stopping Augie's O centered around one play, the option, which certainly was not our "bread and butter" play when we were winning national championships in the 80's.  We relied on a few basic plays, but utilized everyone in the backfield, so there was no keying on one player.  During my time at Augie and in the many years since, I have seen a lot of defensive schemes tried with very little success.  The scheme that you describe would fall in the category of "read, flow and react".  I can remember facing several teams that tried this when I played.  Two of the teams, Ithaca and Salisbury State, tried it in the 85 and 86 Stagg Bowls, respectively.  Our offense rolled to 300+ yds rushing and 40+ minutes in TOP in 20-7 and 31-3 victories.

In theory, if everyone does there assignment every play, you can stop an offense, no matter how good.  In reality, the bigger, faster, stronger more talented team wins, no matter how well the other team plays there assignments.

What the hell is going on with this board right now?  Who are these idiots posting on here right now?

First, Cardinal 20.....grow up.  You announce games, people don't care for your play calling...deal with it, it comes with the territory.  Your as much fair game on this board as the players.

Augievike,   Did it ever occur to you the cardinal fans were booing because of the offsides call and the fact that the game ended like it did?  Do you honestly believe that Augie fans wouldn't have done the same?  Second if your going to preach about class...don't you think you should take the high road with these morons posting on this site and not tell people to deal with the fact that Augie is #1.

Frankly, I think both Augie and NCC fans are acting like idiots in their comments on this board.

Finally i just want to say BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  The way that game ended was like getting gut punched and left to gasp on the ground for air.  I wasn't at the game, I haven't seen the fieldgoal....but I would love to watch the tape to know if the penalty was legit.  If it wasn't, then shame on the referee.  If it was, then congrats to Augie...NCC didn't deserve to win.

Shame on the referees is right, not augie.  You catch breaks sometimes...thats how the games go.  Same with the World Series...the only people we can blame are the umps, not the teams.

Washdup,

Thank for returning some sanity to the board.  An awful lot of emotion flowing, beating of the chests, etc... Regardless of whether it was a late hit or not, or it was offsides or not, or the weather hurt this team or that... it sounds like NCC had their chances but made too many mistakes.  You can't do that against a team of the calibur of Augie (at Augie), and expect to win.  In the same way Wheaton couldn't expect to get away with the mistakes they made at NCC this year.  Too bad it had to end on a penalty re-kick, but nothing will change that now.  NCC needs to finish strong next week against NPU and prepare for their first playoff appearance.

Sound's like it was a hard fought, down to the wire game for the CCIW title - this is becoming the norm for the CCIW each year.  It is exciting football and I hope we get 2 teams into the playoffs and they represent the CCIW well.

If the ref makes the call then everyone has to deal with it...If it was a good call then great the ref did his job...if it was a bad call fine the ref still did his job...as my dad always says it builds character we will see what kind of character NCC has next weekend aginst north park.

BWA

and go NP

shepherd- as augie6 said, augustana runs the wing t, not the tbone offense. they are a power, 4 pt stance, come off the ball running team. the option is and always has been as small part of this. there are various ways to defend the option as a play and you highlight one of them. whats good about your way is it slow plays the quarterback, delaying his decision and allowing the rest of the defense to pursue the play. the problem is, augie usually runs a speed option and double teams the quarterback defender. this requires an athletic linebacker because that is who ends up on qb responsibiity. this was higlighted in last years wheaton/augie game because their qb ran for a million yds as a better athlete than the wheaton lbs.

as for the "west coast offense" it depends on how you define it. the only team that runs a version of it to my knowledge is carthage but thats it.

Many things to respond to here.

First off, he did lie. He stated that he didn't say one thing when he did. That is in fact a lie.

Second, I was at the game obviously, and I saw what I saw. The late hit was very questionable, as was the offsides. Is it going to be overblown? Yes. I agree NCC had their chances and basically they can only blame themselves, but don't dance around the fact that they were blown calls.

Third, who are you washdupcard? You know who I am. Who are you? I didn't post anything negative towards anybody until someone said the announcers weren't any good for no reason at all. That's the problem with this site. There are a lot of "washdup" fill in the blank and they think they are all experts. Pick up a mic and then come talk to me.

This has nothing to do with growing up as you put it. It has to do with respect and frankly you don't have mine when you criticize and don't give any explanations. GO CARDS!!
