nccfan1, brassbell,

Does the game tape show a second kicker on the grassy knoll?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

This was hilarious!!  If I could give good karma, I would here!   :D

Ok people it's now time for your vocabulary word for the day.

Schadenfreude \SHAHD-n-froy-duh\, noun:
A malicious satisfaction in the misfortunes of others. It is a German word that means that little pleasure you get at someone else's misfortune.

When I first heard of this unique word I was unsure about true meaning. That was until I read some of the recent posts by "nccfan1". Now I must regrettably admit that I now know exactly what it means.

Is that like when your old college roommate got really drunk and hooked up with an ugly girl and you are making fun of him the next day?  :D

Welcome aboard, Gothunder - that Shepherd could be a bit of a jerk! ;)

[Gothunder is a toughie - my brain read got-hunder, and goth-under, before the actual meaning registered!)

To help you to a fresh start, I'll lift your karma a bit. :)

wheaty

Go thunder...how did they look in practice?  We they clicking like they should? How was the energy level?  Did you hear Swider yell at my brother at all...Scott Ast?  I will be there with you this weekend rooting on the Thunder.  Lets roll fellas!

wheaty

I meant "were they".  Everyone on this board has me a little grammatically nervous.

Go Thunder:
I don't think Wheaton wants it to be a defensive struggle.  With Augie's abilitity to hold onto the ball and grind it out, I think Wheaton would want to try to put points up early to force Augie to have to score. Augie has played in some tough close games this year (on the road against Carthage, and this past weekend). Also, over the past 6 years, there hasn't been an Augie Wheaton game with under 50 pts scored combined, and even with an improved Wheaton D, I think neither team will be able to shut down one another unless the weather plays a factor.

augiedogie

Does anybody know why Augie's regional record is 7-1 when their only loss of the season came to a team in the West Region? If they beat Wheaton would that move them into a 2nd seed in front of Mt. Union because they wouldn't have a regional loss while Mt. Union would have a regional/conference loss?

I think Central is within 200 miles, and therefore in-region.

Brick

How is Augie vs. Wheaton not on the front page poll for great rivalry games?

BWA

usee

ypsi-nope. distance has nothing to do with it. they split it up by region so central is in the west. i remember when carrol was in the CCIW they were in the west region and when they beat augie one year and were about to go to the playoffs it was as a west team. augie should be 8-1, 7-0. their record on the qow page is listed wrong.

Mr. Ypsi

You're fogetting about the 2oo-mile rule - if games are within 200 miles (regardless of regional affiliations) they are in region.

That's true at least in bball; I assume it applies to fball as well.

usee

interesting. i hadn't heard that rule. if thats true thats a big deal for augie. does the "in region" game count toward nccaa selection? if so, augie will get a lower seed because of this. at this point i think it will be tough for ncc to get a home game in the first round. in fact, they may have to travel to alliance in round 1 to play mt union. not a good place for your inaugural visit to the postseason.

I like augie getting at least 1 home game in the postseason. perhaps v albion in round 1. if they lose to wheaton saturday it could result in ncc getting a home game and augie having to travel to alliance in round 1.

interesting. i hadn't heard that rule.

You haven't? This is the second year of it!

I wasn't aware Augustana/Wheaton was a big rivalry game AUGIE2000. What's the trophy?

Pat:
Augie vs Wheaton play for the most important trophy the CCIW trohphy. They are a big rivalry that can be compared to Michigan vs Ohio St. because Augie and Wheaton have combined for almost half of the CCIW championships (33 out of70 total and 12 out of the last 20 if you count co champs).  IWU  has only 1 less championship than Wheaton, but over the past 10 years the rivalry has shifted from Augie vs IWU to Augie vs Wheaton.
