I think it's a little too early to see how IWU will be next year.  I couldn't find their 2005 roster on their homepage, but going off the 2004 roster they will have 29 Seniors on the team (not sure how many starters), but they are losing their qb.  I don't see them finishing in the top of the conference considering the strength of Augie, CC, NCC, and Wheaton on a continual bases.  After IWUy went 9-1 in 2000,  they have continued to slide each year.

pat-i am interested why you highlight wheatons non conference opponents? their qow index is same as JCU and better than ONU. only capital is better of the oac 2 loss teams. they lost to a 1-5 team in conference, that is why they don't deserve to go in my opinion, not because of their non conference sched (although greenville should never appear on their schedule again)

The reactions on this site to the outcome of the Augie/NCC game were pretty ridiculous.  I thought (or at least hoped) we had moved past it.  Now you guys want to rehash who had a drink on the field, who's a poor sport or to go back and forth about who could beat who over 10 games?  Who cares.  Augie won, period.  Whether NCC didn't play well (which if they didn't there's usually a reason, it's called the other team), Augie got some breaks from the refs, or whatever the reason, the final score was Augie 20 - NCC 17.  At this point, Augie fans should be focused on Wheaton and NCC on NP.  What's important now for both teams is taking care of business this weekend and going into the playoffs on a high note.  If, by some chance, Augie and NCC meet in the playoffs, you guys can start going back and forth about who has class, who would win 7/10 games, etc.  Until then, let's give it a rest.

Thank you Augie6!!  Time to move on and take care of North Park and clinch a playoff berth.  That is all that we should be talking about at this point.  To speculate on woulda, coulda, shoulda is ridiculous at this point, although I will say a nice shot of Jager always goes down pretty well in the cold!  :D

Mugsy-please don't be mad at me but actually the rb fumbled on the 2 and the qb (frey) threw a pick around the 20  for the other turnover in the 86 game.  ::)

you also didn't mention the call when wheaton completed a bootleg pass out to midfield (from their own 15) for a 1st down w 2 minutes left and were called for "chop blocking to the play side" by a local high school official. that was a high school rule back then, not a college rule. wheaton had to take a safety and augie's final drive started around midfield in a 16-14 loss by the team formerly known as crusaders

I won't be mad at you if you won't be mad at me...  :P Final score was Augie 18 - Wheaton 17

who is this redbus you speak of? i'm interested in hearing the background. sounds like an interesting summer.

Well my very mentioning of him is probably why my karma took a 2 point drop.  He was just a gung-ho Redmen (Red Men) recent grad. who was full of strong opinion, backed by little substance and colorful language.  He was the opposite of the Carthage faithful who post here regularly - I say that based on his postings because I don't know the man personally.  Eventually when the CCIW posters called him on some of his rants, he went on a ballistic tirade and was subsequently booted within a week.

While I realize how successful the Thunder has been over the past few years against Augie....but I just do not see any way Wheaton will give Vikings a run in the final game of the season.  Anyone out there in Thunderville, give me a scenario where the Thundering Crusaders could win this one.

cciw:
Wheaton ran the ball for over 350 yards and had 450 total against a strong Carthage team that gives up just over 200 yards a game. Wheaton also has a 26 game winning streak at home which makes it tough for Augie to go in there and win.  Wheaton has an excellent coach as well. It should be another great game and hopefully Augie will win so they could have a shot of hosting 2 playoff games instead of having to travel in the 2nd round.

Pat:
If Augie wins on Saturday will they receive a #2 seed, or will they be at 3 behind Mt. Union if Walbash wins on Saturday?

usee, I think that you have brought up something that we may be discussing again should Wheaton defeat Augie.  That same reasoning is why the Wheaton men's soccer team got a Pool C berth today.

mugsy-nicely done. i stand corrected. ;D

cciw-one possible scenario for the thunder winning has them scoring more points than augie.  :D

I have held my comments because what I saw on saturday was the worst example of refs slanting the game towards one team that I have ever seen.  I have watched hundreds of games and this one was by far the most unacceptable.  I walked away from the NCC/Augie game thinking something must be done. This cannot stand. I want to make it clear that I in no way blame the players because they just come to play.  Every call in that game was to benifit Augie. All refs were from Rock Island or thereabouts. Yet I am still in a quandry to explain why they were so unfair to NCC. One would think that regardless of where you live you can still be fair in how you referee a football game.  Not so on saturday, the officials played a larger part in determining the game than the players themselves.  I wont even get into the particulars of the game because the proof is there. It is on tape and will be shown.
This issue is not over.  I know that the "classy" Augie fans will jump to respond to this post(by the way, a large contingent of augie fans that were at the scoreboard end of the field were chanting "overrated" after the "extra" field goal attempt) because they may really believe they have more class than the rest of us (can't explain why) but the fact remains that you had home field advantage, home ref advantage(this is so sad but true) and the weather. And if you don't think the bad weather favored your type of play, well then you better cut down on your doobie consumption.  Anyway the evidence is there, You have not heard the last of this and that is all I can say. Again I know you may not like it but please do yourself a favor and don't tear into the topic until this travesty plays itself out. Flat out, the game was stolen.

From a completely unbiased perspective...you sound absolutely bitter and what you wrote makes you look like an over emotional fan.  In my emotional anger I have blamed many games that I played in and lost on the refs but when it comes right down to it my teammates and I should have never put ourselves in a position to lose.  Hey good teams playing eachother are going to produce close scores but what about the interceptions, how about the special teams blunders.  Kinda stupid to suggest that the refs actually live in Rock Island.  Bad calls are part of the game...people screw up, just like NCC when they couldn't put the freaking ball in the endzone on first and goal and then they gave the ball up, that being said, to suggest that refs have some sort of motive or bias in a d3 game (and I'm not knocking d3 football, I played in it) but save the conspiracy theory at the NFL and DI level where it would actually make some sort of monetary or national viewing difference.  Everything else just sounds like a losers excuse.  I garauntee the NCC players have forgotten it, they are busy getting ready for North Park and the playoffs...you should focus on that.

All refs were from Rock Island or thereabouts.

Just to set the record straight, Saturday's officials were from southern Iowa (Burlington/Mt. Pleasant area). I guess that qualifies as "thereabouts."
