bholmgren, I have to agree with Augie6 about the Wing-T. I know the one fan that was really complaining about the Wing-T and he was only upset about it because it is hard to come from behind in it. The thing about it is when the offesne is run right with the right talent it is deadly. I think that it would have to change if, and only if, Augie starts falling behind in a lot of games, but until that happens I am quite content, and have been for some time watching Augie grind away at the clock and the opponent.

Augie6:

The defense was my biggest concern also. They were the reason Augie was picked 4th in conference this year only because nobody knew if they could compliment our dynamic offense. Well this Augie fan sure is glad that it did.

GO VIKES!!! Lets get that win against Wheaton.

By the way Cardinaldad,

If the penalty has a direct impact on the game, then the penalty should be called, championship game or not.

cardinaldad

Agreed... if it indeed was a penalty and the offsides player blocked the kick.

dansand

cardinaldad,

First of all, let me say, as an Augie fan I know the frustration of losing big games late in the season on the last play. Like I said earlier, I wasn't at the game, so I obviously didn't see the offside call, but you can't really be suggesting that just because a play is going to decide a game the officials can't make any calls, even if they're correct. Offside is a much less subjective call than, say, holding. If the official sees the violation, he's got to call it. What if the defensive hurdles the line before the snap to block the kick? I saw it happen in a 1987 game against Carroll--it wasn't called and normally stoic Bob Reade went berserk (It wasn't on a game-ending play). I know that's not what happened in this case, but the official doesn't know that when he sees the violation. He can't wait to see the outcome of a play and then decide whether to throw the flag.

b_holmgren,
I wasn't posting last year, but I've followed the board for a long
time and I think most people suggesting changing the offense were fans of other CCIW teams. Why scrap an offense that produced over 350 rushing yards and 32 points a game (last year's numbers)? I think most anti-wing-T people just don't like it because they think it's boring or not aesthetically pleasing. I definitely wish they had a better passing game, but I've been saying that for 25 years or more and I certainly don't want them to scrap the wing-T. An interesting side note: The Division III record for fewest pass attempts per game in a season is 4.0 per game by UW-River Falls in 1988. Augie has attempted 23 passes in 9 games this year. Unless they really open it up against Wheaton and in the playoffs, they're a cinch to break it (for whatever it's worth).

HughJass

Well we'll wait for someone to tell us for sure that sees the film if the kick was blocked by the player that was called offsides.  From what I hear, it was.

mugsy- i think bill walsh outdates even JR. so to say JR's offense was formed prior to west coast offense even being a concept is not accurate.

Alright already... I'm wrong.  The point I was trying to make, horrifically unsuccessful, is that before the "west coast" offense was popular to the point where everyone was using it... JR already had ideas of what he wanted to do.  He didn't adopt the west coast offense, although I'm sure he borrowed a few plays here and there.  Symantics...  It is pointless to argue symantics and tiny details with Usee... I give up.

Game film will only determine the truth of the play and not change the outcome... whatever it shows. We can only hope to meet again under better conditions and less controversial officiating that marred a great football game.

Red Reign

shepherd- I would like to remind you, you are on a D3/CCIW message bored. So quit knocking D3 football, the players the coaches, ect. Most of us are "teaming up" on you b/c you are knocking a divison, a leauge that all of us enjoy talking about in a positive way. So just quit talking about Mt. Carmel, Bloom,  world champion wrestlers, how you are an expert in football, religion b/c I'm gonna be completly honest with you NOBODY CARES. We care about topics that are relevent to present CCIW action.

With Augie's great football tradition, are they proud to have won that way? Just asking.

Brick

Amen shark Amen

To answer Cardinaldad....YES  a win is a win no matter how you look at it...so I would say i really don't care how we won just as long as we won

cciw fan

i was at the np/wheaton game and i think that np has talented players,  the qb haehn was a strong arm, but makes poor reads at times. Sherman Gant is the real deal at wr. he could start at any other cciw program, but there offensive and defensive line play has to improve. With the new field that should help recruiting wise.

CCIWfan1

This weeks top 25 rankings are on the board. Augie 11th, North Central 15th.
Great college football game yesterday in Rock Island. Both teams had a lot of heart and it's tough for either team to lose, whether on a controversial call or not. Bottom line is Augie won and now both teams need to focus on next weeks game to go into the playoffs with momentum.

Cardinaldad:

What type of question is that? Are they proud that they blocked a fg which is part of the win? YES! Are they proud they blocked a punt that lead to 7 pts before the end of the half? YES! Are the proud that they held Kniss, Spencer, and the high flying Cardinal offense to 17 pts and not a passing td? YES! A win is a win no matter how you look at it.  So to answer your question YES Augie is proud to win the football game yesterday.  It was a great game that will be remembered for a long time in the CCIW. The Cardinals have come along way in the past couple of years.  For this year's senior class NCC lost 3 out of the 4 games with one of them a 65-0 beating.  They handed Augie their lunch last year. It looks like NCC is going to stay at the top of the conference which will make the CCIW that much stronger and hopefully the CCIW will continue to gain respect so we can get 2 teams into the playoffs every year.

cardinaldad,

After what happened to us the last 2 years I am sure the answer is yes. A win is a win, a title is a title.

shepard,

I will say that you are not the only one who called Augie by the wrong nickname, many others float the doulbe g Auggie and other various forms and I have been upset at it myself. Not at the people themselves but just at the fact that our name is Augustana with one G and our nickname is Augie with one G. No one else here messes up any other names except Augie. I just wish that after seeing Augie posters themselves only put one G and making sure there is an E at the end others would do the same thing. But hey this is post board and people will have opinions, the thing is not to let people get to you too much. We all get our knocks on the board for making comments that are not agreeable with everyone, just shrug it off. I do have to say though making comments in general about D3football is not going to get you any supporters around here since we are all fans of it. We know the talent isn't the best, but it is still good football and that is what matters

dansand:

It is nice that we have had that few of passes. It means 1) we have held the lead most of the time or have been close 2) it means that we have a great running game and 3) it means that we have gotten to play our game for the whole season, not letting the other team get us out of our mold. As a personal opinion I would be glad if our team was able to hold that record.

I"m going to hold you to your guarantee.

I think you can hold me to my guarentee. It was a great game, and the whole time I was sitting there all I could remember was '03 and '04 Wheaton games which were just like yesterdays game. Somebody had to win and somebody had to lose, and it was nice to see Augie finally was on the winning end for once.
